So I stayed down right, crawled and grabbed my nigga's ankle and he kicked me thinking it was someone else. I looked up and he said "nigga what happened?" I screamed "Amil!!!" He said "where?" I said "by freeway and them." He looks and now she's pointing at him so now he drops to the floor with me. I remember hearing "There goes the God right there" and seeing MC Serch walking through with all his chains swinging and his hands all over this young sista's ass. At that point the DJ obviously heard the buzz of him being in the building and dropped live at the BBQ. Place went mad.
My brother and I lived up in NJ in mid 80’s. A buddy of ours who was a photographer and got passes for a group of us. This was either 86 or 87. Still had to wait to be picked to go in. Funny thing while we were waiting this guy was being chased by a Taxi cab driver who tackled him literally at the Tunnel door entrance and started hitting him in the head with a little bar or something. The outdoor bouncers broke it up and the Taxi driver said the guy broke his window and demanded the police be called. I remember thinking the Contrast of the situation was interesting. All these well dressed people with ideas of self importance and all the sudden reality invades. Needless to say those guys were not picked to get in. LOL. The Tunnel was a neat club back. I was in my early. 20’s. I have since been to clubs all over and in various places in Europe and decided that a club is a club is a club no matter where it is.
Me, my bestie, and another homegirl went to the Tunnel one night it may have been Friday or Sat night it was Funk master Flex bday party in 99 so many people was up un there Jr .Mafia, Cease, Kim, Eve, and Flex was killing Memph Bleek song My mind right & Lil Kim's album Notorious K.I.M. It was soo funny Dougie Fresh tried to holla at my bff they chatted for a few minutes but she had no pen to get his # lol..our only time at the Tunnel wished I could went back
Soooo did this doc ever come out? I was there in the 90's & I'd love to show this to my kid🤣 We didn't stand around at our parties looking stupid we actually had fun🥳🥳🥂
I’m so late to watch this lol dope tho. From the U.K. so I only experienced the tunnel through mix tapes. Where’s Cipha sounds on this? To me him and flex we’re the tunnel
I was late to the scene for Tunnel and only when to the dance club nights but damn seeing how popular hip hop made this place made me glad I experienced this place. Was fun for the couple years I got to be their.
That’s funny someone mentioned not getting their coat back. My brother checked in a wind breaker and forgot to get it back. We went the next day and they did not have it. I think the coat check people must have had a clothing store on the side. LOL
The tunnel did not close because of hip hop on a Sunday. It close from my understanding on regular party night an under age white girl got in some trouble at the spot Also the owner was under investigation.
Peter Gatien was tried for drug dealing, yes, and clubs were closing around that time as NYC was changing and Giuliani led a crackdown on nightlife. I was there and Mayor Giuliani reenacted the old cabaret law. Without a cabaret license (not easily available) it was illegal to dance at places where drinks were served😂. Truth! I was at a tiny club one night and we were dancing, the cops came in and DJ's had to stop. We waited for 30 minutes after they left, and carried on. But Giuliani truly tried to kill NYC nightlife. Some stuff he did was good, but he went too far too many times, and clearly didn't like non-white people and culture. He wasn't nearly the sad, desperate for power, unhinged person he is nowadays, though.
I was blessed with size and maturity at a young age. Security would of flipped to know they were letting a 15 year old boy in there every weekend with my older cousin and his dancing crew. Not realizing it then but I could of got a lot of shortys in trouble back then- I used to sauté hellla yams in those bathroom stalls🤭🤫🙈🙉🙊
I remember heads going to th hardware store that was a few blocks down from the tunnel and buying box cutters and screw drivers to try to hide them to bring into the tunnel lmao! I was there only 4 times but 1 of those times is when they shot the DMX video “Get at me dogg” smfh that place was going fucking crazy! The strobe lights were all over the place and I seen like six people get knocked the fuck out during that video and I was only 19 years old at the time! The tunnel was a hip hop landmark
Although I am from this generation in Hip Hop, I'm not from NY and I've never been to the Tunnel. Can someone tell me what crew ran/balled the most at the Tunnel? Did anyone or any crew ever buy out the bar?
I wish i would have went to the Tunnel on a Sunday, I played the main floor every Saturday/Sunday morning from 99 til it closed I was always was too hungover to go to back on Sunday night

Yes, OMG it used to go down outside. Hahahaha

Nobody named The Tunnel The Tunnel in 1992, I was clubbing there under that name in 1986 when it was a Synth-pop new wave alternative rock club.
Rest in peace king P infamous Mobb deep
yo true story, choke need to use that first song as his intro
Yo Peace to the God Born True I have not seen him for mad yrs
Imagine if Death Row crew would had performed in the tunnel sheesh
Who bought the bar out is the ??,
you cant have a documentary called hip hip nucleus without wu tang in it can you
Back then the tunnel was known as "the Studio 54 of Hip Hop"
I was blessed with size and maturity at a young age. Security would of flipped to know they were letting a 15 year old boy in there every weekend with my older cousin and his dancing crew. Not realizing it then but I could of got a lot of shortys in trouble back then- I used to sauté hellla yams in those bathroom stalls🤭🤫🙈🙉🙊
i use to go every fk weekend ,girls ,drugs you name it ,best time ever
I wish i would have went to the Tunnel on a Sunday, I played the main floor every Saturday/Sunday morning from 99 til it closed
I was always was too hungover to go to back on Sunday night
