I absolutely love this particular performance. Lush, lush lush sounds --that song "Heaven" just gets me every time: words, sounds, voices, chords: makes me cry: universal release.
He's also the album producer. And he does backing vocals too. The last time they were at KEXP Michelle said that the two of them played all the instruments in the new album.
I've been kinda avoiding listening to this band for some time, because I felt like I knew exactly what it sounded like from their name. I was shocked to see that yes they sound just like I expected hahahaha. Good stuff tho.
not really sure if it's significant but although the cymbals became too harsh for me I still really enjoyed this and this is the vid I subscribed on :)
Good stuff. But once again KEXP tortures us gear heads. Sure, there's a tiny glimpse at 5:52, just the barest of teases, of her pedals. I'm really wondering how she gets that exact Strat sound. Is it really just a Tubescreamer, reverb and maybe a little chorus?
ARM_1 Really? So there's only one point, and that point happens to be yours? All snark aside, let's be clear here: I enjoyed the music for it's artistic merit and the emotions it invoked in me. I even said so upfront: "Good Stuff." But I also enjoyed it on an intellectual and technical level. The sound she was getting out of her Strat was really interesting and puzzling to me. I've been playing a similar instrument for (Counts on all his fingers, damn! Takes off his shoes... ) over two decades. I own a pretty big collection of guitar effect pedals, and have owned many more. And I've never gotten a sound like that out of my instrument. To hear something new out of what appears to be bog standard equipment is fascinating and inspiring. And I have to say it's also frustrating when I can't see how that sound was made. I don't think that KEXP should become a gear channel, nor do I think they should make special accommodation for my particular interest. But I will mention, hopefully in a light-hearted way, when they come >< this close to showing me what I need to satisfy my curiosity. Just the smallest of pans during the shot of her pedals would have done it...
They must have a studio kit setup threse guys and Porches used the same drumset just used thier own snare and cymbals nothing unusual seeing that they both played same morning. Just an observation lol
kind of. i don't know exactly what you mean by "genre", the word itself is controversial. anyway, i see Asobi Seksu as more into shoegaze roots, more about atmosphere and texture and weight (just hear dat big noise in "I'm Happy But You Don't Like Me" or "Red Sea"). Japanese Breakfest love guitars and effects too, but they stay inside the limits of just well crafted indie pop. I think Michelle writes deeper and better lyrics than Yuki too. though, I hear some of Asobi Seksu hooks in their sound.
real shame.....I was really enjoying this, but yeah the cymbals became a bit too much.......I do appreciate them trying cuz yeah I hate when you can't hear any cymbal at all
Jacob Reynolds Nah, Michelle doesn't speak with a rising intonation, so I dunno what this guy was talking about. It's like...people who speak like they're always asking a question. Michelle doesn't speak like that.
Dude im sorry but you guys need to work on your live sound production. Im always super excited to watch some of my favorite artists on KEXP and then im reminded of how shit the production is. You're doing your guests a serious disservice. Im sorry if that's harsh but you should put more resource and thought into the live sound, ESPECIALLY THE VOCALS!!! again, not to be harsh just please....fix it!!!!!
In Heaven: 0:23

Big up to Philly music scene!
"By weird I mean wonderful." One simply must love Cheryl.
KEXP I love your channel you only get the cool bands
Saw these folk open for Mitski a few months ago. Their drummer was mitski's drummer when I first saw mitski. Great group!!!!
Just discovered this band. great stuff
She's awesome, so many emotions radiating from her music.
Only recently discovered Japanese Breakfast. What an amazing voice.
You know what. I rarely hear female lead vocals with male back vocals. I like it.
joeXmaspunk I feel like that's the norm these days, but that might just be that most of my favourite current bands are female fronted
Yeah, It's good
Check out Wolf Alice then, particularly their Space and Time performance in KEXP
Rainer Maria!
A tip : watch series at Flixzone. I've been using it for watching all kinds of movies during the lockdown.
I absolutely love this particular performance. Lush, lush lush sounds --that song "Heaven" just gets me every time: words, sounds, voices, chords: makes me cry: universal release.
the woman that loves u has been a favorite since forever, yo, such a pretty song
Incredible! Psychopomp is one of my favorite albums this year, glad to see it sounds just as good live.
she's so good ♥♥♥
Beautiful! One of my favorite releases this year.
Even better live than in the recorded albuns
Psychopomp is a cool word, I encountered it myself reading about Aztec mythology. Other cool words? Ensorcelled, fantastical, hegemony.
I'm a big fan of "Insipid"
egregore
anomie
What got me into Japanese Breakfast was I noticed the anime samples in 'Everybody Wants to love You' from Ranma ½
fell in love with her, over again
She is like candies, magic and happy endings.
They are so cuuuuutieeeee
The woman that loves you tssssssss
she's fckin gorgeous
The bass player with this version of the band is also the drummer with ... a later version this band that played the same place a bit later! :D
He's also the album producer. And he does backing vocals too. The last time they were at KEXP Michelle said that the two of them played all the instruments in the new album.
@@areader2253 Yes. Saw that next session ... if anyone thinks this session is good, they'll be blown away by that next one!
Saw them recently in Vienna supporting Ezra Furman. Incredible show!
featuring david spade on keys
Dream pop never die; Coolest thing
5:02 He really know how to use pickguard to it finest
the drummer holy shit!!!!
Shes got a crazy forward tilt on her snare!
Check that out! O_O
It's to get a bigger crack from the snare! You just hit the rim and the batter at the same time it sounds rly nice 😊
Zoe Stiller
lol, no you can do that at any angle
Cool stuff, never heard of this band/artist before but I like what I hear.
Michelle 🙌🙌
I love her!
Digging those guitar leads on 'Heft'! Reminds me a bit of Waxahatchee's 2017 album
I've been kinda avoiding listening to this band for some time, because I felt like I knew exactly what it sounded like from their name. I was shocked to see that yes they sound just like I expected hahahaha. Good stuff tho.
oh my god, fucking brutal
im so proud to be a jb fan
OMG so good
really nice!
Sounds very early 80s british postpunk, great.
Tight drumming
I really like this
Legend🌠🌠🌠🌠
Theyre good live
not really sure if it's significant but although the cymbals became too harsh for me I still really enjoyed this and this is the vid I subscribed on :)
Definetly, this drummer sound much better with all. This line up is cool.
Damn, this is some good shit!
Love her voice. Sounds like Nena.
She never gave up her dream took years to make it
Good stuff. But once again KEXP tortures us gear heads. Sure, there's a tiny glimpse at 5:52, just the barest of teases, of her pedals. I'm really wondering how she gets that exact Strat sound. Is it really just a Tubescreamer, reverb and maybe a little chorus?
That couldn't be more "not-the-point".
I was wondering the same thing. It's a GREAT tone.

5:52 shows the other guitarist's pedals who is using a Telecaster. Her guitar is in the left channel which sounds pretty standard for a Strat to me.
guitar very low, a little bit of chorus and a shitload of reverb I would say
everybody wants to love you
spotted the nord electro 3, very nice keyboard
What makes the violin sound?
Nick!!!
They must have a studio kit setup threse guys and Porches used the same drumset just used thier own snare and cymbals nothing unusual seeing that they both played same morning. Just an observation lol
exquisite. rainbow slide massage gasm would also be a good name for this band in the opinion of this tumbling cookie.
oh she is married...
Heft ❤
So this is what Natto, seaweed and Miso soup sound like...
Crocodile was revived?
lllmao
Music isn't bad.
que VESG mais linda!!!
anyone know what kind of bass that is??
Erik yh I believe it's a fender jaguar something like that my friend it could be a fender precision bass type either of those in
sadowsky
Erik darude sandstorm
more like a yamaha bb series but pickup is different. idk maybe a custom order from some luthier
I can't believe everyone has got the answer so wrong. It's a cheap Japanese bass from the 70s and 80s, probably made by Teisco
2020 :3
ID on the bass?
silvertone/teisco 1490 i believe! saw one pop up on reverb the other day
is this same genre as asobi seksu?
kind of. i don't know exactly what you mean by "genre", the word itself is controversial.

hey man thanks for the reply, i got it. im a big fan of asobi seksu and i dont quite enjoy with this band
Man, is it me or all we can hear are those freaking cymbals ? BAD sound.
real shame.....I was really enjoying this, but yeah the cymbals became a bit too much.......I do appreciate them trying cuz yeah I hate when you can't hear any cymbal at all
Why, oh why do all the musicians that come on the show speak in uptalk?
What is uptalk?
People that speak in a rising intonation
+Korey D speaking with emotion
+Korey D emotion both vocally and facial expression
Jacob Reynolds Nah, Michelle doesn't speak with a rising intonation, so I dunno what this guy was talking about.
It's like...people who speak like they're always asking a question. Michelle doesn't speak like that.
4:12
down
Lol, that dude looks like Knox Harrington
ua-cam.com/video/KNT7wuqaykc/v-deo.html
하고 싶은 말이 뭐였나요?
Is that "Pat" on the drums. *refer to 90's SNL skit. I can't tell and I say this with all due respect.
Nah, that's Alex.
I prefer LBL but ok
bass player looks a little like benadict cumberbatch
