    I appreciate how direct this DIY video is. thank you. So many have the first 10 minutes of talking, rambling, tangents, etc which I find HIGHLY annoying. Yours was very pleasant to watch. I hope to make one soon.

      Zyra Bañez Don't worry about the length! It just bugs me when people make long videos and just talk and talk. But your videos have the perfect combination of music, voice overs, and content of video!

    So simple to follow! Thanks for showing people how to do it step by step (surprising how many other ones fail to do so). Best thing is we can use existing tools to make these rather than buy one from the shop and never use it again.

    I made it, I didn't have enough leather in one colour so I pieced three pieces together with copydex and made it like yours after that, except I made some holes on the front to thread elastic through for holding pen pencil and waterbrush, and inside I made a felt pocket for a card with blobs of watercolour paint on. I really like it, thank you for inspiring me with your video

    I made myself one yesterday. I've been looking at buying one for the longest, but I can't justify paying 60 bucks for a sheet of folded leather given my current life situation. I found that spray-on adhesive is a lot easier to work with than tape and glue, but I imagine any sort of adhesive would work. Thanks for uploading this video!

    • @zyrabanez
      @zyrabanez  9 років тому

      Akagism Awesome! I definitely know what you mean. I would think spray adhesive would work better, but I didn't want to buy one since I had the tape and glue already at hand :)

    I've recently discovered the Midori traveler's notebook and I became fascinated in it, especially since I recently began writing a journal (and I have a soft spot for leather). But, being the thrifty person I am, I wanted to have a look into the design to see if I can make my own instead of paying £30 for one off Amazon. So I found your video, and as I suspected its a simple concept with great potential. Great video, informative and practical. Now I just need to go around local charity shops to pickup all the materials.

    Why do you use the double sided tape if you are going to cover the surface in glue? This seems redundant, and I am wondering if the glue sticks as well to the smooth surface of the tape as it would to the rough, absorbent "wrong" side of the fabric?

    • @zyrabanez
      @zyrabanez  8 років тому +1

      it's optional. I like to do it to make the bond stronger (or at least that was the aim - this was kind of experimental) since I have tried gluing felt with just glue and it falls apart in the long run (idk maybe it's the glue that I've used then)

    Think, maybe you could make the corner cutting a little bit easier. Provided your scissors can clip through several layers of leather/vinyl, that is. Fold the cover in half, then in half again, so all four corners are on top of each other, then clip your corner, and it will look the same on all four corners.

    Hello, :) this is exactly the video I had been looking for and so easy to understand. Thank you for sharing. I noticed you had two other sizes. I was wanting to make a A5 size for my daughter who will be off to college soon and was wondering if you wouldn't mind sharing the measurements. Thanks, Monica :)

    • @zyrabanez
      @zyrabanez  7 років тому +1

      Thank you for the feedback! The one I made fits the Moleskine Cahier large journals (which has a smaller width than A5) and it was 22.5cm x 29cm. Since you want to make an A5.. I'd recommend making the width longer.. so around 22.5cm x 33cm :)

    There is a third hole that wasn't used, what was it for and do you use it in the future?

    • @zyrabanez
      @zyrabanez  8 років тому +1

      If I'm understanding this correctly, that third hole on the top and bottom of the traveler's notebook is not a hole. it's just a dot marking 1cm from the top and bottom, which will then help determine the two holes that's 0.5cm from both sides that dot (3:34)

    I'm gonna do the same thing but with watercolor paper, to make a traveler's watercolor book...hehe

    How did you get your vinyl to not feel floppy? Is it because of the insert you glued on the inside? Mine is floppy and pulling at the ends

      Stephanie Childress It's still very flexible but not as floppy as it was before I added the glue and felt. I'm not really sure how to fix the ends since mine don't have that kind of problem, but perhaps if you added glue to the ends and let it dry, it might seal it

    Is "Felt" the same as Flannel Wool? Because I'm WAY too lazy to drag myself to the arts shop, and all I have at home is Flannel Wool, would that work the same? Thanks!

      they're similar so it should be fine.. but honestly you can use whatever materials are available to you :) I've seen this done with paper!
