I'm part of the minority that enjoyed Shadowheart during the initial phase of early access, before Larian made her more likeable. It's kind of weird how she explains shars' teaching to you as if you didn't know anything about her yourself. Lots of weird answers too. That's probably the reason they cut this content entirely.
Based on the separation/pauses between each voice file, it seems as if the Shar-specific dialogues were just tacking a voice line of Shadowheart acknowledging your shared goddess before giving the same default lines as before. So probably if they kept it in, they would've had to record entirely fresh dialogues for Shadowheart. Not beyond Larian's skillset and dedication, but maybe not enough time to do it before release
I cannot wait for Paladin to be added not only because 5e Paladins are as busted as they always have been, but so I can have a Paladin of Shar (if the option is available) to go with the cleric.
@@GenshinLover283Nah, the issue with 5e Paladins and Gods is that its not entirely clear if a Paladin's powers comes from a God or their Oath. Because the game mentions and has you fight Paladins of Tyr I am hoping that they let us chose a religion like with cleric.
I think the animators added it to give a stronger expression. Lazeal also has those instances that looks like she is biting you and it adds to her character.
@@KevinSmith-qi5yn I personally think it's a bug. Only speculating, but it feels too jerky from word to word. If I have to guess, this is because they aren't using mo-cap - instead, animations are a series of lip/head movements strung together (this is how Witcher 3 did theirs). Each syllables is matched with a different animation (and the animators are essentially stringing along 20, 30 animation frames). As the game develops their goal is to smooth it out.
It's funny. When I played BG3 years ago in Patch 5 for 100 hours I kinda disliked all of the companions. A bunch of worthless arrogant assholes. But somehow with minor tweaks here and there they made them likeable. Seems like Larian listened to the feedback, thought about it, and changed only little things to help it. And I'm still able recognize the characters fully.
I know this video is old af, but I think the reason Shadowheart can't remember anything is because Shar's weapon 'the staff of oblivion' gives people complete amnesia when used. It also wouldn't surprise me one bit if shadowheart's story is based on the fight between selune and shar, where shar masqueraded as selune, took her followers, and almost succeeded into convincing selune that she was shar and that shar was selune. So if shadowheart winds up being a devout selunite with amnesia who became a shar worshipper after getting struck with the staff of oblivion... told you so.
i recognized the sound of the black throated loon at the beginning of the video. such an amazing sound they make, you should look it up if you read this.
I think the only priestess of Shar I can handle is Viconia. Half the stuff that comes out of shadowhearts mouth tempt me to use her for fireball target practice
Yeah Vic was good, but Im wondering if Shadowheart whole personality revolves around worshipping Shar. Those Characters in general are the most annoying when they never shut up about their shit god.
@@zara6854 I'm just hoping her character develops into more than just the fanatical disciple of Shar. ShadowHeart has some good moments but then it comes back to her going on about Shar again. Shar was more of a way to add flavor and backstory when it came to Viconia. She did like to go on about Drow culture and the strange and hostile reactions of the surface world but it didn't dominate every conversation in BG2. Call me a masochist but I really found her intriguing. BG3 is in early access and we've only seen a small unfinished section of the first act. I'm hoping they're adding a lot more substance to ShadowHeart as a character. Larian has made some great games but I've not always been happy with how some characters in there games remain stagnant such as Lohse in DOS2. So here's hoping.
@@zara6854 I'm hoping that her character turns out to have been mind wiped and have that personality implanted. She probably won't be any more likable but it would be an interesting explanation for why she's so... Single minded.
@@AAJillSandwich in fairness, Shadowheart's devotion, and the complete obsession she has with her goddess is what Viconia (or any cleric of Shar) should have had. Shar is canonically, a goddess with a certain degree of monomania. Even so, Viconia had her own form of ideological zealotry no less obsessive than Shadowheart - Viconia never shuts up about being a drow, and drow life, about how dangerous she is, how lowly non-drow are, and how edgy she is, and how the world will never accept her...blah blah ad infinitum. It's really not that different to Shadowheart. Viconia often warranted being left behind of trying another companion, just to get off her own single minded rant.
@@TheSamuraijim87 I get real tired of characters who's defining personality trait is the overbearing zealot such as Shadowheart. Here's hoping she develops somewhat as the game continues developing. In fairness I can say the same thing about Viconia. Being Drow she comes from a culture that's cruel and arrogant who's people ( the drow) are known to constantly backstab each other. Drow are treated as vile monsters and often looked upon with fear and hate from "surface dwellers". Viconia was no exception and was persecuted herself a lot of times no fault of her own because she's a Drow. It would be weird if she wasn't at some level paranoid and arrogant. Viconia also changes quite a lot when during her romance path in BG2, even more so when going the neutral route turning her allingment from evil to true neutral. She becomes a much more trusting person and mellows out.

@@Stuartette The files are still in the game, so if you're on PC you can still reactivate them with a mod. If you make it that far, Shadowheart SAYS that this is the chance for the two of you to become Justiciars, but she's the only one who actually does. I don't know if they just didn't get far enough to program the player into being recognized as one as well before scrapping the idea, or if it was just an oversight.
After the warning about changing origin character classes, I decided that shar would make an excellent sneak thief, since I'd staked Astarion when the guy tried to drink my blood. She is hiding her shar worship no matter her class, so it doesn't seem to matter.
I suspect they’ll get more compelling and relatable in the second act and beyond. Especially Lae’zel, whose world is going to fall apart when the kithrak tries to kill her. Lhose’s actor is also a lilting, expressive soprano. She’s designed to be likeable from the getgo.
In this instance she is like "My name is Shadowheart conformist and I'm a cleric a Shar" Player responds with "Oh yeah conformist?! My name is Night Pain and I'm a cleric of Shar!"
My Goliath Tempest Cleric of Talos literally summoning indiscriminate storm and having random violent outbursts (Dark Urge) Shadowheart: Don't judge me for my edgy darkness god, you don't understand me! Honestly for how offended she gets for you pushing her on her beliefs and secrets she brings them up ALL the time.
What is this strange magic of which they speak anyway? I couldn't stand dragging her around so I deliberately denied my party a cleric on my first playthrough, and rolled one myself on the second one. Does she just randomly go berserk and try to blast you or something?
no she like glows or something ?? I can't remember exactly and you also find her in camp doing something at some point, don't wanna spoil too much. I think you need to have high approval with her to get the cutscene.
When the game fully releases I'm only taking the "good" characters with me, Astarion annoys me, Lae'zel bores me and god Shadowheart is frustrating. An annoying thing I discovered is that even if your character doesn't use the Illithid powers after the second or third dream the characters treat you like you have. When Wyll confronted my Teifling druid I was like "Bitch, I have not done shit, what crawled in your pants and died?"
Less of a bug and more of a vestige of how paladins might have worked at one point in the development process. It works that way for all deities- if you check your tags you'll have both a "Cleric of X" and "Paladin of X" tag. I played a Paladin of Bahamut once. Even had one or two tagged options, though they weren't any different than the cleric options would have been, I think.
@@excaliburv4332 the bug part is in that the tag is still visible at all even though the option to choose a deity as a paladin was removed. But yes, it's definitely an artifact leftover from an idea abandoned during development.
If I want to play as one of my favorite 5E characters, the character will have to be a Selûne worshipper (all rogue except for one level of Knowledge cleric). I can't wait to see how it will mess with Shadowheart dialogue. My real question is what is the maximum level you can reach before meeting her (I need at least two because the starting class must be rogue).
you can multiclass into selune cleric at any moment and the dialogue will pop up like nothing, you will meet her during the tutorial level but it is possible to turn level two during it, and even level up to three or four before recruiting her
What kind of stupid ass question is it to ask Shadowheart if she's well-versed in Shar's teachings? She's a Dark Justicar and JUST TOLD YOU she follows Shar.
I honestly wish I could get enough approval with her to actually be able to know her storyline But she won't stop bitching me and I don't resist eldritch blasting her anymore
It's still in game, you just need to mod in Shar deity for clerics. Strangely enough paladin deities work as well, only for 1st act tho, cleric of shar works through the act 3. They just scraped it, possibly to make shadowheart origin more unique
Imagine worshipping a goddess (or a god) that caused the greatest catastrophe the world has ever known by orchestrating the murder of a goddess that is actually vital for the continued existence of the world.
Shadowheart's story arc (well if you take the good path)...Chapter 1: "Yeah Shar! Boo Selune!" Chapter 2: "Super yeah Shar! I want to be Shar's bestest Justiciar ever! And even more boo to Selune! Boo! Boo! Boo!" Chapter 3: "I worship Selune now, Shar sux!" I mean that's a bit of 180 turn if there ever was one, you would think instead of going from the super evil Shar to the super good Selune, she could have shifted a little more neutral first, maybe become a Helm worshiper for a while or something.
isn't the "sudden change" due to the fact that Dame Aylin literally tells her that she was a Selunite child abducted and indoctrinated into Sharran worship?

Shadowheart who is just rude all the time and her loyalty is questionable. Also slightly arrogant at points.
Lae'zel who is just semi-evil by our standards and obnoxiously rude. and very arrogant.
all in all, every character is essentially the same. They're all arrogant untrustworthy and rude.
as much as i like the game the writers botched this part. All the companions are the same personality. With slight differences. Only one that stands out is you.
@@Softpaw1996 let's just say I disagree with your overall opinion of the NPCs. I like that the NPCs are dicks. I'm part of the minority that enjoyed Shadowheart during the initial phase of early access, before Larian made her more likeable. Then again, I generally prefer doing evil playthroughs when I'm playing Baldur's Gate ever since Baldur's Gate 1. That's the great thing about good roleplaying games though, variety. Hopefully you'll find NPCs you enjoy travelling with upon the final release. Either way, I'm really looking forward to play through the entire game come August.
Cheers!
I'm not too much into d&d but I take it most paladins do not like shar?
@@GenshinLover283Nah, the issue with 5e Paladins and Gods is that its not entirely clear if a Paladin's powers comes from a God or their Oath. Because the game mentions and has you fight Paladins of Tyr I am hoping that they let us chose a religion like with cleric.

"You're not the kind of company I'd keep willingly"
Bitch, what?
Is it just me or does the mocap seem more smooth and overall cohesive than in the final release?
The way she moves her neck is a little too dramatic i think... No woman ive known has moved her neck that much in a normal human interaction..
All this talk of Char but not a single red moblie suit in sight.
Dammit Amuro!
And I'm still able recognize the characters fully.
very interesting to see the polish look at this now its released
I know this video is old af, but I think the reason Shadowheart can't remember anything is because Shar's weapon 'the staff of oblivion' gives people complete amnesia when used. It also wouldn't surprise me one bit if shadowheart's story is based on the fight between selune and shar, where shar masqueraded as selune, took her followers, and almost succeeded into convincing selune that she was shar and that shar was selune. So if shadowheart winds up being a devout selunite with amnesia who became a shar worshipper after getting struck with the staff of oblivion... told you so.
you were surprisingly close...
@@mmegidolaonn real close but I don't want to say just how close because of spoilers.

shame they removed shar for tav clerics in live. hopefully they put her back in (along with the others they removed) later on..
Right? Removing the dead 3, I get it… removing shar? : (
I wish they kept this in
Another way to get in good with Shadowheart is to produce a catastrophic shart.
@@zara6854
I'm just hoping her character develops into more than just the fanatical disciple of Shar.
@@TheSamuraijim87
I get real tired of characters who's defining personality trait is the overbearing zealot such as Shadowheart.
Shadowheart seems okay but hope they add in more clerics companions.
unlikely, there's only 3 more companions, ones a ranger that lacks hair and has a thing for small rodents, one is a teifling that you may or may not kill working for a fake paladin, don't really know the third.

I wanna know what happens if your character is a Cleric of Shar involving the Nightsong. Do you & Shadowheart both become Dark Justiciars or only one can become one or do they both fight for the right become DJ?
You can’t choose Shar as a deity in full release :(
@@Stuartette The files are still in the game, so if you're on PC you can still reactivate them with a mod.
Shadowheart and lae'zel makes me miss lohse so badly. They are definitely interesting to listen to... just not likable.
I suspect they’ll get more compelling and relatable in the second act and beyond. Especially Lae’zel, whose world is going to fall apart when the kithrak tries to kill her.
Lhose’s actor is also a lilting, expressive soprano. She’s designed to be likeable from the getgo.
Shadowheart is definately going to be likeable. Just not from the beginning of act 1 like lohse. Sebille took a bit of time too but she was great.

My Goliath Tempest Cleric of Talos literally summoning indiscriminate storm and having random violent outbursts (Dark Urge)
Shadowheart: Don't judge me for my edgy darkness god, you don't understand me!
I heard you can be a "Selune Paladin", anyone know how??
Kind of a bug/glitch but, if you multiclass paladin and cleric of Selûne, you'll sometimes get options marked as "Paladin of Selûne".

Boo! Boo! Boo!" Chapter 3: "I worship Selune now, Shar sux!" isn't the "sudden change" due to the fact that Dame Aylin literally tells her that she was a Selunite child abducted and indoctrinated into Sharran worship?
