Dashboard Confessional submitted another song to Sony for Spiderman 2, but after watching the full film before it was released to theaters, while on vacation in Hawaii the vocalist didn't engage in all the fun but instead picked up his guitar, immersed himself composing another song after being inspired by the movie. After finishing, they called Sony and asked if they could replace the first song they submitted, Sony agreed only if they can submit a cut of the song. So they quickly setup a makeshift recording studio to produce the song. After submitting it they were called by Sony informjng not just about approving the new song, but were asked to record it on the same day, since it will be a part of the movie. Their vacation was cut short and had to fly to LA. They arrived in the set where Doctor Octopus had his machine, and was asked to perform on the spot. The song became number 2 in all charts on that year, making it the most iconic song in a Marvel movie.
fr i was born in 2001 and it was the best decade to grow up in I'm a 2000s person still from the way i dress to the music i listen to and movies i watch
Same here! Just turned 27 and this song still give me the same feelings I had when I was 14! Makes me nod , makes me sing along and pretend I'm singing it on stage! Oh the glory days!
"I am selfish, I am wrong, I am right....I swear im right! Swear I knew it all along! And I am flawed! But I'm cleaning up so well!" All I can say is...feelings man, feelings. 💯💔
left off the best part, my friend. "I am seeing in me now the things you swore you saw yourself." Well, okay, there are a lot of "best parts" to this song. But that line (and the one before it) is what pulls the whole chorus together, and subsequently the entire song.
This video just takes me back to the days when I was young and would spend weekends at my grandparents' house, and damn near every time I was there they would always show Spider Man 2 on TV, and I would watch it every fucking time with no hesitation lmao. Simpler times man. My favorite Spider Man movie ever and my favorite superhero movie of all time, just timeless
Song came out when I was a senior in high school. This song bring so much memories. If only I could go back the time, I would tell my friends whom I never got to see them again after I left high school how much I love & cherish the moments with them and I think about them every now and then :'(
Just wanna say... Love this song, love this video, love this movie, love this band, love Tobey as spidey. It's been 16 years and it's still one of my favorite comic book movies of all time.
Today 15 December 2021. Spiderman No Way Home first day release on theater, but i declare the spiderman from Sam Raimi and Tobey Maguire version is the best spiderman ever
The Spiderman movie featured in this song is much better than the Amazing Spiderman Reboot. Kids today should still be watching the old film cause its more worth watching than the new one, and it does look new too, its made in 2001 or 2002 I think.

This song is about how a boy hoping for something good to come along. He's regretful of screwing things up with this gril he's in love with and see’s that he had a chance but didn't take it and should have at least tried. He thinks of himself as sick and being wrong and right at the same time. Being wrong about the girl not liking him but right about taking a chance. He's trying to clean up for her but lives his life because if he does he can get another chance and still be able to live his life. He's seeing the things that the girl saw and didn't want to be bothered with a changing. He motivates himself to being with her. Then he kisses her and he doesn't want the momenet to end and finally he takes his second chance and gets with her. Yet his hope tangles on a string he plans to make it work. Meaning his hope is thin but the little bit of hope he wanted is still there even though it took so long it was worth it.
Oh God, here I am dec 2021 after watched Spiderman no way home. It's so memorable to see Tobey again as Spidey and then remember this great song. It's feel sad :(
Seriously. I was sixteen when this came out. Just turned 30 this year. But somehow, this still feels fresh to me. I think I've just reached that age where I can be nostalgic without allowing myself to consider the years between.
Wow the comments are so old. I just came back to say that this song brings back soo many memories of me watching Spider-man every single day before going to sleep when I was a kid and listening to this song. Wish those days can come back
I run in sorrow sometimes. The lord says a house of mourning is sometimes better than a house of rejoicing. Thank you dashboard confessionals for your accompaniment in all our lives
Until early 2006 I think people used to express feelings more than we do today. Maybe because of all the social media we have today. I miss those days. People born in this era may not feel it because they dont need it and its absolutely fine. But for people from my generation will miss those days because we can see the difference.
Man, It brings a tear to my eye when MARVEL STUDIOS saved Spiderman from the darkness of SONY. I hear this song every time as a reminder that Spiderman will be in great hands from now on.
The only reason why Spider-Man 3 flopped because Sony went and forced Raimi to add Venom and Sandman to the film when it was just supposed to be about Harry being the New Goblin. Heck, even Vulture was already planned to be the one for 3 but Sony just had to go and mess Raimi's work and force the poor man to do things their way and not his way. RIP Spider-Man 4.

very, very cool story. The lyrics are just so universal for those finally picking themselves up.
Thanks for sharing that story! Very cool! Inspiration is powerful

JustinKC97 Yeah I understand. I'm 17 right now and I was born in April
MikeHunt I'm 18 and agree to your first comment :). Just watched Spiderman again and searching for this. It was great

MikeHunt Can't stop; Won't stop.
Words cannot describe how much I miss the 2000s, it was quite a decade growing up as a kid and there will never be another decade just like that
It was probably one of the best decades. The peak before everything went down with social media.
@@thaistomp so true...
@@thaistomp There was just the right amount of technology to keep people connected, but not enough to consume their lives. Perfectly balanced
@@EthanRomgreat explanation. I just returned to my old 2000s technology habits and it has decreased my phone usage

Not to mention that Spider-Man 2 has the best soundtrack of the trilogy
@@sugaryheaven4089 that's facts

I was never a fan of this band but this song's lyrics fit the story and mythos of Spider-Man perfectly.
That’s why they chose it for Spider-Man 2 💯

Him:
*"Uuuugh my back"*
And now you get to see him again!
I love these angsty jams. Reminds me of the gold old days.
I was turning 5 listening to this song as I had a spiderman birthday party and it's still one of my favorite songs ever
I was 4? I was insane about the movie! Superheroes was a huge part of my life, and still is.
Maybe it's just me, but whenever I see Peter Parker bowling it down the street at 0:44 it always brings a smile to my face :)

Hope dangles on a string
Like slow-spinning redemption
Winding in and winding out
The shine of it has caught my eye
And roped me in
So mesmerizing so hypnotizing
I am captivated
I am
Vindicated
I am selfish
I am wrong
I am right, I swear I'm right
Swear I knew it all along and
I am flawed
But I am cleaning up so well
I am seeing in me now the things you swore you saw yourself
So clear like the diamond in your ring
Cut to mirror your intention
Oversized and overwhelmed
The shine of which has caught my eye
And rendered me so isolated
So motivated
I am certain now that
I am
Vindicated
I am selfish I am wrong
I am right, I swear I'm right
Swear I knew it all along and
I am flawed
But I am cleaning up so well
I am seeing in me now the things you swore you saw yourself
So turn up the corners of your lips
Part them and feel my fingertips
Trace the moment, fall forever
Defense is paper thin
Just one touch and I'd be in too deep now
To ever swim against the current
So let me slip away
So let me slip away
So let me slip away
So let me slip against the current
So let me slip away (4x)
Vindicated
I am selfish I am wrong
I am right, I swear I'm right
Swear I knew it all along
And I am flawed, but I am cleaing up so well
I am seeing in me now the things you swore you saw yourself
Slight hope
It dangles on a string
Like slow spinning redemption
