audibly gasped when I saw the title OH MAN I’ve pushed off looking into this story for years because I wanted to hear it from you guys, thank you for covering this
Everyone should check out the UA-cam video on Timothy by Andrew Van Der Vaart. He’s an MD/PHD in neurobiology and he does an amazing deep dive into the psychology of Timothy during his bear adventures and his childhood regression symptoms. So interesting! Thank you for this episode, it was great. Can’t wait to watch part 2!
Thank you for the deep dive on this subject. Timothy's addiction to this as a viable lifestyle career choice could lead you to believe that his most significant discoveries in the field were all self-reflection. That, in fact, his disregard for his own well being and that of his bears revealed the depth of his fever dream. A parade of friends that never were.
I gotta say it's an interesting approach to speak on someone's mindset and thought process who has passed away and has no direct relationship to you, but I am new to this podcast and while this is just my first reaction I will continue to listen and hopefully better understand why one might take it upon themself to describe what another man was thinking during their life who is dead and isn't a family member. The mind is a complex thing but again just a first impression and nothing but respect as I know plenty of research was done and it's not all speculation as Timothy did have a journal, I just thought that journal wouldn't be available to you and without it... anyways... peace and love!
Yes that is what I found myself thinking as I was watching this it at first was really good things and then it got a little less so and I’m like isn’t this guy dead like who cares if he is remembered for dieing protecting grizzly bears I mean if that’s what Timothy thought he was doing when he died then that’s true for him and he is dead so it’s all good
I just found your channel and the minute I heard you are a real bear biologist, I subscribed 👍 And now, a nerdy comment from one bear person to another 😅 Thank you for remembering 402, the sow that was killed in Brooks this year. The bear who killed her is kind of a grumpy grandpa, he's almost thirty. He lost his cache immediately after, though, to 32 Chunk, who then almost won FBW. If I remember correctly, the bear who probably killed Timothy and Amy also was an old bear, wasn't he... I guess we should get off their lawn 😬
The comments about the coroner made me think of the lectures I have gone to by a local forensic pathologist; he’s so funny and interesting but man the subject matter is so dark that you can’t help but feel a bit taken aback.
Oh I've been WAITING for this!! Great episode, can't wait to hear part 2! Also so stoked to hear you guys are going weekly in 2025. I'd love to hear you guys talk about the one and only bear fatality to occur in Denali National Park & Preserve in the future 😏. I'm a little biased since I work there as a bear tech, but I find the story fascinating. Happy Holidays🐻
Watch the movie. Grizzly Man. It's straight to the point without the filler. Already been chewed. Excellent documentary. Spectacular photography. Think I will watch it again and again and again. Shared by people who loved and questioned his sanity, as is necessary 😢
13 summers he spent among these bears. Incredibly tolerant bears. Of course he should have continued to keep bear spray. He was more brave than the rest of us! I'd have kept a 44 magnum strapped at all times. But that wasn't his style. It's so hard to figure him out.
I totally agree 36:05 you know what potentially could happen so you can’t go out of your way to put yourself in danger and then hurt the thing you knew was dangerous in the first place none made you go out there and harass the bears so Timothy was right
He thought he was protecting them so I would say he did die protecting them I mean it doesn’t even really matter he’s not around anymore so I don’t understand! I would hope we want him remembered for all the good he did right??
I totally agree 36:05 you know what potentially could happen so you can’t go out of your way to put yourself in danger and then hurt the thing you knew was dangerous in the first place none made you go out there and harass the bears so Timothy was right and yes an electric fence would be GREAT and that way he has his territory and they have theirs and if the bears go into his they get shocked and they won’t do that so yes great idea thank you so much do another great video
I don't know why this was sponsored on my UA-cam. But I watched Timothy Treadwell sense 2001 . When I was still in 1st grade . I'm 29 now and I feel like I could give a better podcast then this .

Omg the nonstop Beavis and Butthead chuckling...
Where can we see these photos?

The real question i have is where is Mike's sweater from?? Because that thing looks so comfortable and I need that
These guys are great - love the chemistry between them and that the others have got Wes to set them straight when they go a bit AWOL

Jeff is always speaking to my Swiftie heart haha
One fascinating character.
What’s the difference b/w Patreon & a “subscriber” (on the podcast channel)? In cost v benefits?
Jeff is my favorite!!!!
Frodo, Pippin, and Merry :)
"Sargeant Brown did a number two" lol
He thought he was protecting them so I would say he did die protecting them I mean it doesn’t even really matter he’s not around anymore so I don’t understand! I would hope we want him remembered for all the good he did right??
Think the Timothy Treadwell story is tragic and he has to be pitied!

How about instead of griz kid or griz man you do Sargent Griz Brown 😂
Do you think that the bears saw him as ill? Like, that human ain't right in the head?
Ole Timmy got exactly what he always wanted- To become 'One' with a bear.
Too bad about his GF however.
And the bear...
Fu. I had to shut down my phone to end this video.
Yes, where did the money go???

Bears population should be reduced and pushed far away from humans
