happy isn't the same as energetic. being happy doesn't mean i have to go running, jumping, and dancing all over the place. I can be lying around like a fat cat and still be happy. this is the chill type of happy. great song.
Wonderful cover! Reminds me of their simpler days... Their newer stuff is pretty good, but just doesn't compare. Hopefully they'll do a full circle back to this sound eventually, because it's obviously not lost on them.
Lauren Clare lol it is Maroon 5, but the post production from the pop producers involved over did it with autotune and fillers. When they play live, it's a different story.
This reminds me of why I first started listening to Maroon 5, brings back memories of their old sound. I like them now, but it's not the same, anyone agree?
this was actually a pretty cool experiment. When I listen to Pharrell sing this song, obviously he sounds happy and is celebrating it. But this version? This makes me think of a man down on his luck, but he's still smiling, and wants other depressed people to smile along with him. At least, that's what i feel from this
Interesting theory I thought about something close to this as well nice observation and I think that a possible theory could be that Pharrell was celebrating but Adam took it in the way you're theorizing so he chose to change the song this way to make us see it too
I'm bipolar since long ago and was searching for happiness. No wonder Pharrell's version sounds way more delight and makes you dance. It gets everybody moving, just take a look at the covers people do around the world. I like that very much, but I get to say Adam's is more soulful. It makes me feel so calm and peaceful when I close my eyes. It's never sad to me.
Was expecting an up-beat song close to the original, and was totally content with that. Instead I find this, and am pleasantly surprised. Adam, and his band-mates, are so talented. So lovely. Wow.
Glad to see the chilled out stuff from Maroon 5 again. Their first 2 albums had some gems and Payphone and Maps aren't a patch on stuff like Tangled, The Sun, Must Get Out, Wake Up Call and Wont go home without you. Adam does seem to forget his words at one point, but good interpretation.
***** I agree. It is good, but is nothing on the songs from Songs About Jane, and some of album 2. Those songs were hyper professional. Always a difficult balance.
I love their newer songs like Maps and Payphones too, they're truly beautiful and more than a patch, sorry fella. Artists are allowed to experiment and try new and cool things all the time. There's nothing wrong with that. Animals is their only horror-esque song and I always loved that about them. + the music video for it was chilling. Something straight out of a horror movie too and I absolutely dig that. I dig them willing to push the boundaries constantly. Like what Maroon 5's lead guitarist once said about their new style of music: We're evolving. -- And I couldn't agree more with that. You can't nor should do the same old thing over and over again. It will get bland, boring and stale real soon and then all you old fans will complain about that instead. Sorry, not.
***** but they definitely sold out to get more fans and it totally worked, I used to be addicted to Songs About Jane and then once Hands All Over came out every one was like Maroon 5 that new band. They still have the talent its just that the majority are into dumb 2 liner pop songs with an uppy beat.
Andrew T Wrong. Just like most bands, Maroon 5 went into a different zone to do different music. Its how the music industry works. Things change and the only thing they have still is that they are still bloody amazing.
I love their newer songs too, they're truly beautiful as well. Artists are allowed to experiment and try new and cool things all the time. There's nothing wrong with that. Animals is their only horror-esque song and I always loved that about them. + the music video for it was chilling. Something straight out of a horror movie too and I absolutely dig that. You can't nor should do the same old thing over and over again. It will get bland, boring and stale real soon and then all you old fans will complain about that instead. Sorry, not.
Mercy Oluwole EXACTLY just look at Maroon 5's song Misery - the lyrics don't really match the so called happy melody but it works and it's one of my fav songs
This is pretty good! Who am I kidding? Everything in their music is awesome. It's just that fans want to see Maroon 5 Maroon5VEVO in these kind of songs. I concur!!
Love the acoustic and slower take on this song. I love Maroon 5 stripped down and simplified. I’ve seen them live a few times and my favorite concert was a smaller venue, in 2008 before all the hype. They are one of the few bands that sound better live than their canned radio versions.
i know i'm answering this super late, but actually a lot of maroon 5's old music has this same stripped, jazzy sound. i recommend listening to some of the songs from their album 'songs about jane' :))))
They need to make their albums like this again. I don't mind the Pop but the soul and slow-rock was appreciated just as much!! But Adam's voice sounds great thou!!!
I feel like this version is for mellow people like me who would rather chill than go to a party or something. We're still happy, just not as energetic. You feel me?
It's not sad at all. You don't have to be upbeat all the time to be happy. This is more chill version of the song. It's beautiful. The tune is still happy and mellow.
+TyrtleMae err... coincidental might be a better word. Adam covering Happy isn't deliberately contrary to anything... unless there's some behind the scenes beef or whatever i don't know of.
Ian Lim Maybe so. But I still find Adam attractive and hilarious. Which has nothing to do with the topic at hand because while I value your point ans realize my misuse, I really don't want to talk about irony anymore because I feel like a goofball. I knew what I was trying to say... and what I meant which was coincidental that it happened, but my mind was clouded with WAY to many story lines and plots and other story involving things to think of that darmed word.
oh okay. i was just thinking there might've been some behind the scenes or on screen rivalry or something that i didn't catch, similar to when Christina was still a coach.
Great version of Pharrel's huge hit "HAPPY". I like the vocal twist Adam puts on this song. He needs to do more songs that are soulful and real love songs!
Sazishowaki Noraku I think maybe cuz the cover in blues. We know blues singer mostly is black man. Adam/Maroon sounds like this too in another blues song, if I'm not wrong "Ain't No Sunshine"
I'm sorry, but I laughed so hard during this. This is, like, the "happiest" song in existence, and yet Adam chooses to sound like a sad sack of potatoes. Gotta love him xD btw speed 1.25 is MUCH better
+Tivona S. IMO It dosent sound that sad, I mean, I'd love to listen to this while relaxing in a coffee shop after a hard day, coffee in hand, while taking it all in
+Tivona S. Doesnt sound sad. It might seem sad because it's a lot slower than the original verison, but thats just Adam doing his own version of the song.
its not a sad version. its like. a chill vibe. like youre in a beach.calm asf
definitely. a sllllloooowww chill stoned on the beach vibe lol
Can you make this song seem sad?
+amit banai well theres someone commenting about it being a sad version.that Adam doesnt have a great version of it.
+Zoë Santos definitely.
still it makes feel you blue)
happy isn't the same as energetic. being happy doesn't mean i have to go running, jumping, and dancing all over the place.
Their new stuff is so overproduced it's hard to tell if it's Maroon 5's new album or Adam Levine's album.
Lauren Clare lol it is Maroon 5, but the post production from the pop producers involved over did it with autotune and fillers. When they play live, it's a different story.
Yep, it's a lot more soulful, i'm glad that there was at least one song or two in V that saved the album, and had less production more vocals.
Lauren Clare Mary Graaff Did you guys ever watch their live show for Rock in Rio? It's incredible. All there old stuff to.
:) yeah, now their live shows, and old material... Amazing so much soul!
This reminds me of why I first started listening to Maroon 5, brings back memories of their old sound. I like them now, but it's not the same, anyone agree?
same here
yeah :)
Yeah...I feel like this performance is more like their old "Songs About Jane" sound. Why can't more of their music sound like that??
AGREE
***** I feel you.
I could seriously lay back to this song on loop all day... It's like his voice is saying 'Just chill'
I could very happy listening to this sitting in a beach chair, reading a good book, and sipping margaritas.
Yeh, just lounging in the sun, relaxed, people just doin what people do..xx
Oh that sounds wonderful. I do have iced tea and I do have a pile of good books.
A sad song. That's what you get when you give the most happiest song to Maroon 5. Love em.
Angel Ajoy Is that supposed to be a good thing?
João Carlos Nogueira Not bad, not good. It's music to my ears, homie (literally).
Angel Ajoy That's not a sad song? Dafuq
AlberteTDK the tune controls the mood
+Deny Me Actually, the lyrics does :)
I wouldn't have thought that master of bombastic vocals is bringing this song down so much. Very good cover.
this was actually a pretty cool experiment. When I listen to Pharrell sing this song, obviously he sounds happy and is celebrating it. But this version? This makes me think of a man down on his luck, but he's still smiling, and wants other depressed people to smile along with him.
At least, that's what i feel from this
Anthony Salvino 中肯
That's prettt good
thats an interesting way of looking at it
For mee it kinda sounds aand feels like a rich man enjoying is wealth or somthing like that haa
Interesting theory I thought about something close to this as well nice observation and I think that a possible theory could be that Pharrell was celebrating but Adam took it in the way you're theorizing so he chose to change the song this way to make us see it too

His voice is perfectionn!!
Was expecting an up-beat song close to the original, and was totally content with that.
Instead I find this, and am pleasantly surprised. Adam, and his band-mates, are so talented. So lovely. Wow.
That chord change in the chorus just hits beautifully!
I could help but smile throughout this whole video. Adam sounded great. Loved this rendition. :)

Always a difficult balance.
i agree that payphone is kinda mainstream and stuff but i really liked maps0.0
I love their newer songs like Maps and Payphones too, they're truly beautiful and more than a patch, sorry fella. Artists are allowed to experiment and try new and cool things all the time. With the voice that he has, this cover is wonderful.
Could listen to this verson all day. It's so chill and calming
this version is not boring. its how they are. honestly this version is super awesome and chill
this is so chill the world could be burning and I'll be snapping my fingers to this
Adam's voice is always Perfect!!! Lost stars , next time please! Look at Jesse , gotta miss him. :-3
Great, miss the old, more soulful maroon 5
Me too!!! Why can't more of their music be like "Songs About Jane"? That was their masterpiece album in my opinion.
POD TRASH
I disagree.
Just because they have a different style now, that doesn't mean you should disrespect them like that.
***** but they definitely sold out to get more fans and it totally worked, I used to be addicted to Songs About Jane and then once Hands All Over came out every one was like Maroon 5 that new band. the best song to hear by the beach , relaxing on the water , with your shades on and tan in .. A smile I would say
why do people keep calling this a sad version of a happy song - it's just really chill and stripped down, like Maroon 5's older stuff
I agree wholeheartedly
Just because it's slow doesn't mean it's
Sad and just because it's fast doesn't
Mean it's a happy song either
Mercy Oluwole EXACTLY
just look at Maroon 5's song Misery - the lyrics don't really match the so called happy melody but it works and it's one of my fav songs
+MsLm97 I absolutely agree. Misery is very danceable yet it's a mournful song. That was a great example.
+Mercy Oluwole I agree with you!
love these guys! and they still rock their old Songs About Jane vibe when you get them live 😍
Adam always had such a gorgeous voice, finally I get to hear it again without any auto-tune :)
The guitar is so Maroon 5 style. Great.
This is pretty good! Who am I kidding? Everything in their music is awesome. It's just that fans want to see Maroon 5 Maroon5VEVO in these kind of songs. I concur!!
Okay, I really love the dance version Pharrell did, but this laid back style is also excellent. Adam's voice sounds great on this.
I love watching these things because it brings these artists down to earth and makes you see em as human and just as good as the rest of us.....
It's like old Maroon 5 all over again. Good times. So much better than their new Animals, Maps and whatever else. It's truly beautiful.
I love their newer songs too, they're truly beautiful as well. Artists are allowed to experiment and try new and cool things all the time. There's nothing wrong with that. so chill. nothing can make me unlove levine and that voice of his gahhh.

wow the chill in this cover is everything. Anyone knows any music with this kinda vibe?
i know i'm answering this super late, but actually a lot of maroon 5's old music has this same stripped, jazzy sound. i recommend listening to some of the songs from their album 'songs about jane' :))))
+Joy Thekiso old songs by The Police
Anything put out by Travis Scott
you may find this type of music in like bossa nova, neo soul and jazz
+Joy Thekiso Jazz music
tan lindo Adam. con su tono particular. lo AMO
They need to make their albums like this again. I don't mind the Pop but the soul and slow-rock was appreciated just as much!! But Adam's voice sounds great thou!!!
amazing !
The only Srilankan artist who I see in these comments 😂
'Happy' by a sad Adam.
Ironic
Oh my your comments had me rolling XD
Its jazz. lol
ndree alexander i think it's more like blues.
It is a modern bossa
I like this style better than the original. The tone and sound of it. Soft, mellow. Blues style
This is so chill. I love it . It's an alternative to the song if you don't feel all hyper or high energy but you're happy and you just want to chill
I miss "Songs about Jane"
+emma tter this really feels like their old sound. i miss it too :(
This is just amazing~
Falling in love with this "Happy" again
so chilled, love this. INSANE!
More of a jazz and blues feel to this one. Amazing how you can change around a popular song and make it feel brand new. Good one...
Adam's Voice is Amaziing!! This Cover Is In Full Style Of Maroon 5 Of Songs About Jane!!!
Loved this version 👍👏💗
Man I miss old style Maroon 5, that was more jazzy, cooler song like this cover, and much less mainstream. But cool cover
Im in love with his voice
"Briiing me down" sooo adorable💙
I feel like this version is for mellow people like me who would rather chill than go to a party or something. We're still happy, just not as energetic. You feel me?
Samantha blu gotcha bud
There with you😇
Adam Adam Adam OH ADAM. I come back to this video from time to time and feel absolutely graced.
I love this version so much better than the original. XD GO ADAM!
Chloe Jones hi angel hah
I love maroon 5 and have for years and Adam's voice is still absolutely amazing.
Would be at home on Songs About Jane haha. Gotta love it when they do a throwback.
Love that Cuban Montuno piano feel in the bridge... twas sick.
i'm crying unicorn piss this is so fucking amazing holy hell
April Butcher DANYUL JAMES HOWELL YUS

Lol 😂😭 I agree
It's not sad at all. You don't have to be upbeat all the time to be happy. This is more chill version of the song. It's beautiful. The tune is still happy and mellow.
Its super ironic, cause he is now a judge on The Voice with Pharrell, and that makes me happy. ^_^ALSO: HE IS AMAZING AT EVERYTHINGGGG i love adam
+TyrtleMae how's it ironic?
Ian Lim because Happy was written by Pharrell and Adam covers it. They are co-judges for The Voice. I find that ironic.
+TyrtleMae err... coincidental might be a better word. Adam covering Happy isn't deliberately contrary to anything... unless there's some behind the scenes beef or whatever i don't know of.
Ian Lim Maybe so. But I still find Adam attractive and hilarious. oh okay. i was just thinking there might've been some behind the scenes or on screen rivalry or something that i didn't catch, similar to when Christina was still a coach.
they know how to make it work with the jazz sound, hopefully one day they'd go back to this type of music it'd be amazing!
this version actually made me like this song tbh
I like this version, so amazing how he took this song to another place!!
adam Have One of The Best Voice In Music Industry Like If You Agree
+
This is not the typical dance and jump vive. This is an inner feeling that makes you smile and sing along with
Only this guy could cover such a successful track
'Happy' in the different way, fun and relaxing...
Love you guys
I don't feel like clapping along to this cover.
he sounds amazing :) yea but the tune is not happy , more cool and feels like jazzz at a bar ;)
more like snap along :)
More like vibe along. Way better. ;)
What a great rendition of Pharrell's song. Way to go Adam! Incredibly talented.
i can actually listen to this song when he sings it :)
he's got a really beautiful voice, the pop songs he sings sometimes make you forget that
DAMNNN I LURV THIS
I love your icon xD
100percentMeeee
thank you????????? hahaha [that's Dan Howell]
I know it's Dan xD that's why I liked it lol
Brilliant version, that when stripped back, highlights how talented they are. Nice job.
This sounds amazing! 😍
Loved these chords they used. Soulful! It reminds me of India Aire and stuff
Impressive. Relaxing and chill sound
Adam has a natural jazz voice here like the one on Sunday morning. This cover is really good
I love this version more than the original ....my fav band
YEAH! So chilled and so old Maroon 5. Loving it #happydays
This is great because Maroon 5 transcribes the real message of this song and they do it well. This could be the original.
Love, love love this version by you Adam. I hope it will be on sale.
This version was warm and smooth, GG maroon 5
Wow!!!! Amazing!!!! One of the best vocals ever!!!
This song could be on Songs about Jane
i smile every single time i watch this. amazing
Maroon 5 forever 😍😍😍😙😙😙
This is why I am a Maroon 5 fan. Just Beautiful.
Actually, I really hate "happy", is not a bad song but I'm just so tired of it. But watching Maroon 5 covering this just turned it into something good
Great version of Pharrel's huge hit "HAPPY". I like the vocal twist Adam puts on this song. He
needs to do more songs that are soulful and real love songs!
remind me of their old songs :)
Que buena versión ... I still thinking that this song make me happy in every single version, love this and love Pharrell's version.
Reminds me of old Maroon 5 like Songs About Jane. Which Maroon 5 jammed again with soul and funk like that album did.
Omg this sounds like their older stuff!!!!! This is GOLD!!!!!!
How can you take the happiest song and make it sounds sad?
How is this sad? It's down-tempo, jazzy and mellow... Not sad at all
Mellow. Exactly.
make the speed 1.25 if you want the "happy" version of it
***** hehe. good one!
***** I'd rather play it in 1.5 speed, it sounds more like the original.
Soulful rendition gets you feelin right
Songs about Jane vibes!!! More albums like this pls!!!!!
Can this be even more perfect?? Excellent !
close your eyes and listen to it, adam sounds like cee lo green...
finally!! a white man that sounds like a black man!!
Sazishowaki Noraku What about George Ezra? He sounds like an old black guy
I was actually thinking of Herbert The Pervert
Sazishowaki Noraku I think maybe cuz the cover in blues. We know blues singer mostly is black man. Adam/Maroon sounds like this too in another blues song, if I'm not wrong "Ain't No Sunshine"
If i close my eyes listening to this i’ll fall asleep
Ugh. That last jazzy note. Absolute perfection.
I'm sorry, but I laughed so hard during this. This is, like, the "happiest" song in existence, and yet Adam chooses to sound like a sad sack of potatoes. Gotta love him xD
btw speed 1.25 is MUCH better
Matthew Wood Oh. Makes sense, I suppose.
+Tivona S. Are you kidding? 0.5 speed all the way.
+UnknowinglyDerpy AGREED
Love it. Wish maroon 5 would do more Bossa Nova songs
This is such a nice cover!
How can anyone not love this!
Nice bluesy sound to this. Nice.
