For Beginners who aren't used to scaping with rocks. Try to decide on how to fix the rock formation in a box or cardboard outside the tank, take a picture so you know how it should be. And now place it inside the tank with the reference.
This video couldn't have come at a better time for me! I bought a 10gal tank too and want to make sure I'm making the right decisions for a good environment for plants and fish/shrimp.
Beautiful scape! Personally I think a nice colony of bright red cherry shrimp would be a perfect fit for it ❤ For livebearers, I’d say endlers, maybe endlers and cherry shrimp. Makes for a nice combo and some potential breeding! (One thing I feel the need to mention is that even smaller fish like neon tetras for example generally need plenty of space to move around and to be kept on large groups, so I personally like to keep/suggest only fish species that grow to an inch or less in size for a 10 gallon, with the exception of bettas of course)
Perfect. Simple, direct, and clear. Good job! Also, I think the forktail blue-eyed rainbow fish would be cool in there. I've never kept them but I'd like to.
🎉🎉❤❤ what a beautiful scenic and calm video .. loved it. I would love to see a groups of white cloud mountain minnows in this setup along with few corys . The reason of this selection is simply because white cloud minnows are hardy and will look stunning in this tank. They will not require heater as well.
Thank you for this timely video! I’ve got my 10 gallon tank, bought the same activ-flora substrate bag and am in prep mode to get the planted setup started soon. I’m always worried that I’m doing everything right so this precise step-by-step video was EXACTLY what I needed for confidence.
i just got some CPD after a year of looking for them lol. i ended up with 11 i think and they are amazing. they are still pretty young so not too much colors yet but you can see all the spots alreadY!!!
Wow! Looks so good. A nice school of chili rasboras And a dwarf school of cories, would go great together and look really awesome against the plants and rocks. 👍❤️👍
If you take the first section of this video. The exact same set of rocks.... You can set-up an island style hard scape, iwagumi, V shaped, triangle shaped, etc. It would be really cool for people to see all the different layouts and that you can do it with the same materials!
That's some good quality substrate more expensive nowadays I use the same stuff in my aquarium for live plants I have a 30 gallon with spider wood and rocks for my rare purple betta fish I found at Petco along with red cherry shrimp I have in my aquarium shrimp do an amazing job keeping the algae in control. For any beginner out there use real plants and decorations like rocks and wood I will always choose natural for my fish, I wouldn't use plastic plant decorations it can actually tear your fishes fins and can cause fish health issues for them and on the plus side using live plants for your aquarium it will look really nice once the plants fill in with new growth.
I would put a beautiful betta in here with a couple of snails, and maybe a small school of something that gets along with bettas. it’s a beautiful minimalist set up. I love it!
This video is almost ASMR-esque. I love it. ❤️ also good job showing how to set up the sponge filter. I'm a bit embarrassed to say it took me a minute to figure out how to add the air stone and set up my 1st sponge filter. 😊
I feel like some kind of platinum colored fish like halfbeak, rice fish, or guppies would look great if you put a lid on it. I feel like those pop way more than the colorful counter parts of those species specially if you put a black background on the tank. As a center piece fish either dragonscale or oapl betta or honey gourami. Bottom dweller pygmy corydoras is a must for this tank. kuhli loach and other smaller cory like tail spot corydoras, salt and pepper corydoras come in a close second.
The key thing not explained here is, where is the ammonia source to come from in order to feed the beneficial bacteria introduced from the Fritzzyme 7? The tank won't cycle without a food source(ammonia) for the beneficial bacteria. It won't come from fish as you stated to wait till cycle completes before adding fish.
This is very helpful for beginners! I was wondering, are you able to add substrate/decorations/plants to a tank that already has water in it, or only to a dry tank?
Cheap fish tank: 1. Used Tank from Facebook marketplace 2. Rocks from outside as decorations 3. Sponge filter (or cheap HOB filter) 4. Rosy red and/or feeder guppy (they’re the cheapest but get whichever fish that match your water parameters) 5. Ghost shrimp (other shrimp if you want too) 6. Medication for the fish
I have a 36 gal. bow-front planted tank with Amazon sword, El Niño fern, and a species of anubus fern so far. Hoping to add Cory cats, tiger barbs, and a German blue ram in the next two weeks, when the new tank has completed the cycle.
Great video. Where does the ammonia come from? Beautiful but then plopping that ugly sponge filter ruins it. What else could be used? A black background might help also.
Beautiful tank! I would choose a small livebearer, like endlers or maybe guppies, since I have angels in another tank to help with population control. These fish would do a good job of cleaning up food themselves, so I would only need a few copper shelled pink ramshorn snails as clean up crew.
Very cool video. I will take inspiration from this when rescaping my 7 gal tall betta tank with panda corys. Any ideas for some midwater fish for the tank?
Thank you very much for your useful information. I'm using a triangular cube, will it be a problem for reproduction? I have been looking for fish for a long time, but I did not get any fry. I mean pleco L201 and L333.
Is the time for the nitrogen cycle different for planted tanks vs non planted tanks? I have a 20l thats become overcrowded due to my fish spawning frequently. Ive purchased a 50 longform and plan on planting this time around. Any suggestions?
For that aquarium size, I'd get some chilli or mosquito rasboras, some otocinclus and lots of neocaridinas. I think they would look great with that aquascape!
Anyone have a preference for the brand of tank to start with? I know there are many but several I looked at have reviews saying they leak after a short time owning
I'd put shrimp in there, 1 cold water snail such as a mystery snail, and white cloud minnows. Or, if heating, white or striped wizard snails, shrimp, and endlers. Endlers are generally not going to harass snails if they grew up with them.
Tetras would be nice aquarium tank mates... and corydoras.. around five of them. In each breed. Like five ember tetras neon or cardinal harlequin.. in all around twenty or fiftheen of them. Plus five corydoras.
I’ve seen planted tanks with a LOT of large rocks used in the scape, and I wondered about the WEIGHT of these rocks on the GLASS bottom of the tank. Could these rocks eventually crack the glass? Do you put something under the tank?
I have a question, do we have to rinse through the fertilizer to "clean"? Bc I tried to put it straight from the bag, and very gently add water but the tank still black 😢😢 Second question is do you guys recommend and type of filter for 150 liters tank? My friend recommended Bio filter but it looks kinda ugly to me so I need sth effective, doesnt look too bulky and affordable
What drives me crazy is all the videos about setting up a new planted aquarium. Does that mean you can't transition an existing tank to a planted tank? I'm a big-time gardener & I've been fishkeeping for a long time. Recently, I've been trying some new things in my tanks & I would like to try my hand at a planted tank. I'm not sure if I will enjoy combining the 2. If I like it, then I may set up a tank as recommended in this video. In the meantime, can I try it out on an existing tank with easy low-maintenance plants?
Diatoms are usually a sign that you have high phosphate or silicate levels. You can control them using phosphate pads 😊 www.aquariumcoop.com/products/phosphate-media-pad
1. after how many days you put the fish in the tank ? or you need to test the nitrate first before putting ? 2. Does the water smell a lot with the plants inside ? because my tank empty right now and does not smell. But I heard it smell with plants ?
I’ve always wanted to have a planted tank, but I used black diamond blasting sand as my substrate and don’t want to get rid of that. Is there an easy way to transition to a planted tank with that substrate?
Yeah! Put a layer of sifted potting soil and powdered root tabs down then put your sand on top! Make sure the soil is damp and poke lots of holes in the sand to let air bubbles out after you put the sand on top!
You don't necessarily have to replace the substrate, but you would probably need Root Tabs to give root feeding plants enough fertilizer - the sand doesn't contain nutrients as is. ~Lizzie

Great idea, thank you 🥰

You can't go wrong with live plants :) ~Lizzie
As a newby I appreciate those little tid bits like finding out java fern doesn't like being planted in substrate !
Beautiful scape!

This video is serene. I dig it.
Platys for sure would look amazing here. And there's a lot of hiding spaces for new fry not just in the plants but the nooks in between the rocks too.
Wow! You make it looks so simple. Very good inspiration for my next project.
Lovely work 😊 micro sword is such an underrated carpeting plant.
Thank you, I totally agree! It's a great alternative to dwarf hairgrass, which can be tricky in low tech setups ~Lizzie
@@AquariumCoop yep! I regularly recommend it for folks who don’t have CO2 but still want a grassy carpet 😊
Nice that a 10 gallon does not require a heater. Thank you for teaching us simple single small tank owners. Looking forward to your updates
Depends on what you put in there. There’s no fish yet. 😉
If tropical fish are added it will absolutely need a heater.
Beautifully done.
Definitely got this video saved
Great video guys. Call me weird but the video itself was relaxing to watch and listen too. Thanks.
Very nice - Thank you Lizzie and AQ team💕👍
amazing scape!! You've given me some ideas on what to do for a 10 gallon I'm going to set up in a few months

I would get sand and cap it. And put some gravel under the aqua soil so there are more spaces for bacteria.
Looks nice. I love chili rasbora or CPD’s. I think a big school of either of these would look good.
i just got some CPD after a year of looking for them lol. i ended up with 11 i think and they are amazing. they are still pretty young so not too much colors yet but you can see all the spots alreadY!!!
A small group of chili rasbora would look nice in that set up. Great video!

Great video, Lizzie! I love it! Great skill and tutorial!👌
Two Pairs of Neon Tiger Barbs or Yellow Widow Tetras Nice Tank Setup ....👍👍
I would 100% put neon tertra's in here. It might seem a bit basic put the blue and red colours would make the tank pop! Love the video btw 😊
Scarlet endlers and blue dream shrimp.
Nice scape!!
Great video Lizzie!......More please!
Very nice result. I do wish Aquarium Coop made their filters in all black.

The tank won't cycle without a food source(ammonia) for the beneficial bacteria. It won't come from fish as you stated to wait till cycle completes before adding fish.
I was watching videos on the different types of substrates and i’m pretty sure that the one she uses already has ammonia and bacteria.
You can just put some fish food for ammonia .. pretty easy
Like others said, fish food or even plants shedding leaves naturally will produce small amounts of ammonia
@@Rick-xy4bt Put the fish in immediately and dose beneficial bacteria. Done deal.
Introduce some hardy fish like guppies. They will help cycling the tank
Would like to see some CPD’s. Great looking tank.

Love this video! I’d personally put a few Cory catfish, white clouds (or angelfish if it were a larger tank).
can we get more videos like these please :D
I love this❤
Wow really love this idea!❤
Chili rasbora, and a Betta. I love the CO-OP, expecting my plants this Saturday🤗 Love from Georgia 🥰
This was so helpful, I loved this. Can you guys do the next video of the process where you cycle and test this tank before adding fish.
Beautiful scape!
a few red wag platys and a mystery snail would be great for that tank.
Looks great
Thank you! I’m starting my first tank and I’m hung up on the substrate and plants. Might just copy this 😂😂😂
This looks awesome. Can a common goldfish survive in such planted aquarium with no external Oxygen Supply?
incredible video.
I have a 36 gal. bow-front planted tank with Amazon sword, El Niño fern, and a species of anubus fern so far. Hoping to add Cory cats, tiger barbs, and a German blue ram in the next two weeks, when the new tank has completed the cycle.
Chili rasboras would look wonderful!
Very nice work Lizzie! Beautiful setup and the plants really work well in this setup.
For a tank like this, do you have to use a gravel pump to clean the substrate? How do you clean the substrate?
Beautiful Tank!
Great video. Where does the ammonia come from?
Beautiful but then plopping that ugly sponge filter ruins it. What else could be used?
A black background might help also.

Hi! How long would it take till the tank is ready for the fish? Are there sign I look out for?
I love spongefilters.. but it's a real eyesore in a scaped aquarium.. 😳
Great video...really helpful. Getting ready to set up tank #2 ... o.o lol

Nice creative ideas of adding the plants and rock but im not satisfied with the filter cuz I like HOB filters
Can you use this substrate for cherry shrimp? I saw that on the bag it said it contains copper. Any advice?
Did you clean the substrate before using?
my all time favourite would look good in this tank: Ember tetra's
Good work
Is this sand or gravel and does it have nutrients in it? Looks great
@00:58 "activflora is great for a planted aquarium as it has nutrients..."

Beautiful centre island scape for some chili rasboras.
I think that Flame Tetras might be a good idea.

I'd put shrimp in there, 1 cold water snail such as a mystery snail, and white cloud minnows.

Is the led light a compulsory? And can I put my gold fish and koi in this type of tank
How do you know when the aquarium has been cycled?
I'm getting zero ammonia, nitrites and nitrates with the pH settling down at 6.6.
Where did you get all your rocks?
Great Scape, I would do a small school (10) ember tetras, and a albino bristle nose pleco! in face maybe i need to set up another tank LOL!
Leopard danios may look cool
I’ve seen planted tanks with a LOT of large rocks used in the scape, and I wondered about the WEIGHT of these rocks on the GLASS bottom of the tank. Could these rocks eventually crack the glass? Do you put something under the tank?
For me personally, when I used a few heavy rocks and lots of heavy substrate, I found aquarium bottom egg trays on Amazon and put them down first.
Where do you get the rocks?
Where did you get the Active Flora and what plants are safe for fish because I am planing to make my tank as natural as possible
I have a question, do we have to rinse through the fertilizer to "clean"? Bc I tried to put it straight from the bag, and very gently add water but the tank still black 😢😢

I just posted a video of my new aquarium. What kind of fish should I add?
guppies! 'cause I'm a sucker for livebearers
You can't. NO heater.
@@hkk3656 that depends on the temperature you keep the room at, and adding a heater isn't a difficult thing even if the room is too cold.
