I thought it was great the way they let the locals touch the Canon and take photos, RIP to all the Spanish sailors. The English didn't give any sailors quarter and Irish were also killed if they were hiding the Spanish.
There is no simple answer to a complicated question. The plan imposed by Felipe II on his captains was very difficult to carry out in the 16th century. We just have to look at the enormous work that went into getting through the English Channel on D-Day and the amount of trouble they had to deal with the bad weather 400 years later with all the technological advances in their favor and without having any German fleet behind. You just have to see what happened to an English fleet larger than the Spanish the following year 1589, which tried to do the same against Spain. It ended even worse.
