    Ration can survive in combat zones during the sub-zero temperatures of a Russian winter, being dropped out of a plane, but still not tough enough to be handled by the USPS.

    For some reason it is so entertaining and heart warming to see an American enjoying our Russian-made food. When you suddenly said "тушенка", I squealed with happiness. So, I say hello to you from Moscow! Good job, dude, keep it going.

      Art Polygraph honestly if we could get rid of the political bs an American/ Russian alliance would be unstoppable! Lol
      Don’t believe media, America in general doesn’t hate Russia or really anyone.. we are everyone and every country. Every country has good and bad people, we are no exception.

      I agree. The way Steve presents seems very organized and when there is a lot of food packages, like a 24 hr ration, he breaks them up into separate meals so that it's not overwhelming.

    • @trippychick92
      @trippychick92 5 років тому +4

      Steve1989 is my all time fav ration reveiwer! I was thinking to myself the same thing. He should have broken these up into meals breakfast, lunch, then dinner not all of them together. You just waste it this way there's no way he eats all of that in one sitting

    That “Apple drink” is turning into jello is most likely because it is what is called in Russian “Kee-sel” (Кисель), it’s a drink/dessert that’s made to be very high in starch content which gives it more calories and makes it into a jello like substance. It is not true jello however since it’s main base is not gelatin.

    • @Glotglot
      @Glotglot 6 років тому +3

      StopFear I was thinking the Apple drink might have fiber added since there are no fibrous vegetables in the kit.

    These Russian rations are really among the best for camping trips outdoor adventuring and the like. Being able to sit down to meals like these while you’re out enjoying nature is such a good experience. If you’re willing to spend the money german military rations are also up there on the list

    Here’s what I would do as a culinary tip.
    Mix the soup mix with the dried mashed potatoes, then add the beef tashonka(however it’s spelled) over the mashed potatoes, then drizzle the ketchup over the top. That would be a supreme meal right there.
    I desperately want to try this ration, the food looks so good.

    Another great review, Nathan.
    A stunning amount of food that should feed someone for a couple of days in a normal climate.
    You’re right. That breakfast porridge does contain dried raspberries.
    The tefteli- forcemeat meatballs- look delicious and probably the best item in what is a pretty stunning box of food. The stewed beef and veggies probably runs a close second. That rice kasha is probably slightly lighter as a meal than the ones based on buckwheat or pearl barley.
    I tried to get a bit of a handle on that sauce sachet. All it says is “sauce” and the website of the manufacturer.
    If Russian meals aren’t cheap to get a hold of in the. U. S., they will be highway robbery to get one posted to Australia. Maybe if Ol’ mate Dropbear lives near me, we can club together and save on transportation charges. LOL.

    The winter rations that we had when I was stationed with the Marines is two winter rations in one. It is around 4 or 5 thousand calories combined. The reason being is you burn more calories in colder temperatures than you do in warmer temperatures.

    At 12:48 in Russia we call it "Tiftelki". Usually, when homemade, theese are little or bigger one Meatballs made of ground meat mixed with Rice, cooked in a kind of gravy. The portion after it: "Kascha" just means "mash", it`s not the name for a special dish. This one you have is usually called "Plof", when homemade, it`s cooked rice with grated carrots (some people make it without carrots) and pork or beef. The rice with the carrots is cooked untill it reaches a mushy consistency and then it gets fried together with the meat.

    Mashed potatoes would be nice but you typically need hot water to properly reconstitute freeze-dried mash potatoes, and the hotter the water the better. Nothing is worse than cold mashed potatoes but I don't think cold water would properly reconstitute dried mashed potato flakes.

    You commented on how much food is in that MRE but it's a 24 hour MRE which means there are 3 meals not one plus a snack or two. If you divided it up into traditional meals you might find that the food is adequate.

    OMG NOOOOOOOOO Not the apple butter getting punctured. yeah it is probably safe but the wastage of the apple butter. Wow that is a LOT of food. yup and a LOT of peas in that can. I really need to get one for myself at the end of the month so I can review it on my channel. Yes I prefer the buckwheat Kasha over the rice Kasha. That Kaviar looks like it is made with more tomato and carrot than eggplant. Oh the beef with gravy would be really good on the mashed potatoes. That ration looks fantastic and the food would last me several days. Thanks for the great review.

    Any of you long time ration watchers get the feeling these aren’t “military” rations anymore? Everything is commercial packaging nowadays. Rations are a trend and I’m positive these are being made to capitalize on that. I doubt these are the actual things

    • @nakedguyholdingakalashniko1872
      @nakedguyholdingakalashniko1872 6 років тому +4

      Andovarius Most of the things put into this ration are still supplied in "real" Russian military rations too. Not to mention that the main RU army MRE suppliers (Voentorg and Promoboronprodukt) sell their MREs in a commercial manner as well, using a lot of the same ingredients, as I mentioned.

      Russia is always covered in snow. There winters are longer then ares yes. But in the northern parts of Russia there warm season is like spring all season like. If you go more south it gets a little more warmer during the warm season. Not as hot temp wise but very humid from I hear the Bugs are horrible over there. Due to how humid it can get in there warm seasons.

      @@sinosuke12345 , "Russia is always covered in snow". Yeah? Come to Russia at summer time! To the Central or Western Russia. The 32-35 degrees of Celsius in St.Petersburg or Moscow at June/July/August is the _average_ temperature, including almost 'tropical' rains, like warm waterfalls in to your face! The South Russia temperatures rises up to 42-46 degrees Celsius at summer time. Russia is huge! It has Arctic regions and almost tropical regions, by the climate patterns...

      themanager1980 the hand warmers go into your glove or boot and can warm you for 20 to 30 minutes. Because they are meant to be next to your skin, they cannot get hot enough to heat any of the food.
