I love how different the band members act on stage. The keyboard guy is doing like a '70's keyboardist head bob thing, the bassist is all mellow, singer changes with the mood of the song, and then there's the drummer who's in his own little world just fucking rocking out. amazing.

Even better live in concert, I saw them in NY back in 2012 back when they were making good music. The drummer literally looked like the personification of methamphetamine. His head didn't stop rocking for like 2.5-3hrs. His hair was long and it was all over the place, only saw his face for about 2 seconds in all that time

@@IFeelSoTongueTied no doubt, yeah I can't even recall which part of NY but they were hot on the heels of Neck of The Woods, it was a smaller venue. Packed. Selling shirts and vinyls up front. Brian came right toward the back at the end of the show to mingle with people and take pics. I could have talked to him but I didn't. It was a great show with a great friend who passed the following year....
The energy of the drummer really gets me into it.
Cheers to that! The 1-2 repetitive slamming sections are so simple, but so hard-played & somehow became my favorite part of this song.

I have truly loved this band ever since Carnavas was released. There are many reasons to love them. Tonight I want to praise their amazing drummer Christopher Guanlao - he not only attacks his instrument with unbridled passion and enough energy to put Animal to shame, but he also performs with precision, and a keen sense of what his bandmates are playing. He's truly a drummer's drummer (that's IMO ... although I'm not a drummer). He doesn't play with the complexity of, say, Neil Peart, but oft times all we need is pure energy and emotion. Guanlao delivers on so many levels on this album. I hope he still plays with such amazing passion. I hope to see them live this year.
Imagine this song with a so-so drummer. It would be a good song. It would not be a great song. Guanlao's percussion is the *fabric* that this song relies on for its greatness! Not only from his amazing machine gun attacks, but also his amazing cymbal work. It is pure joy to listen to his drumming ... and watch him in action too!

If you like that style of music, I suggest you dip your toes into the world of prog rock. Some of those songs are like 10-12 songs in one song. King Crimson, Yes, Pink Floyd (Animals especially), Rush, King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard, The Mars Volta, I could go on forever, I love Prog so much

I first heard this song on the radio in 2007 at a job in an industry I now despise. It was also the song to introduce me to Silversun Pickups. This discovery created one of the most memorable days of my time at the job (sad), and led me into a journey of alternative musical appreciation that I am forever grateful for. I heart SSPU and all their musings.

Used to listen to this all the time when i played tony hawk proving grounds as a kid not knowing what it was, yesterday i was emulating some ps2 games and remembered that old gem of a game, only to have this song play right at the start menu and instantly recalled it and had to look it up, now just finding out what it is i feel whole ☺️
