When the show creators said in an interview, "We are trying to make the novel that Tolkien never wrote." They weren’t lying. Tolkien would never write something this stupid.
Which is funny because pretty much everything Christopher Tolkien published was already “the novel that Tolkien never wrote” lol.
You don't have to be a Tolkien fan to loathe this series. But to BE a Tolkien fan....oh my god, this is Morgoth's revenge
It's enough to make you root for the orcs
I’m at a point right now where im not sure if I’ve either I’ve fallen into a deep spiral of conspiracies or if every piece of entertainment always has to be bombarded with woke ideologies. It’s always there in some shape or form. It’s not about telling a story anymore it’s about check boxes and marketing. Aka money grabbing. From anything to gaming to cinema to music it’s there. It’s gotta go because idk how much more i can handle before I’ll blow a gasket. I just want to relax i dont want all this crap getting in tbe way whamens strong we got it the first 100 times we can move on now!!
@@Ihavehadmanynames7779 no shit. So where's the native American elf, huh? Huh?? And if you include one, do you dress him in traditional garb and get vilified for the stereotype? Or not dress him like that and be accused of disrespecting their culture. You can't win.
I thought it was quite good, represented the books well. What parts were explicitly bad or wrong?
@@drobinson-uo7ic Not gonna lie, Adar was one of the most relatable characters. Why the orcs did collect slaves to dig those ditches OTOH... no idea.
"That's what the Rings of Power of Amazon is, the Rings are the number of zeros they wrote to Tolkien's estate to piss on it".
That's gotta be the most savage line I've ever heard, holy shit Alex. That's rage in a single sentence from a man that's seen one of his favorite IP's destroyed.
at least ASOIAF fans had 4 great seasons to watch. though those same fans had no idea that the HBO adaptation meant the book series will never be finished since the author is high off his farts and living life on easy mode with HBO money
If there was an Emmy for best line said in a UA-cam show he would at least be nominated for this
This is the most trope-filled movie/show I've seen in a long while. Of course all movies/shows use tropes but in Rings of Power, it seems every scene is set up to use an overused trope, whether it's the Miscommunication Trope, Death Fakeout Trope, Bait and Switch Trope, Mystery Box Trope, etc. That's why this show is so predictable, I recognize the trope immediately and watch it play out very slowly already knowing how the trope ends.
Nothing is destroyed. It's just a stupid tv show. If I see a release from a big corporation - I just know it's going to be a pile of garbage.

Too true
The most disappointing thing about this version of Galadriel is that she is written to always be right, and in doing so lacks any shred of humility. This Galadriel would not have hesitated to take the ring from Frodo. Why wouldn't she? Everything she does is right and no one knows better than she does.
Yes cause a good character and their development would be great if they were always right.
except when she went all ape on Adar...and whenever she flipped out at the Numenoreans. Pay attention.
Because is a female lead character, they have to make sure she’s always right, better than anyone else. Bad “female energy “ forcing female characters on people, to always be much better.. just like Rey from Star Wars.
@@no1guy825 - I mean, she only threatened to make Adar watch her commit Orc genocide….

"We have to hurry and make these rings, but slowly..."
It's cos they slowed everything down except the only part that NEEDED to be slowed. The fucking rings. But they sped right past that. The fuck?
Yeah I know what you mean right here. It's like there's no attentionspan, and at the same time a sort of time-is-SLOOOW sensation. Like if bored and you notice it's only been 5 minutes and you have 7 more hours of work to do.
Rando dude who turns out to be Sauron tells the greatest elven smith in middle earth: "Hey, you know you can mix two metals together?" Wow. Sheer genius. This is like me telling a world class chef about the wonders of mustard and ketchup on a hot dog.
Ketchup on a hot dog is disgusting.
Ketchup on a hot dog is amazing.
Ketchup doesnt belong on hotdogs....mustard, relish, onion, sauerkraut, chili, cheese..... those are the only acceptable condiments
It's more like me, some tard from the middle of nowhere, telling Tom Brady that you can wear cleats to get better traction on the field.
Like telling Gordon Ramsay how to cook an egg.
I gotta say props to Joe for learning to let Alex and OJ talk more while still keeping his own rants going. It’s a much better balance, so good on you, Joe

I disagree with Joe politically 100%. That being irrelevant and said, I'm surprised he hates it. It makes my heart happy and enjoy joe. Glad we got him

Joe changed from a Fanboy knowing practically nothing like Jon Snow about the Lore atleast in the Beginning to an absolute Hater. Can´t blame him though.

"The rings were the zero's that were paid to Tolkien's estate to piss on it." That was some legit poetry my friend!
I think I know where the writers got this entire show from. There was that one scene where Frodo offers the Ring to Galadriel and she’s all like, “In place of a Dark Lord, you would have a queen!” And the writers saw this, and they thought about it for a few seconds, and they decided they needed 1 billion dollars to make Sauron propose to Galadriel.
But she said no
@@Zangozz wait till season 4, it goes from "no" to a "maybe?"
@@joeytheghost4211 then end of season 6 and one last fuck u to us all they get married and that’s how the show ends
Not sure if you're joking, but you might be on to something. I rewatched the film and saw flashes (or attempts) of the new Galadriel. The passion and intensity when she is declaring her intentions for the ring seems to be the chords they were trying to strike with her characterization in the series. The problem is (aside from literally everything else) the actress was not capable of delivering such a performance. She was expressionless, looked constipated, stiff, and worst of all, boring.
They definitely playing fast and loose with the timeline. The "meteor men" did not arrive until a thousand years later. But the more I read the dumb AF statements put out by the show runners ...? It makes sense in a weird way. Peter Jackson was dragged 2 decades ago for making changes to accommodate film & time. The people who were not fans of that were labeled "Tolkienistas" 😄 I think our currently woke showrunners, literally won the pitch campaign (which, they *were* up against a ton of competition) because they sold the idea of RoP "not being for those fans" 😳 So? You decided to alienate your core fan base in the pursuit of being seen as the woke geniuses of this century? 🤔🤣
I'm not a hardcore Tolkien fan, but my kid and my dad are ...idc if you cast black actors as hobbits (but sorry they just REALLY cannot be elves. Why? Because they are literally derived from Norse mythology, lol). Someone please cast me (in all my paleness) as Viola Davis in Woman King and watch how fast the hypocrisy flows forth. 🤣🤣🤣 RoP tried to rip one minute out of a multi millennia saga and force feed their audience a bunch of fkng nonsense. My advice? Keep the comments turned off because clearly Amazon is in no mood for the truth. Easier just to call everyone racist 🤦♀️
I loved seeing Alex smirk when Joe would start screaming about an aspect of the show. At this point, Alex doesn't have the willpower or desire to complain about the show anymore, but he clearly appreciates that Joes still has the energy to do it.

I don't know why you expected character growth for Galadriel. She started perfect, where do you go from there?
I agree, its so garbage.
Shes an elf, ofcourse shes perfect. But heck, the one mistake she made (diplomacy with Numenor) got riffed by Alex, so no matter what it seems people were unsatisfied
@@TheBlueArmageddon stop the shill my guy
@@TheBlueArmageddon No, she wasn't perfect. Her "mistake" was not portrayed as any kind of weakness or flaw, nor did she suffer any consequence, learn anything, or grow from it in any way. Additionally, she was a bad leader, a bad diplomat, arrogant, unpleasant, poor at both tactics and tact...I could go on, but it's pointless to rage at or about a fictional character. But yeah, I'm pretty dissatisfied with everything about the character, as written.
And that's the problem. How could they possibly have made a good character when totally constrained by 2022 Hollywood rules, which have _NOTHING_ to do with Tolkein, LoTR or good writing?
For anyone wondering... The idea of the Elven Rings is that they would have the power to heal and preserve.
The one of Galadriel would have the power to literally stop time in an area, and that's why Lothlorien were she lived was always beautiful and didn't seem to age.
The one of Elrond would have the power to heal any wound, and that's why it could heal Frodo from the wound with the Morgul blade, although it couldn't totally cure a wound made with that kind of evil magic.
The third Ring was the fire ring, and supossedly should belong to an elve called Cirdan, the Shipwright, who lately would give it to Gandalf when he arrived to the Grey Havens. It had the power to fill the hearts of people with fire, making them do heroic things, wich Gandalf used several times during The War of the Ring for the defense against Sauron.
But Alex is right, the Elves wouldn't use their rings until after Sauron's defeat. The moment he created the One Ring and he put it on his finger, they sense it and knew what was happening, so they took them off and wouldn't use them until after he was defeated on the battle of the Last Alliance. If not... they would be controlled by it like it happened with the Nine rings of Men.
The writers admitted in one of their interviews that the only reason they got the job was because they were friends with JJ Abrams and he called Amazon on their behalf. Not surprising given how the story was written ameturish and full of mystery boxes.
Ah if that's true then no wonder

I liked Alex's comment from the last show, basically he said the writing on RoP was like blowing up the statue of David to make ten thousand little marble buttplugs. Any enjoyment you might get from your buttplug would be immediately nullified when you realised what had been destroyed to create it.
I showed that part to someone who was thinking about watching the show...
They immediately understood they can skip it
Lmao it still cracks me up how funny and accurate that description is
I liked when he said 'It's like watching an old friend of yours live on TV getting buttfucked while on fire.'
It does not match with the situation at all though. Nothing has been destroyed. All the books and lore still exist.
It would probably be more accurate to say someone less talented created a disfigured copy of the Statue and put it right next to the original.
Except not a single thing has been destroyed to create it. So his analogy makes zero sense. But since this is the comments section of youtube I suspect just brainless agreement with anything they say just because they are hating on something you want to hate on also.

It wasn't Saurons plan to run into Galadriel on the ocean. It was even worse writing than that. Saurons plan was to go somewhere away from it all and live in peace. Thats why he wanted to stay in Numenor and smith weapons. Thats why he was so reluctant to go with Galadriel to middle earth. Thats why he didn't want to beat up the Numenorians that were messing with him and why he told Galadriel "I have found peace here, for both of our sakes, let me keep it". Their Sauron plot was basically Sauron got betrayed by Adar so he was like, you know what, screw this, I don't want to be evil and control everything anymore, I just wanna go live a normal life as a normal person far away from middle earth. Even after Galadriel found out he's Sauron he still didn't want to be evil anymore, he just wanted to marry Galadriel and help everyone but Galadriel was like nah fuck that I hate you so now Sauron is like, oh yea well screw you too I will just go be evil again! 280m for the Jackson trilogy is the equivalent of about 480m today

Galandriel, Selebrimbor, Gal-gilahad
The Mystery Box Trope is a plague and it needs to die. If you want the audience to enjoy the plot, you have to let them follow the plot. Reveal the character's goal and show the step by step progress towards that goal. The problem is I didn't know they were gonna use the trenches to explode the volcano. So all those episodes they spent building the trenches, I wasn't following anything, because I didn't know what it was for and how it's connected to Adar's goal which I also didn't know what it was.
If you read the Appendices closer you can find passages where Tolkien describes elves having salon quality hair during battles.
Yeah, that's right. I remember in that entire chapter in the Silmarillion where he wrote about the battle of the salons in Valinor. Gandalf got pissed when the one that offered him discount wash and perms at the end of the month lost the battle to the one that invented the high fades for the Elves. It's no wonder Gandalf turned up in TLoTR's looking like a shaggy bastard with split ends.
I'm not trying to refute your statement but do you know what page to said appendices and is it from LOTR? Cause I am genuinely curious.
@@NUTLORD007 Appendice 3, about halfway down "Each Elven warrior was entrusted with a vial of dove, as per Galadriel's blessing. As word of this spread, Axe bodyspray was sent to every corner of the dwarven mines, with the creed "though we venture from our home, may we smell of rock and stone"
i just dont get how, with the massive budget they get writers with literally zero experience. 2 dont even have a fucking wikipedia article. you could easily have gotten someone who has experience, why?? you have the massive budget.
i dont say they always suck, but these new writers are always just massive wildcards. we have had some good stuff from unknown writers, but also some supreme garbage recently
just dont risk it, please.
Because good writers have ethics that would impede the stupid shit the produces insisted happen in the show.
My favorite part of this episode is when they asked galandria for her brothers knife to craft the rings. "We need only the purest gold and silver to make the rings" Lmao
In all of the Elven Kingdom with the best blacksmith in the second era history, does not have high quality gold or silver. Only Galadria's brother had nice jewelry in all of the kingdom 😂
Not to mention they just chuck the whole thing in, gems and all, and it miraculously separates into 3 distinct metals
@@Thornsworks hahaha omg I didn't think of that, that makes things even dumber 😂
Yeah, and then they have the EXACT perfect ratio to alloy with mithril, never mind the gems or the actual dagger being alloyed with other metals as well ebcause no way a weapon made from 100% pure valar gold and silver would be anything but useless.
I think it was said that they needed the dagger because it had material from Valinor. Which was better quality than anything they had on middle-earth. So to answer your question Yes she was the only elf at that exact time and place that had gold n silver from valinor. Not like there was open trade between the two. The Elves on middle-earth were exiles.
Yeah it was stupid, in the whole kingdom of Eregion not one elf had anything gold or silver from Valinor? Seriously? Its just laughable writing.
The producers of the show say that it is going to be 2 years before season 2 of Rings of Power gets released. Their stated reason for it taking so long is because of the extensive time taken to film the show and create special effects. I think the real reason is so that people can forget how bad the first season was.
I have been really into your reviews on shows and movies lately. I just wanted to say I appreciate that you give everything a fair shot no matter your thoughts going in. Secondly I really love the 3 different views. Someone who super loves the lore, someone in the middle and then someone who is just seeing the show based on it's merits with no bias. Love you guys!
At first I was afraid it wouldn't be faithful to the source material, until I saw Galadriel in Numenor speak in the local AAVE dialect while skateboarding and dunking a basketball.
That's when I knew the show was in good hands.
I didnt feel represented until this very moment.
Original Lord of the Rings budgets (adjusted for inflation): $170 million per movie
Rings of Power first season budget: $462 million
Very surprised Galadriel rejected Sauron alone at sea despite the ‘implication.’
Nice one 😅
That's kinda dark, dude.
she passed the test. implication of danger was no match
Amazon didn’t pay for the rights for the D.E.N.N.I.S. system, so they can only allude to it.
Are you going to hurt these women Dennis?
Galadriel the Cold rejects Halbrand the Chad, pushing him out of the closet so he becomes Sauron the Gay.
Tolkein's intended audience was more educated in history, art and literature than Amazon's. E.g. Tolkien's audience would have known that long hair for both men and women was in fashion at times in the Middle and Dark Ages, and so they would have accepted long haired elves as an element of a fanciful, medieval setting. Amazon's Arondir has short hair because modern soldiers have short hair, and modern audiences expect a soldier to look like a modern soldier. Amazon's absurd idea that the relationship between Galadriel and Sauron should be romantic is also pandering to the least literate members of a modern audience.
They have dumbed Tolkien down to the level of the semi-literate showrunners and writers, thinking they were dumbing it down to the level of an American general audience. People who have read Tolkien expect much more -- they expect him to be treated like Shakespeare. But Amazon wants a mass audience, so massive dumbing-down was entirely predictable.
Alex’s energy is peak “ I don’t know what to say you pay me to eat the same shit every week” 😂😂😂
The fact they showed the Balrog in the trailer and only showed a 10 second clip in the season is crazy
I'm not a book reader so I have no attachment to the source material, I just enjoy good shows. I really like the LOTR trilogy and read the hobbit in high school but that's about it. This was a complete slog to get through. The characters were either insufferable or boring. The story was meandering and lacked intrigue, the multiple plots were disjointed and the pacing felt like getting a root canal with no anesthesia, 3/10. Production value got all 3 points
After 8 hours of watching the Rings of Power, we have 3 rings. With no power.
53:40 The horror of realisation on Joe's face is pure gold 😆 🤣 😂
Even though what Joe said, "they" did to Sauron is in the book. Sauron trucks the elves into making the 3 rings. That's canon
I prefer Alex's reaction on 1:14:24 🤣
That's not canon. The elves made their own rings in secret once they began to suspect Annatar wasnt who he said he was. They made them without his knowledge and after they'd mastered the craft through creation of the 9 rings for men and the dwarven rings first.
Sauron was pissed when he discovered there were 3 more rings free from his intended corruption.
That's canon.
@@captbuckyohare5585
So the show doesn't really deviate from the source is my point. Joe said that Sauron made the elvish rings. You confirmed that he did not. Hence, Joe is an idiot.
Remember the premonition Elrond had in the first episode? The reason he sent Galadriel to Valinor is because if she stayed, she might empower those she wished to destroy. He was right. None of this would have happened if she just stayed on the boat.
"Do what you're GD told, Karen!!"
this is true and bad because it's based on the bad writing of this show. they are inventing storylines about major characters that depict them not just being different from tolkien, but the opposite of what they actually are. in the films aragorn was much more meek and reticent than the bold and confident character in the books, but he still did the things he was supposed to do and still had a good and noble character so the films do a good job of adapting the story that they felt audiences would like (its hard to like a confident character for some) but making one of the most noble, powerful , and beautiful creatures to ever exist in Middle Earth into one of the most corrupted elves to have ever existed invokes a cringe that makes it near impossible to enjoy the storytelling even if it were good, which it isn't.
What wouldn't have happened though? I guess the Numenorean army would be in better shape because she wouldn't have been there to convince them to help the Southlands, but Mordor would've been created anyway. Her leading them there was almost completely inconsequential to whatever Sauron was trying to do. Helping Sauron meet Celebrimbor also feels so incredibly irrelevant. He could've literally just written him a note saying "Don't forget to mix the ores!". I'm sure the literal "Dark Lord" would've found a less contrived way of getting that message to Celebrimbor.
None of this would have happened if the show writers were actual Tolkien fans. This isn't fan fiction, it's just fiction cause no fan would write such a colossal flop. It was an easy paycheck.
@@KC24987 Exactly right.
I thought all of the main rings were made by Sauron and Calibrembor? Then after Sauron made the one ring and betrayed Calibrembor then he made 3 rings for the elves?
Rings of Power is a show from Sauron's perspective, how everyone acted badly at him, and he just wanted love, but he was rejected. While LOTR trilogy shows the reality of the rest of the people how they see world, this show is about how Sauron sees it, and how he is the good guy who was bullied, so now he wants to revenge, because his feelings were touched, and this shows how good he is, and evil the rest are.
It would be great if this was intentional, but it just makes it look more sad when you put it like that 🤣what an epic fail. Couldn't make hobbits likeable and made their villain look more appealing than protagonist, it's just sad
There was actually good intentions in Sauron or rather Mairon at first. He wanted order and perfection but in his hubris he though he could achieve that but needed power which Morgoth promised. Let's just say that being the right hand man for the first Dark Lord wasn't without consequences.
He even considered surrendering after Morgoth lost but chose to hide instead and then tried to take over Middle Earth. He still was aiming for a "better world" but he'd been thoroughly corrupted.
Among the doodoo that this series is, I finally felt happy for a minute when the actor playing the Wizard started talking.
That actor has given his all to this role and he has a great voice which he could finally show!
But then they made him utter Gandalf's dialogue from Fellowship hinting that he is Gandalf and my smile vaporized instantly.

@@JahlisMan He's mad because Gandalf doesn't appear in Middle Earth until the third age. Amazon does NOT have the rights to the Silmirilian! They can ONLY use the Wizards that AREN'T in the Silmirilian, so it makes sense. I love how they're doing the story anyways.

How come no one is talking about the music in rings of power. It was so bad. No emotional or epic orchestra. The original Lotr, every sound was comparable for every scene. Every string of sound meant something for the scene.
Rings of Power is more focused on the SPECTACLE. House of the Dragon is more focused on the STORY. It's a family drama that just so happens to take place in Westeros, and just so happens to have dragons, which is the spectacle. The show doesn't rely on the spectacle as a crutch. And for some people spectacle is enough. And for others, they're more invested in the story.
Galadriel, one of the most intelligent and powerful elves in Tolkien Lore and made a strong female warrior in The Rings of Power, contribution before and after refusing to retire to the motherland of elves that was ordered by her king and best friend in her best interest because her return caused the sacred Elf tree to lose leafs by swimming through an entire ocean was:
-Instead of searching for her missing husband did an unsuccessful centuries long expedition to find Sauron forcing poor elf soldiers into terrible conditions and refusing to send them home until they revolt against her.
-Making the sacred Elf tree lose leafs after her return and when the elf king exiles her and she returns from the exile the tree continues to lose more leafs and therefore making the elf king want to leave Middle Earth.
-Convinced the Regent queen of Numenor, a country that doesn’t trust elves, to make an unsuccessful expedition to Middle earth where the Numenorians lost 4 ships, 200 men and the sight of the regent queen making the country even more elfphobic.
-Failed to stop the creation of Mordor by not killing and loosely bounding the boss of the orcs Adar and failing to notice that the decoy of Adar was a decoy that she could have easily discovered if she just opened the package or hold it long enough to notice that it is just a normal weapon and not an evil artifact so crucial to hide.
-Convinced Sauron, who was badly disguised as king of the south lands that is a title that doesn’t exist for 1000 years and Galadriel should know that, to return to middle earth and brought him to an elvish forge with the precious material of Mithrahil where he creates the idea of the rings of power.
-Forced the elves to forge the rings of power, that will be corrupted and used by Sauron to almost rule the entire middle earth if it wasn’t for his defeat at the hands of Isildur who almost died in one of Galadriel’s unsuccessful expeditions, because of the king wanting to leave the Middle Earth that was caused by her returning to middle earth and making the Elf tree lose leafs.
She is even a better Dark Lord then acutal Sauron
I'll also add that Halbrand didn't even try to be the King of the Southlands. Galadriel just assumed he was.

No other reviews capture my feelings on this show as well as this team. I'm where Alex is as far as background, but Joe captures my emotions more accurately.
The part when Galadriel turns to Colonel Trautman and yells "Nothing is over! Nothing! You just don't turn it off!" and then slings the M-60 over her shoulder, jumps off the ship and swims towards Middle-earth was a master class in writing.
Its crazy that they’ve spend a billion dollars trying to adapt the Second Age without having the rights to the Second Age or half the characters.
And twisting the lore and completely screwing up their own lore at that
Yep. It’s like they had a blank check to utterly destroy anything good Tolkien created? It’s insane
It's called narcissism. They never intended to respect Tolkiens work.

What you're feeling, Joe... That's what nearly all Witcher book fans feel about the Netflix adaptation times maybe a hundred. Our showrunner keeps promising that it'll be faithful to the source material, and (unlike Rings of Power) she has the rights to all the books and can therefore draw from them as necessary. But she constantly ruins characters, story arcs, and lore, and replaces them with her own fan fiction and fake woke agenda.
I refuse to even call this Netflix shit an adaption and I blatantly tell any fan boys of this carbage show they know shit about the Witcher saga if they find it even remotely good.
Gandalf also uses the full names of people when talking to them, just like the stranger did too. I thought it sounded very much like him. Looking like him also helps too. It won't shock me if that's a younger version or something.
The only thing that would have saved this series is if it would have been revealed at the end in the finale that Sauron was masquerading as Galadriel the whole time. Pretending to hunt for himself, while holding Galadriel prisoner and turning everyone against each other by starting wars, insurrections and anarchy. Then offers a solution with a forging of rings.
When the episode opens with Joe staring blankly with an angry face it’s gonna be a good one
