    Calvin Ridley almost always getting lumped in with the "30 year old WR, let's begin worrying'" group is a bit myopic. Yeah he will be 30 at the very end of the season, but he's missed time for non-football related things ever since HS, about 2 years or so worth. Now some is due to issues he caused himself, which could still be it's own concern, but the guy only has about 4 years worth of NFL starts. I think the lack of wear and tear here is important.
    I don't think they gave a 4 year contract to a guy who is likely to be about to fall off a cliff. Watch last year's tape all the way to the end of the season...he's not lost a step.

      They said Hopkins had fallen off the cliff when we signed him last year and he showed out so I'm not overly worried about when these guys think our receivers are gonna decline. It seems like the whole narrative around receivers aging is suddenly getting lumped in with running backs that hit a wall at 30 and that's just not how it goes for most receivers.

    That’s crazy!!! They all gonna be over 30 at the end of the season, blah blah blah. Over 2700 yards of production just from those 3 nursing home players, just roll them out their in their wheel chairs. And Boyd is still reliable, so many bengals fans continue to show love for TB83 and didn’t want to let him go, fans know more then Anal-ist. I’m done with the knee for Sneed. Every player on the field for every team has a knee. If KC had retained him it would have been an elite off season move with zero talk about a freaking knee. At least got a smidge of love from PFF. So thanks guys.

    Calvin ridley prolly has 3 seasons left. I mean, he took essentially 2 years off, so I'll say he's like a 27 yo receiver. Nuke had over 1000 yds, but he's definitely toward the end of his career. I really wanted us to grab a WR in this draft class in the mid rounds. Maybe jha'quan can develop into a slot replacement for boyd. I dunno. Looks like they want to put vets around levis to see if he is the dude. Watching every titans game last season, I was heartened by the fact that he was able to make completions, any completion, behind that o line with only 1 legit receiver. I'm actually excited for this year.

    • @buchaneb
      @buchaneb 2 місяці тому

      I think it’s less about seeing if Levis is the dude and more about how many holes we had to fill and how to fill them. Had we re-signed Autry like we wanted to, we likely would have passed on Ridley and drafted a WR in the 2nd. Levis had nothing to do with the decision IMO - you need to surround your qb with talent regardless of who is playing qb.

    we heard the season prior that Hopkins would be done if he landed in Tennessee and was able to get a 1000 yrs with a OL who could not pass protect to save their lives, the most conservative playcall in NFL, uncertainty at QC and a bunch of #4 Wrs... He's no longer able to beat double or triple teams like before but he's should be fine as a 1B, much like Riddley who will be in a better role than he was in Jacksonville. They have a good 2-3 years in front of them with a young QB not afraid of the challenge

    While Levis is on a rookie contract bringing in Ridley and Boyd makes sense. If he develops this season because of surrounding him with 3 -4 options instead of just 1 D-Hop then he'll need to do a better job at finding the open receiver / post snap processing. Levis has the big arm and aggressiveness that can result in a big play but also throws a lot or turnover worthy plays. If he can improve his short to intermediate throw timing, accuracy and throwing guys open, he'll be great.
    On the defensive improving the secondary with Sneed, Awuzie that should develop press man coverage under Dennard Wilson and allow more time for Landry and Simmons to get home.

And he also missed all that time being suspended and did nothing but train. So he doesn’t have the hits and miles on his body. He’s still on the rise for his talent imo.

    Our receiver group isn’t set up for the future but that’s kind of the point. We have three guys that are all great receivers right now (unless Hopkins has taken a step back) which is what we need right now so we can see what we have in Levis and not waste any time wondering if he’s the guy. He’s either the guy, and in that case we’re going all in anyway for a Super Bowl while he’s on his rookie deal. Or he’s not, and we wasted as little time as possible figuring it out. If he doesn’t succeed with this team (I’ll give him a bit of grace at RT) he’s not it.
