Don’t need to remove caliper from bracket or even remove the line or pads...just remove the two bolts that hold the bracket on, then remove the rubber line from the steel line and toss the entire set up into the box your r56S calipers came in and return for the core charge. You can also preload your r56S calipers with the pads while attatched to the bracket and just drop it over the rotor and tighten the bracket bolts down... Eliminates a few steps
FYI He is right that the "r53 caliper is [similar] to the r56 except the carrier". But truth is the r56 came with a larger diameter piston as well... so more stopping power. Some aftermarket r56 calipers have the smaller (same as r53) diameter caliper diameter. So if you want the true equivalent of the JCW spec on the "poor man" brake upgrade... make sure you get the larger diameter piston (I think it is ~47mm rather than like ~38mm... big difference buaat bolts up the same)
Put a short stick btw the seat front and the brake pedal, with pressure applied (holding the pedal at maybe 20-30% travel) it’ll keep fluid from running during line change.
the only thing I would do different is wait to cinch down the new brakeline until after the caliper is mounted, that way the hose wont twist. how much larger are the r56 rotors?
In the tool part of video, I did not see a sawsall or grinder anywhere? That's what it took to get my rotors off! Rust makes the rotor bolts impossible to get out.
Lots of inside wear on those front tires, camber off? I have a 2002 Mini Cooper S. Is the difference that noticable? I was thinking slotted and drilled R53 discs and ceramic pads for my next upgrade. ($150 for the parts.) Is this a better choice?
You can get reman sets from any auto parts store, their web sites. As well as RockAuto and other places...that’s your best route as used ones are...well. Used. And reman ones are basically new

Great tips! Love my R56 upgraded calipers. Just pulled them off to paint them RED.
Good tips on on of the stuff during the way!

Not enough fluid will run to go through the trouble honestly

Can you do a tutorial next on how to change a tire?
Why not remove the caliper and bracket as am assembly ?

All you needed was an impact driver, the correct bit, and some WD-40
The impact would have taken those bolts right out instantly
Nicely done
You only bleeded the front caliper? ... Thought once you undo a brake pipe, your supposed to bleed the whole system starting from the rear of the car.

I guess they would fit on a R50, too?
How about the rear brakes? Calipper, Carrier, brake line, Disc and pads, right?
What about the rear brakes?
Just wondering what lines did you use R53 or R56
For the upgrade on the front you will use R56S lines,. The rear isn’t changing so use R53 lines
ECS sells them separately as do others I’m sure
So, are the r56 lines mandatory?
Will this work for the 2005 mini S with either the 16" or 17" wheel or just the 17" wheel?
What type of brake calliper and disk size are these? Do you have a link to the supplier? UK?
OEM caliper which is made by TRV for BMW/Mini
294 “disk”
Which calipers work with 294mm brakes? All?
R56S
hey I'm wondering how can I upgrade to 5 lug in my r56?
Thanks for your video! May I know if there is a difference between R56s and R56 brake calipers?
Quick Cars hi i would ask i have r53 cooper s i can use it for my auto r56 jcw s calipers and disc it is fitted on my r53 cooper s? Thanks
@@Raiz35 I think those are bigger.. for anyone else stumbling across here.

Will this work for a R52 Mini Cooper Convertible? Upgrading to R56 Brakes?
+Quick Cars Awesome, thank you so much!!!
