I made an inventory list and took a picture of it. Then made an album called rulers. Such a help if I’m out and see one I think I need. I did this after a couple of duplicates. Don’t want to spend $ that way. 😜😜
I have just purchased a ruler holder. The wooden holder for 5 rulers. Can't wait to use it. I usually just stack them against a box of fabric, this will be better. Thanks! Denise
I'm glad that I am not the only one who has multiples of the same item when it comes to crafts. I have set up one sister and one daughter with extra rulers, patterns and fabrics let alone sewing machines. Thanks for your info. I just reorganized my craft room and used 2 gallon bags to sort all my rulers.
I have a Craftsman double rolling tool box....great drawer storage for rulers, scissors/rotary cutters etc. now, I realize I need an inventory list. Thank you!
For a future show, walk us through using various rulers. It may be helpful insights to determining when buying a new ruler is necessary and when multi-purposing works fine. I’m a recent newcomer to quilting, and I’m trying to decide where best to spend/invest.
I use the Command hooks with the metal skinny hook to hang my most used rulers on the side of my cutting table - especially good for hanging a few of the really large squares!
I love the idea of a ruler inventory. I often find myself with duplicates. I usually gift these to friends who are just learning to quilt. But I love the idea of knowing exactly what I have and where. Thanks so much for sharing.
I'm in the process of reconstructing my sewing area. In my past sewing life my rulers where here and there This time around I'm making sections for rulers and love your categories. Thanks for the hints.😸🐝😷
I am still in the organizing phase of my new sewing and crafting space so this was helpful! So far I have 2 drawers.... 1 smaller for my small rulers and a bigger long one for all others. ❤️
Love your inventory list. I have talked to myself about an Excel list, and after watching this video, I will definitely do this. It will also help as a quick reference to not order duplicates!
This is great. As a new quilter, I also record on my inventory what the ruler can be used for; e.g., squaring up HSTs, square in square, economy block, etc. I have so many (I’m a gadget nut) and have overlooked them at times when using them would have simplified the task.
Thank you for the tips and ideas. I keep all my ruler instructions in a plastic file pocket with a hook & loop closure. I also use the ruler racks like yours. I need a better system for my large square rulers (right now there in a file folder storage rack). My small specialty rulers in a clear plastic storage bin with a cover. I'm considering a pretty framed peg board to hang my rulers from. BJ
BJ7481 I did that. I got a foam core that had a pretty frame. I added hooks from the back, and I hang all my rulers on it. It hangs on the wall to the right of my cutting table.
I would love a list of your rulers & templates (is that possible?) I think there are many I don't know about because my most common thought is "but how do you make that shape?" Followed by "but how do you get it even?".....a list would be super helpful 😊
I have found a fabric-covered hanging file folder that can stay on my cutting table. The tabs name the ruler contained in each folder and the instructions are easily stored WITH the ruler. Of course, this works best for rulers or templates 8x10 or smaller.
Great idea to make a ruler inventory list - need to do that! Also, I never know where to put the ruler instructions - need to put them in a special file. Great video on ruler storage. Your organization videos are the best!
Can you post your ruler inventory sheet so I can get a visual of how you have created it? Thank you! Also do you designate them by their brand name, ie olfa? Creative grids? Etc?
Love your videos. Please help- storage or organizing for patterns? I know if they are downloads stored on computer. Fine but what about the hard copies. I need to be able to locate fast but store nicely. 😘
Hi Sherri. Thank you for the ruler storage video I gave a question, about your cutting table. How high is it? How high should a cutting table be. Thank you.
Juanita Hooker, countertop height is good. Then you don’t have to bend over. I happened to find a wooden tavern table (countertop height) on clearance @ a local Value City Furniture store, a few years ago, for $50. Its 4.5’ x 3’. Plus it has a self storing leaf that makes it 4.5’ sq. Some others have put two ikea dressers back to back and put their cutting mat on top. I wanted to do this, but no ikea here w/in 6 hours. Ck the height on them. But the great thing about the dressers is all those drawers for fabric and ruler storage!
Thank you Sherri. You mentioned rulers vs templates. I was hoping you'd show what was in the box. I'm not well-versed templates. Maybe I dint really know what you mean by template. Would you do a short video on this?
Mary-Ann Z. Reynolds Think of a template as a pattern that is made out of acrylic so you can use your rotary cutter to cut around it and not damage the pattern. Example you can purchase templates for the Apple-core, Double wedding ring, Log cabin, etc quilts. Specially rulers could maybe be your rulers you use for free motion quilting. Or one of the special rulers might be that ruler that lets you run the rotary cutter through slots.
Thank you for your Ruler/Template storage insight, very helpful and yes it can get unruly very easily. Have one question. I love your work/cutting table(s) that the ruler drawer is in. Where did you purchase those? Thanks again for all the great information, keep it coming.
I’m a ruler junkie too. So many rulers. Thank you.
Your not in the boat 🚣🏽♂️ alone! LOL!
Guilty here too! Lol

Scrapmaster ruler is one of my favorites!
I use the Command hooks with the metal skinny hook to hang my most used rulers on the side of my cutting table - especially good for hanging a few of the really large squares!
I do this as well Lynn ! no room in my sewing space for stand up holders, It works really well for all my bigger rulers.
I have no counter space to spare either
Thank you so much for sharing. Love your organization tips.Being organised allows more time for sewing .
Your work space is beautiful! That work tabletop is wonderful.
Wonderful ideas, thank you.

Great storage ideas. Thanks, Sherri.
I think your ruler inventory is a great idea. I have a lot of rulers and templates, and it's easy to lose track.
Thanks for the awesome information! I have so many rulers thanks to the Sew Sampler Box 🧡🤦♀️😂
Thanks Sherri! I am really enjoying your videos and podcast.

I have a lot of rulers as well, but not as many as you. Whatever can make cutting easier, I’m in. Thank you..
Thank you.... I have purchased duplicate rulers and templates ( so expensive). Great ideas
Thank you Sherri, very informative and will definitely use this to organize my rulers 😊

THANKS will use some of these for my storage
I use a large stand and a drawer. I like the list idea. It seems as though it would be quite helpful. Tfs. 👏🏻💕👏🏻
I love the cutting table where did you get that if I might ask. Looks great and the drawers are most helpful.
Hi. Thanks for the ideas. I also use trash cans from Dollar store for my tall rulers.
These are great ideas. Thanks!
for my specality rulers with instructions, I fold the instructions around the ruler and clip it with a wonder clip.
Kay Whaley super idea!
Great idea.
I download my Creative ruler instructions to my device.
Jayne Bromley What! They have them online?

She also mentioned that templates are something you trace around for cutting out. So, they may be cardboard, etc.
I’ve always wanted to make a quilt
Thanks Sherri for the tips! What were those circle rulers?
Lovely! Where did you get the wall unit behind you? I need to organize my room as such.
I nailed a few nails onto the inside of my fabric cabinet and hang up my larger rectangular rulers there.
I wish you had shared your Ruler Inventory List sample.
Wow, you have a lot of rulers
What cutting table is that and where can I get one??
Thank you for your Ruler/Template storage insight, very helpful and yes it can get unruly very easily. Have one question. I love your work/cutting table(s) that the ruler drawer is in. Where did you purchase those? Thanks again for all the great information, keep it coming.
