@@user-sl2od1dn8v The villain did not even come close to the feel of "old classic villains". Plus, his tragic backstory makes him more of a tragic hero, not a villain. Asha's DESIRE to get her grandfather's wish WAS THE SETTING STONES ONE THE ENTIRE PLOT. She never changed throughout the movie other than "oooo magic WAND". Also, Magnifico says this to Asha about her grandfather's wish "The wish is too vague. It could cause a revolt" AND IT FRICKEN HAPPENED.
AND get this, if you even LOOKED at the concept art, there was a thought to the Queen and King BOTH BEING EVIL VILLAINS. Them both being the villains would have payed homage to the original villains plus more interesting dyamics when it came to the fight scenes. This is more of a slap in the face than anything.
And nobody is complaining, everyone is just disappointed that THIS was the movie that "celebrated" the 100 years of Disney, when in reality it is nothing but a soulless cash grab baiting of million's of people's nostalgia.
And people are UPSET BECAUSE when you compare it to the concept art, to what we got, you just feel immense disappointment and WISH you could have something better.
Also, PEOPLE HAVE BEEN SATISFIED WITH DISNEY. You know Encanto? Right? Encanto was a really great movie and a lot of people enjoyed it, including myself. And it isn't nostalgia that made me like the movie, it was the WRITING that made the story worth telling.
      One last note.
People did not like this movie because of the flawed writing it presented + AWFUL songs that stood out to a ton of people that made most of them not enjoy the movie.
Also funny enough, it isn't out on Disney + yet, and its so obvious to why. They are trying to squeeze as much money as they can out of this movie.
People can enjoy this movie, but it doesn't mean that movies should not be criticized. Because if people don't, companies would not learn from their mistakes and continue to push out sloppy movies. You saying "people are complaining"? They are stating their feelings on the movie and how disappointed they felt. And *EVERYBODY COMPLAINS ABOUT SOMETHING.*
So when Disney creates something like this? OF COURSE THEY ARE GOING TO BECAUSE IT IS DOGWATER.
And it is so disappointing for saying that we are ungrateful. Cause guess what? *THIS IS THE 100 YEAR ANIVERSARY*.
EVERYONE HAS THE RIGHT TO BE ANGRY AND COMPLAIN ABOUT IT BECAUSE IT ISN'T LIVING UP TO EXPECTATIONS.
And dont say "oh thats the only reason why people dont like this movie" or something along that line, BECAUSE IT IS UNTRUE.
      Also, tiny little thing.
Your complaining right now. So what's your escuse?
And yes, you are stating your feelings, but you don't just call out people complaining when yo yourself are doing it yourself.
I'm sorry for going on this long, but you and a ton other people need to realize that there is more to everyone's disappointment. There are layers to it, and you need to look at their perspective as well. Understand where they are coming from. If you see it as complaining, then you aren't looking deep enough.

if they are boring, how come people talked about Encanto? You said it is boring and you said yourself that you are right, but also saying that people wont rewatch it or talk about it? When it is the opposite?
And it is not just Encanto, I mentioned it as a recent example. And to argue that it is still rewatched, my Lil Siblings plus a few of my friends still rewatch the movie because they enjoy it. A more later example that is still rewatched to this day would be the Little Mermaid (the og not the remake). That movie was fun and enjoyable. I personally just rewatched it and I'm glad I did.
Also saying that the concept art was bad, how about you take that and look through the "complainers" perspective and see where they are coming from. Its isn't overated. They just saw the potential of the concepts and is upset that they didn't deliver. Also, I am not represeting the fandom like you said EXACTLY: "you people who says represents the people prove more toxic and hippocrit then many anime fandoms out there."
Its not true? I'm only stating my thoughts on the matter, and you saying that is wrong to do so, well what are you doing right now? Plus, I am looking through the perspective and coming to my conclusions on the matter and like I said, stating my thoughts and opinions on it.
      Also, your:
"None of you would had make a better movie, i dout the previous version of the movie would had been good"
The creators of the film could have explored this idea, like so many people of the fandom are doing. Exploring the ideas that the creators of the film did not do. Hell, it didn't have to be a romance. It could just be a wholesome friendship between Asha and Star Boy. I respect that you enjoyed the movie. I even said it myself that it is okay to enjoy it as well.
And yes, having faith in the next Disney film is fine! Its okay with that. You also have to understand though that not everyone does. And yes, they will have high expecations because its the 100 year anniversary. It might not seen like a big deal, but you have to remember that this is the company that started animation to get to the way it is today through Snow White, and several other films that could have destroyed the company if it flopped back then, but never did.
And there is no perfect writing. Perfect writing does not exist. The films I mentioned of course have flaws in the writing, but it can be overlooked and be enjoyable. You might be asking, then "why are people not doing the same to this movie?"
As I mentioned in my last comment, the flaws stood out to them more, making it less enjoyable.

I think the reason the movie feels like it was made by ai is that it wasn't built from the ground up with everyone's involvement.
The person who wrote the music was given a very brief idea of the synopsis of the movie and wrote a single song. Like ai, they had minimal context to work with, so it comes across as weird. Then the movie was built around the song (if i understood correctly), and all the other music had to be written in a very short timeframe without them knowing what the movie was going to actually be.
Then, to top that off, meddling from above (you know, the people who aren't actually involved in movie making but get money for movies made) kept cropping up and changing any good ideas left. They planned on star being human, then being a star that could talk, then just a star, and you can find concept stuff for each level that sounds and looks so much better than the end product. This also means at least one song lost its context (the love song between asha and the star becomes asha and magnifico singing about the wishes) that sets the wrong tone because they didn't change more than a few words.
Ai takes existing works and references it to generate something relatively new, but lacks context and doesn't retain what it'd already said. Wish the movie was a project where a lot of people were missing context, trying to fit a lot of references in, and loses its plot by forgetting what was supposed to have just happened.
*That* is why it feels like ai. And when you have people doing things out of their comfort (ie, a pop songwriter trying to write songs for a historically broadway-styled movie, most likely told to mimic someone who worked on broadway music and had hits that sounded more pop like the music in encanto), you're going to have disjointed rhythm/syllables and stresses/and rhymes ("...star/here i are", "...face/i get my genes from outer space" are some examples)

This could work much better as a story from Magnifico's point of view, where he's a tragic hero corrupted by dark magic while trying to save his kingdom and forever trapped in a mirror while a young woman runs the kingdom he built into the ground as she has no idea how to run a kingdom or handle granting wishes, and she eventually turns to him in the mirror for help, setting him up at the magic mirror, and Asha starts to lose it from the pressure, going evil herself and leaving the kingdom to go marry into another one. She takes the mirror with her, and bam surprise prequel. The seven dwarves are the descendants of her friends, living out in the woods after the kingdom fell to ruin. I know it's a bit fanfictiony, but it's better than wish was. Or it could another route, where the king is corrupted by dark magic and the city turns on him and Asha realizes he's been corrupted and uses the Star or whatever to heal him and they then work together to grant wishes with her compassion covering for his strict views. It'd be kinda the same no real villain but it'd be more nuanced than this stuff.
King Magnifico does indeed clarify that the people give him their wishes willingly, and erases their memories so they're not burdened by any regrets or anything. I don't agree that he was always an asshole. That's just what they use to justify his incredibly quick turn to villain

    • @doodelli
      @doodelli 3 місяці тому

Still, we can all agree it sounds contrived. The modern usage of ”excitatory” is almost exclusively reserved for scientific mechanisms; not a person’s emotions. Doesn’t help that the stress is off on both ”allegory” (alleg-O*-ry instead of A*-llegory) and ”excitatory” (excitat-O*-ry instead of exc-I*-tatory) just so they will flow with ”origin story”. Creative exceptions can of course be made, but it’s hard to think of a single Disney musical lyric that bungles the stress of a word this much. The only one that comes to mind is ”Dec-A*-des of denial/Is simply why I’ll”, which is by far the weakest lyric in Be Prepared.

In fact, we COULD have had this other mage as a final villain. Magnifico becoming more like him due to his desperation through the film, Asha and his wife stop him and bring him back from the brink the last moment, but then this guy's like "ha-ha! you didn't think I'd let THAT happen!" And then maybe it turns out that he was Star-boy's cousin also or something and we can have a showdown. Actually, the problem with Kingdom of the Sun was that it wasn't working, fundamentally. They had too many things going on-- the prince and pauper story, but also Yzma's plot to snuff out the sun, but also the llama transformation, but also a few other plot threads, and the production management was kind of all over the place and there wasn't a very strong directorial vision. Either nobody was willing or nobody was able to prune it and streamline the ideas, so it managed to hobble along until the story rough was completed and presented to management and production, and what they watched was a bloated, baffling mess that clearly didn't know what it actually wanted to be. That was when they decided to pick one plot thread and focus on that, and it wound up morphing into a comedy.
It looks like Wish actually had the opposite problem-- they seem to have had a fairly solid idea for the original draft, with the King and Queen being an evil power couple who were collecting wishes for their own nefarious purposes. However, during production, they brought on more consultation, more voices, more opinions, trying to please everybody at once and ultimately watering down the idea until its original vision was lost.

A major issue with the lyrics is the meter - they’re not following a set and so will shove the start of one line onto the end of another making it sound as if it’s part of that line. The one you keep saying “felt this, no, I haven’t. I hope” is not meant to be together. It’s supposed to be “felt this, no, I haven’t.” With the next line being “I hope it would be all right to stay right here beside you” but they put pauses in weird spots making the lines that should go together be broken apart and making no sense because they’re now attached to a different line. The lyrics in all wishes songs do this constantly. They really needed to workshop the lyrics more to fit the beat and cadence that they wanted, instead of just forcing them to fit like they did.

The villain that was never meant to be.
Like imagine making the king the villain but hes never the villain.
    The King ≠ Villain
    Asha ≠ Hero
The king has built his kingdom from scraps, he has long worked at it for a long time and has most likely tried to return a wish back to someone before and may have caused unfortunate disappointment and issues in his early stages of building his kingdom.
And no duh he doesnt grant the "Bad wishes"
I swear Asha is so "Naive" to not understand the King has already considered all OPTIONS. Its that he's bearing the weight and burden of an entire kingdom and their wishes.
While dealing with his old traumatic past, then it doesnt help that his wife whom married him for years betrays him 😂😂
Only helped calm him down once, but at the end
She just doesnt care, no remourse.
Remember when we used to have remourse and care?
Fiona's father tho he was not a villain he did somethings bad by hiring puss to kill Shrek. By working with Fairy god mother to have Fiona drink the love potion in the tea, but he knew how bad it was that in the end his redemption arc was to just and block the fairy god mother's laser beam from her wand that deflects back to her. her father is turned back to his frog body, asking for forgiveness from his wife, daughter Fiona and son in law Shrek.
Also the book that said "Anyone who dwells in dark magic will be stuck in it an eternity" thats contradicted by the ending when The King Is looking to his wife for help

The worst part (as in best part for Magnifico's character) is when he is talking about his own wish. He wants nothing more than an apprentice. Someone who cares more about the good of all than their own selfish desires. Someone to take stewardship as he gets older and might not be able to rule properly. To keep the kingdom going after he's gone. His greatest desire, is to secure the future of the kingdom and it's people.
Dude is graying out already so he could be 50+ and nearing the end of his line. Might drop dead any day in this Medieval society. But Asha is too selfish to even listen. She's just drooling over her grandpa's basic wish. And you can see it on his face when she turns out to be like all the others, just selfishly greedily desiring things for her and her selfish greedy family! He is so disappointed in her. Not even a day went by without this apprentice candidate demanding a wish to be granted. To benefit herself and her family and NOBODY else. But he still looks at it and it's so vague. "Inspire the next generation"? Go write a book old man about how you took the easy way to getting your wish granted and never got it to inspire the next generation.
Cause that's all this is. It's insanely greedy selfish miserable people constantly begging and pleading with Magnifico to have their wishes granted. They could work for it. Grandpa could have practiced for 50 years, but he took the deal instead. Literally playing the wish lottery and being salty when he didn't win. Nobody is interested in what happens after he's gone. Asha doesn't care or have any desire to even consider what it means to grant someone's wish. She breaks in with the star and her ONLY goal is to grant her GRANDPA'S wish. None of the others! All she wants is for her and her own family to get what they want.

For me when I wrote a season 5 story to a popular video game series Telltale's The Walking Dead. I went full-out sinister villainous on my two villains in that story and neither one of them were 'redeemable' and I killed them off. One in particular as a revenge karma moment if you played the games. The other one, I made was going to burn Telltale's Violet's eye as a call back to Violet's fate in her capture route, and honestly, what should have happened in the game if you didn't save Violet in episode 2. Would have made stakes higher but that is a flaw I have with Violet. Even that..what I wrote felt more, I don't know, threatening than Manifco. Kind of like Frollo's level of sinister crimes. This is just such a bad movie. And the 'I'm a Star' what the living F. Are these songwriters 5 and can't speak proper English. I feel this whole story was made up of 4-year-olds and them retelling a dream they had. I agree with most, the original concepts is what this movie should have been. But Disney had to be catering to the sensitive people now who get offended too easily. I wish Diseny went back and made actual art, art. Like Hunchback, The Lion King, Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin, Brother Bear, Hercules, Lilo and Stitch(Lilo is Disney's first autistic main character), Treasure Planet, Pocahontas, Tarzan, etc. The golden years what made Diseny great.

I mean Spellbound is coming out this year, that film might become way worse than Wish!!! However when looking back at Wish, it was a hopeless effort from the very start

The images I’ve seen of it don’t look that exciting but hopefully the music will be better since it’s by Alan Menken himself.

Wait a second. When you said that, Disney canceled Nimona because they had gay in it, doesn’t Disney support gay like they do? That is sheer cognitive dissonance from Disney.

Some individual writers and creators who work for Disney support LGBTQ, but Disney as a corporation does not. They claim they do and will say so during pride month, but that’s literally so they can sell merch and make more money. They don’t actually give a shit. In fact I’m pretty sure they’ve given money to anti-LGBTQ organizations before.

I gotta be real and say this movie looks and feels like a Disney junior show.

Fun fact- my friends cousin voiced ashas friend with the glasses and the cane. She pointed out that not only are her cousin and the character both Asian, but also both disabled. HMMMMMM

It isn't super uncommon to design a character based on their voice actor.
