Great to see a different scenario for once! I am wondering how the rest of the chicks survive having a mean parasite that hatches first and kicks everything else out of the nest!
It could be because it’s close enough to the ground to not break, or it could be luck, the eggs might have hatched before the parasite bird, the mother was there and stopped it from killing the other eggs
You know I always thought this was a really sly move, but it's actually incredibly easy to tell which one the wrong bird is lol. Surely the mother bird notices how one behaves very differently from the other 3, even if they couldn't see color very well and could mix them up, it would be easy to figure out there's 3 of them waiting patiently for food and there's 1 that actively demands and pecks at the momma.
Normally the cuckoo pushes the other eggs out of the nest before they hatch so is the only chick there. Quite rare to see a cuckoo with the other chicks like that.
Nature can be vicious. I feel bad for the baby. it's pure instinct. But damn nice to see that the others did not all starve or get shoved from the nests like so many do. Guess the cuckoo egg was laid late giving the mothers real babies the ability to hold their own.
I’m glad someone else feels bad for the cuckoo chick. It did nothing “wrong” it’s as desperate to survive as the other chicks There’s something really creepy and also sad to me how desperate and angry it gets. As it roars in what looks to my human eyes as desperate rage. I have never seen a bird act like that. I’m more than likely projecting too much onto this. But there’s something tragic about something born a “monster” and forced to revert into one as it is rejected. This whole thing just leaves a bad feeling.
@ciontachthecthonicchampion3576 You are not mistaken; emotions are very much real even in wild animals. The reason the cuckoo appears so furious is not out of simple hunger, but because of its instincts. Because the cuckoo has evolved to possess parasitic instincts, it instinctively knows that the birds that raise it are not its actual parents. Thus, unlike the other chicks, the cuckoo's singular impulse is to abuse and annoy the birds that raise it into giving it all the food possible, as it instinctively has no love for them.
The nesting apparently was documented early on and it was laid “on time” but the hatched cuckoo couldn’t successfully kick the eggs out due to how the nest was made. Now it has competition and can’t dominate its competition to death.
The mother bird is avoiding being attack by the parasite 🦠 😂 fun to watch, I’m patiently waiting for the three to fledged from the nest because they will be safe from being attack by the old cuckoo, keep feeding your children parents bird 🦅
@Absalom Jones It is a bird. You speak about it as though it possesses sophisticated consciousness, and that you can put moral constraints on it. It’s not ‘evil’ it does not ‘know’ what it’s doing is ‘wrong’. It is an animal, attempting to survive.
I've never enjoyed seeing a bird suffer as much as I did watching this video. Mom Bird: "Look, I didnt even know about this sleepover, but your mom didnt leave any food money for you. When is she picking you up again?" Cuckoo Chick: "Picking up?!"
This is the first time I have seen behavior like this. So the mothet bird found out that it's not her baby? How? Also, it's strange that cuckoo didn't manage to romve the eggs from the nest? What's going on? What's happened next? I'd love to see more!
Depends on the cocoo species. Cocoos are a very interesting species some do not push out their silblings, some do. Might also be an individual abnormality. Best guess is that the mother does not feel stimulated to feed the strange chick because she has the right stimuli in her nest (her own chicks) and they have a different color inside their mouth. Birds get stimulated by the pattern and colors inside the mouth of their chicks. There are some real wierd chicks with freaky mouth patterns out there.
@@JP-uf9sh Thanks! What about the other video in which the mother Cocco came to the nest and pushed the little chicks ( of the original nest) out? I thought the cocco would leave her eggs once she placed them on the host nest.
The other babies make a different noise and have yellow mouths so it's quite obvious that the cuckoo chick isn't theirs and are avoiding feeding it, they know it's a parasite but feed it a little to get by so the mother cuckoo doesn't come and kill the other chicks and destroy the nest.. smart birds.
@@themanwhocantbemovedbyatru1988 Good point (something that I learned from your comment), it is like for humans as well. Only the mother is 100% sure the baby is hers. We have a lot of swallows in my town, and it is so irritating how they just poop everywhere. So it is nice to see a bird with a toilet culture
The fact that the cuckoo chick has grown that much shows that it is being fed. I think the reason we see the parent birds feed their chicks and not the cuckoo chick is because they are calling for food at the right pitch that indicates they are hungry. Whereas the cuckoo chick is calling for food at a different pitch than the parent bird is used to. In other videos where we see parent birds feeding the cuckoo chick that’s cuz the really chicks were already starved or thrown out.
Unfortunately this is one of those made up videos. Someone put the chick in that nest long after it hatched, so it's not a surprise the mother is ignoring this giant hatchling it's not strong enough to get rid of.
Actually cukoo chicks are twice the size of the hosts birds chicks at birth, but due to instinct the mother can't discern the difference until its birds develop that bright yellow throat and at the point the mother will cease all feedings to the cukoo.
@@OukiLipsmaking shit up on the internet. apparently this was a wild nest this person found and set up a camera to watch. the cuckoo did hatch early and tried to push the eggs out of the next, but couldnt crack them because of the wall in the video and the fact that there was no long fall to damage the eggs, so they remained whole. the cuckoo is also unusually small because its only being fed by its dad, the mother refuses to feed it as shown in this video.
Let's say your ancestors killed someone of the lower race 800 years ago. Quite possible! Would someone of that race killing you now be justice then? So fun to watch? Fun cuz it is not you who is suffering?
Fun fact, this bird evolved to be born with bright yellow throats as a way to deal with parasitic cukoo infestation. The mother will not recognize the bright red of the cukoos mouth and thus will instinctively starve it, while shoving food into the yellow ones.
In other circumstances, that'd be a bit funny, but in this case the "poo" are actually nutrients the chicks can't digest yet. Why would the mother give valuable nutrients to the cuckoo when she could eat it herself and be able to keep feeding her young?
Feel kinda bad for the cuckoo 😢 He didn't ask to be laid in that nest, poor baby is just hungry. As far as he's concerned, that's the only mother he's ever known.
Okay fair enough to say that the mother bird wasn't impressed by the cuckoo bird begging, and blocked every go to come first before the others and yet still trying to inch forward in the nest the mother went, "nope" and fed her babies. The fact that I appreciate how she got so offended by tge baby cuckoo attacking her also seemed as if she was about to fight but kept her composure

Remember that bird was placed there, it hatched and its clueless that its a parasite. It does things out of instinct because that's how nature programmed them. In a way its not the cuckoo bird fault i would be willing to bet that they genuinely think thats his mom
There is no blame in this situation. We filter the animal world through our morals sometimes. Manipulation, exploitation, especially it being so targeted, makes people a little bit more angry than usual. That chick, however, is designed to kill the rest of the chicks in the nest. I am secure in saying that that is a particularly evil animal. It's just so intimately cruel. I mean, too bad so sad? As long as both species populations are sustainable then I'll tolerate it.
He knows its not his true mom, it is rooted in instinct otherwise cuckoos wouldn't be able to meet their true kinds to reproduce, who they also never met before.
This appears to be evolution in progress. The Cuckoo bird filled a niche by becoming a parasite in the nests of other bird species. But it seems some species have developed the ability to recognize an intruder in their nest and will not feed it.
Satisfying lol This warbler momma has probably already raised a cuckoo free nest so the cuckoo she has now is an obvious intruder. It may have tricked her for a while but shes clearly the wiser now 😂
This is an example of birds evolving to be smarter about what’s in their nest, on normal circumstances the mother would give all her attention to the Cuckoo baby but instead she ignores them and opts to feed only her own children, since in a normal circumstance the cuckoo would have thrown the babies out of the nest and increased the odds of outgrowing the nest entirely
Then you interfer with evolution and how species reproduce. Just because humans do not like or understand a natural system isn't a reason to interfere.
@@srisukloon3948 there is no such thing as a "cruel bird." Why are you attempting to assign subjective human value judgements, anthropomorphizing, and describing naturally evolved survival behaviors as "evil?" Why do you, as a mere human, think you have the right to do that?

All these comments talking about how they enjoy seeing a baby bird starving. Lets you know who the psychos are, to enjoy an animal suffering. Might be a parasetic bird, but thats literally how they were designed and evolved. It's one of God's creatures as much as the others. And for those that don't believe in God, then the birds evolved like this for a reason and they've survived this long as well as the other species. I could understand if it was invasive, still sad, but to take joy in the suffering of ANY animal is incredibly psychotic.
They often draw a comparison with less "cuddly" parasitic animals. Yeah I wouldn't like having fleas and ticks all over me, or a tapeworm in my intestines, I still wouldn't think that they are doing this out of malice or relishing over pain with sick human-like glee instead of simply acting their nature as they were meant to survive. Placing human morals on animals that couldn't care less is stupid.
@@nugget4yearsago518 Exactly. And whether people like it or not, they still play a key role in the environments they live in by helping to regulate wildlife. Everything has a purpose for its existence in nature. Nature is both beautiful and absolutely cruel, and parasitic creatures are still apart of nature. There have even been studies down on this that show parasitic birds can even be beneficial for the entire brood. These people cheering for the death of a baby cuckoo should not even call themselves animal/nature lovers as it is more then clear they only love a certain part of the animal kingdom and nature.
But knowing that a bird evolved to be a brood parasite efficiently doesn't mean humans have to like it, after all. They have developed an efficient ecological niche, but humans don't have to respect them for it. Most humans watching these videos feel badly for the host birds. Normally, their eggs would be killed by baby cuckoo. It's understandable that the people watching the videos are relieved that mama bird is taking care of her own babies and not the brood parasite. It's true that humans shouldn't apply human logic to animals, but humans cheer for heroes in movies over the villains, too. It's not that unusual that they would see the cuckoo bird as villainous for killing off competition. Is it wrong to apply human mentality to birds? Sure, but it's understandable why people watching feel this way. It doesn't make them psychotic
That's not how it works sadly. The clips where the mother feeds the cuckoo are edited out, that's one healthy cuckoo if I ever saw one. The mistake this cuckoo did was not getting rid of the eggs(ie the competition). That's normally what they do. The mother can't tell the difference, they all smell the same. That's why cuckoos have been so successful. In some cases the cuckoo can become enormous compared to the bird feeding it. I had a book with cuckoos long ago and there was this funny picture of the mother bird sitting on the cuckoo and feeding it. The cuckoo was like 4-5 times the size of the "mother".
In many instances, the mother cuckoo will be close by and watch the nest. She will retaliate if she sees her baby missing or being mistreated. Even mons that evict cuckoos end up with nothing after mom comes in and destroys everything.
Okay can someone tell me wtf just happened at 0:17? The baby pooped out some sac and the parents immediately took it and flew off?!? Oh that was an easy google, yes the parents are eating the babies' poop sacs.

@@captaincory9133 Ah yes, that's possible too. Although it beats me as to why the cuckoo chick did not attempt to do away with its foster siblings if that was indeed the case.

I am pretty sure the mother feeds the cockoo chick as well. It would never have grown onto this size otherwise.
I love how the mother just stares off thinking "what did I do wrong with this one?"
This warms my cold heart.
agreed my friend
Great to see a different scenario for once! I am wondering how the rest of the chicks survive having a mean parasite that hatches first and kicks everything else out of the nest!
im going thru birb vids rn. Thought the same lol. 69th updoot for you.
I wonder I survived that situation myself. 😂
It’s on the ground so it can’t shatter the eggs. It likely tried pushing the eggs out but the mother probably just rolled them back in
It could be because it’s close enough to the ground to not break, or it could be luck, the eggs might have hatched before the parasite bird, the mother was there and stopped it from killing the other eggs
@ThisIsAHandle-xz5yo There's many videos of a mother bird watching a cuckoo chick tossing the other eggs/chicks out of the nest and doing nothing.
To be fair, not all birds species are smart, and in many species of birds, siblings already fight for their parent(s)’ attention
@ee5142 that's true, the mama bird probably isn't thinking about whether or not it's the right bird, she's just thinking one of the kids is squawking.
Normally the cuckoo pushes the other eggs out of the nest before they hatch so is the only chick there. Quite rare to see a cuckoo with the other chicks like that.
its quite big so shes only just stopped feeding it / noticed its not hers
Nature can be vicious. I feel bad for the baby. it's pure instinct. But damn nice to see that the others did not all starve or get shoved from the nests like so many do. Guess the cuckoo egg was laid late giving the mothers real babies the ability to hold their own.
That bird was still fed before. It's freaking huge.
I’m glad someone else feels bad for the cuckoo chick.
It did nothing “wrong” it’s as desperate to survive as the other chicks
There’s something really creepy and also sad to me how desperate and angry it gets.

When is she picking you up again?"
Cuckoo Chick: "Picking up?!"
This is the first time I have seen behavior like this. So the mothet bird found out that it's not her baby? How? Also, it's strange that cuckoo didn't manage to romve the eggs from the nest? What's going on? What's happened next? I'd love to see more!
Probably hatched late..

Actually, the parents are not 100% sure. This is why they feed it but give it the lowest priority.
No, the mother knows its not her chickso she doesn't feed it. The father on the other hand can't distinguish it and feeds the cuckoo hatchling.
@@themanwhocantbemovedbyatru1988 Good point (something that I learned from your comment), it is like for humans as well. Only the mother is 100% sure the baby is hers. what I noticed most from this video is how the parents, (because ye know this feeding is a two bird job) but how the parents take the faeces and flies away with them.
@@SemperRedany proof at all or just making shit up on the internet?
@@OukiLipsmaking shit up on the internet. apparently this was a wild nest this person found and set up a camera to watch. the cuckoo did hatch early and tried to push the eggs out of the next, but couldnt crack them because of the wall in the video and the fact that there was no long fall to damage the eggs, so they remained whole. the cuckoo is also unusually small because its only being fed by its dad, the mother refuses to feed it as shown in this video.

Fun fact, this bird evolved to be born with bright yellow throats as a way to deal with parasitic cukoo infestation. The mother will not recognize the bright red of the cukoos mouth and thus will instinctively starve it, while shoving food into the yellow ones.

Remember that bird was placed there, it hatched and its clueless that its a parasite. It does things out of instinct because that's how nature programmed them. In a way its not the cuckoo bird fault i would be willing to bet that they genuinely think thats his mom
Yes, from its perspective, mom just keeps ignoring it for some reason. It likely doesn't understand what's happening, why is it being mistreated.

Well, it looks well fed to me.
That is not evolution. The theory of evolution is based on the development of new genetics over time.

The mother's like: " Oh, what? There was another baby in this nest? I didn't give birth to no forth baby! Go find your own food!"

The mother can tell it's different by how it's acting
The beak color stimulates the parents Bird to feed its young. The parasite chick has an orange beak, while the other chicks are yellow.
Они его не могут выгнать? Такая наглость
In many instances, the mother cuckoo will be close by and watch the nest. She will retaliate if she sees her baby missing or being mistreated. Even mons that evict cuckoos end up with nothing after mom comes in and destroys everything.
