I had the privilege to see one of these wonderful Cuckoos today. At a place known as Upware near Wicken Fen. He sat on the top of a nearby bush, singing his iconic song. We managed to take a couple of pictures :) Never ever seen one before and that brightened my day up no bounds.
There's a cuckoo in my neighbourhood, been hearing it the last week or so, but haven't seen it yet. It's literally outside now cuckooing. Never seen or heard one before ❤
Three times recently have been to the Lake District and each time have heard the beautiful call of a cuckoo...nice to know they are still out there..!!
They can remind me of Kestrels with their long tails. Seen briefly in flight, and flying against the sun, I have to stop and think about what I’ve just seen!
Ma'am you did an excellent job telling us about the cuckoo birds which recently has been the topic of discussion in our home because of the cuckoo clocks
Saw and heard a male cuckoo near Bethesda in North Wales a couple of weeks ago … filmed it on my phone but it’s just a dot…but the sound os unmistakable!
This was a great clip…thank you for taking the time to upload it and I’m now pretty sure I’ve seen them in the past and mistaken them for something else. Does anyone know if male cuckoo’s can make their call while on the wing?…..I’m learning an old Banjo song and the lyrics say it wobbles, or warbles as it flies? So just trying to work out which lyrics have changed over the years and which are right …. Thanks
Thanks for your interesting question. Cuckoos call both in flight and from perches. Male Cuckoos make the "cu-coo" call they are named for, whereas the call of female Cuckoos is a bubbling sound that could possibly be described as wobbling or warbling.

I'm not a birder, but I do find this fascinating (I respect and want to preserve nature even though I explore it only on screen). Thank you very much.

I was lucky enough to here one last summer. It’s unfortunate that they are declining :(
