Music video by ...And You Will Know Us By The Trail Of Dead performing Another Morning Stoner. (C) 2001 Interscope Geffen (A&M) Records A Division of UMG Recordings Inc. 2004 Interscope Records
Good luck, I'm looking for someone that love Mr. Bungle, Pixies, Smashing Pumpkins, Modest Mouse, QotSA.. Yeaaaaah. At least one good band so I can seduce them to even greener fields.
Right. Their song writing influences mine big time but I don't know any of their songs either. Someone did a good guitar cover of 'crowning of a heart', look it up.
16year old me walked into record store 20 years ago and asked the guy behind the counter what is the music in the background. I decided to spend all my pocket money on this album straight away.
That bassline... the vocals... those drums... the guitar riffs... god I love this band. Found them in college 2003 and was immediately haunted forever!
Same here but prob 2004. I needed a new album, went to small shop. Remembered a talented indie loving friend said they were good and it had cool art so I ended up leaving with them. Turns out I had names wrong. Friend had never heard of them. Cd grew and grew on me
I've had this guitar riff stuck in my head for years and could never remember who sang this song. I tried recreating the guitar riff from memory and turned on Soundhound from my phone. It actually recognized it and finally, after like 15 years, I've found this song.
spotify came thru for me. i was listening to it a minute thinking it was a song i'd heard recently but realized it wasn't liked on spotify and was like ohhhh, it must have been forever ago that i was listening to this but it was like embedded in my brain. never would have found it again
This song has definitely stood the test of time, but this band has certainly remained underrated. These guys were a very important part of my youth and expanded my musical boundaries into territories I didn't know existed. Much love to ...Trail of Dead!
I remember seeing Trail of the Dead at Sapphire Supper Club in Orlando in 1999 performing the most amazing show. It was so loud, violent and beautiful all at the same time. One of the most memorable small venue shows I can recall. I miss them days.
I was in highschool when it came out. Over 2 decades later, It's still very relevant, despite the changes in life and how we evolve. The song still hits the core!!
My good friend Matt showed me this song a year before he killed himself. I couldn't remember the name of it until a moment ago. Sent chills up my spine when that first note was hit..
Micah, it's the result of playing flat notes with sharp notes with hi energy...gives that feeling of being lost in what should be a familiar place...this song has the same exact affect on me as you describe.
Best time of my life, 23 living in a hotel in the hills, secluded, but used to go to town and party. A girl I met and went to the cinema with showed me this and Dr manhattan
saw them last night in Norman oklahoma. got to meet all of them got a set list signed by the whole band..they were so good they played this song last and it was super intense
2002...fresh college grad, got fired from my 1st job, got a gig at my local record store. Hip hop was getting stale, Electronic music was peaking. Picked this up on a whim and fell in love instantly. To this day, no other bands have made me feel that adrenaline fueled dopamine rush raw punk energy as trail of dead and atdi. They definitely rank up there as one of the musical heroes of our generation.
@@lisaanderson4379 what a coincidence but I was just listening to this vinyl yesterday. Yes, I saw them at a small venue when they toured with Mogwai around 2003. It was still their days of being wild, playing sauced up and breaking instruments lol. So crazy that we're now in middle age. The time flew by.
Yes, it sums up my feelings about the majority of people and their relationship with music. Songs like this (and lots of others by TOD) are simply a day changer to me. However my mood turns out when having a rough day, music like this makes me carry on!
Thank you MTv2. I would have never known about this band and Black Rebel Motorcycle Club if it wasn't for that channel. Back when they played 95% music videos and MTv played around 35-45% music videos in the early 2000's. Also, back in 2002 during the good ol' Windows XP days and Google was fairly new and very reliable, Justin Chancellor (bassist of TOOL) had a small record shop in either L.A. or San Francisco and he picked the albums he liked that he wanted to sell. You could check out the inventory on what albums were for sale. This album was one of them. TOOL was and is my favorite band. I always thought that was super cool though.
This Band is Amazing! I love their breakdowns and his voice and emotions in every song, one of the best albums ever, who ever dislike this doesn't know real music....
First head this song in 2004 after getting an "XBOX Xhibition" DVD with the console. I immediately resonated with their sound. Amazing music, wonderfully nostalgic.
you 2? Lol, I am 33 and I still love it as much as I did when i was teen! And the funny part, our lives are so different as an adult, but the song remains legend on our life soundtrack!
These guys are talented beyond words and more humble than you could believe. Sent them a request back in the days of MySpace to play at our wedding and got a response, if I was a richer man I could have had trail of the dead play at my wedding. Still stoked to even have heard from them, Conrad you are a legend for responding to our crazy request!
I remember when I moved out of my parents' house and stayed with some friends in Seattle for a while, listening to this album in a shared house stoned as hell with a bunch of people I didn't even know, on one of my first nights on my own. It was one of the first times I had ever heard some really good "underground" alt music - usually if it was not on MTV or the radio I probably hadn't heard it. I don't know any way to describe the feeling of hearing this album other than that it was strange music, shared with strange people, but I loved it. It almost seems sad to listen to it now since those days of wonder are gone. But for many years there I beat the steering wheel to shit in my vehicle cranking up Trail of Dead
My best friend in high school in atlanta, we were seniors in 2004, his brother worked at google in seattle at the time. His brother flew home to atlanta for the week to be with family and hung out with us (his bro and I) in his basement (which was like a big computer lan center since their dad was big into IT networking at that time). My friend and I were big pot heads at that time. My friends seattle google bro showed me this band (and this song) when I was high in his basement playing video games. I thought his bro was basically the coolest guy on the planet coz I'd never met a super nerd quite like him. He wasn't plain in any way, he was actually incredibly cool and unique while being a super nerd (this was 2004)... He sort of inspired me and I ended up listening to this band a lot. I don't know if the band was just bigger in Seattle or something, or maybe theres just people with better taste in music that live in seattle.
I remember when this was new in the early 2000s this really cool stoner skater kid in senior year was wearing a Trail of Dead shirt and my friend and I looked them up. Here I am 20 years later and this album has never left my head. Thanks Scott!
That line is a great part of my life. I always thought I was the only one when I used to scream it at the top of my lungs. -Plus Why is a song a world for me? Glad to see I was wrong.
Top 5 favourite songs of all time, every time I hear it I get shivers down my spine and a sense of melancholy that I will not hear music this good again.
I know I have played this song over and over ever since it came out. Surely that means something. That it is for me as well, an all time favourite. Video is great too
I fairly recently just found out about this band but they've already become one of my current favorites Wish I could have learned about them sooner, I've never heard anyone talk about them before, but I'm glad I'm here now.
I only found out today (via Wikipedia) that Trail Of Dead apparently broke up earlier this year. Still, to this day, one of the most unforgettably amazing live bands I've ever seen: at the Livid Festival in Brisbane in 2002 while touring the stunning mash-up of Fugazi, the Who, Sonic Youth and Genesis that was this album. This track, in particular, is always like standing in a shower of goosebumps. Stunning for all time.
I actually found this band on a list of worst band names page, and i was curious so i went on there wikipedia page. The first thing i saw was that they were from Texas so i thought it was a country band and was just about to close then i saw it was Austin, Texas so i looked at it and saw it was Indie Rock, then i came here. This tune was just randomly on my computer. Dunno where it came from, but man am I in love. It's hell, like, nostalgic and proper. Just beautiful. THANKS, WHOEVER, FOR THIS JAM!
15 years or more and I still love this tune. Reminds me of those halcyon days of first going to university. I believe the band made some negative comments about the European continent during an early tour which seems to have killed their career outside the US, unfortunately. This tune is still a belter. Forever coming of age...
hands down, best damn band ever......don't even know how to count the ways that this band, their music, their live shows and their incredible fan friendliness have saved my ass and my sanity beyond belief.........long may they rock!
I remember this video woke me up outta my sleep on that late nite Mtv2 show and i watched this video and passed out and when i woke up i found every song i could get my hands on. They had such a great sound on this album. Alt rock should have stayed in this lane.
I just saw them on Australia's ABC Rage tonight. I must've just woken up after a 20year sleep as I've never seen them before. I'm kicking myself. Freakin' awesome song. Such a powerhouse of a band. I'm so upset with myself.... :-(
Definitely on the list of favorite bands. The first time I heard them was on a music video show but it wasn’t MTV. I fell in love with them after hearing seeing the video for Another Morning Stoner. One of my favorite bands that came out of the early 2000 emo scene. Excellent track that blends hardcore parts and slower melodic parts. Was lucky to see them once and it was a great show.
thetruth2545 this screams hipster more than anything else that can scream hipster jk I troll, but based on this comment I’m assuming you know some great music? Any suggestions?
This band stayed true to themselves without changing their sound to complete crap like most bands who get a taste of success. I have nothing but good things to say about this amazing band. True art!
i grew up with this' even bought the album as it was a piece of history at the time! great piece for all the guys and girls that didn't get their shit together! It's all too depressing when the booze is on for the memories of a life many could have seen in a positive social circle,,,,just a dream!! what is that connects? it's everything! not everyone can be the musical artist!
Jason used to make my coffee every day at the bookstore in Austin, where we worked. He was an interesting fellow behind those giant silver shades, solid fella. Good tunes and pretty decent barista.
I've been waiting my whole adult/teen life to meet someone who knows this bloody song...
Good luck, I'm looking for someone that love Mr. Bungle, Pixies, Smashing Pumpkins, Modest Mouse, QotSA.. Yeaaaaah. At least one good band so I can seduce them to even greener fields.
Seen them 13 times live.....best damn band ever!!
Nice to meet you. Seen them 3 times. Fucking awesome band. So that's four of us you've met now :)

One of the greatest and most underrated songs ever
I actually got stoned and hooked on this band
There are 2 types of people in this world:
1) People who recognize this song as having the best intro in rock history.
2) Liars.
Spirit desire...we will fall..

One of the greatest guitar riffs ever conceived.

This song is brillant!
The CD is brillant!
Thank you! I dig it so much
Oh I don't know about that but yeah probably.
Every time i hear it I can just imagine some Flautist from the 1200's dancing to it
Heartful of Stone by the Yardbirds influenced this.
This song has definitely stood the test of time, but this band has certainly remained underrated. These guys were a very important part of my youth and expanded my musical boundaries into territories I didn't know existed. Much love to ...Trail of Dead!
Still hits hard after all these years.
2024....still in my playlist
2003 was a good year. I graduated from high school. I had the whole world ahead of me and this tune as my soundtrack.
One of my all time favorite songs and have never met anyone else who knows of it, source tags and codes is classic start to finish.
I remember seeing Trail of the Dead at Sapphire Supper Club in Orlando in 1999 performing the most amazing show. It was so loud, violent and beautiful all at the same time. One of the most memorable small venue shows I can recall. I miss them days.
One of the most under-appreciated bands of all time.
The guitarwork in this song is very Sonic Youth.
Fantastic song. Emotional without being schmaltzy and angry without being overbearing. A really mystical, haunting rock masterpiece.
The whole album is a rock masterpiece.
I agree. this song defined my taste in music, in an era where most black folk were listening to RandB.
2 decades later it's the world for me.
Come back to this and it doesn't age at all everytime
It’s quite an elegant recording
@@marth_6126 #1 in my book!
Perfect album. Loved it since high school & i’m pushing 40. Not gatekeeping, just radically grateful it exists.
I fucking swear to god this song never gets old. so fucking majestic.

One of the best bands ever. Uncompromising rock at its poetic core
man i grew up this band.. so many memories, "for not seeing heaven like you would see, why is a song the world for me?"
this band is true love
Spotify digging led me back after 10+ years of lost memories. S/O don and viv you souls come to mind, hope you doing oka.

This song sounds like a mix between Relationship of Command era At the Drive-In, and Dirty era Sonic Youth
Anyone see any similarities?
Heavier SDRE with more drums
For sure
