I can’t overstate how refreshing it is to have Rugirls be interviewed about THEIR LIVES and THEIR PASSIONS and not “would you go back on the show??? Do you have any behind the scenes tea??? Any drama with girls on your season???????” WGI national finals ‘19 was the best weekend of my life and it’s so inspiring to see someone talk about guard with the same reverence I have for the sport (of the arts☺️).

Love all of Maddy's interviews, but this one is so special. I appreciate her asking Latrice about being formerly incarcerated. They don't say it, but it really shows two things: A) how very broken, racist, and really anti-human our criminal justice is, and B) how much of a success story Latrice's is. She. Did. That.

I think the best part of the interviews with the queens who’ve been in the mainstream for a while is that you can tell they’ve gotten accustomed to the questions they expect to get, so Maddy’s deep cuts catch them especially off guard. I feel like I’ve learned more about Latrice from this interview than every episode of Drag Race she’s been on, it’s so good.
Exactly! It must be refreshing for the queens to be interviewed by someone who has clearly done her homework. It shows there was serious time and effort put in. And then to pair that with some wit and humor. The guests never saw Maddy coming!

No, I wasn't sold on what drag race showed me, but Maddy's interviews are THE BEST in the drag biz.
It's her style. Some queens are just not made for drag race. Maddy does very well with the one on one sattirical interviews.
A lot of people (including queens) looked down on Maddy for being straight, and I love how she has earned her audience with her talents and dry humor without the need to fight to defend herself. She just showed her value and people loved her for it. I can’t wait to watch this episode! 💕
For real! I was skeptical at first but Maddy didn't get defensive, owned who she is with a couple fun nods and winks on her season, and let her talent speak for itself. Respect.

I hope that Maddy keeps this show independent and doesn’t get bought out by WOW. WOW would want full editorial control, so we wouldn’t get some of the most interesting stories like Latrice’s prison details, Rock’s escort work to pay for her drag race package, or Jade’s stint on Dragula.

My favorite part of Maddy’s interviews are when the guests gag at the research she’s done. “WHERE DID YOU GET THIS?????” “HOW DO YOU KNOW THAT?????” It never gets old lol
Listening to Latrice describe how she was treated by society after her time is prison is SO important. All our talk of “debt to society” and “rehab” means nothing if that same society makes it next to impossible for a person to get even the crappiest of jobs to take care of themselves. I think I was always aware of this sad situation, but hearing from someone who DID manage to recover, the story is much more impactful.
I got caught up in the system when I was younger and I'm a pretty little white girl with a family who supports me and it was so hard to get out. I can't imagine how impossible it is for people who don't have "pretty privilege" or stable family (I always thought we were kinda poor until I realized how privileged I was to grow up with a family home and car) I have every privilege imaginable and it was extremely difficult so definitely props to latrice ❤
Drag artists take the ugliest parts of their past trauma and turn it around into something beautiful and empowering. That's been the consistent life of all Maddy's guests, that's why these queens are amazing at their craft.

Maddy interviews in a way that she dives deep into the person behind the makeup. Once these queens get famous a lot of their interviews become surface level and are usually just about drag race

I found this very moving. Latrice went to jail for a really minor offence which shows how corrupt the US justice system is when it comes to the incarceration of African Americans. Thanks for sharing your story Latrice. I'm on your side.

This was SO GOOD. All the research just shows how much u truly appreciate OG drag legends like Latrice and all the others. From an outsider perspective of someone who is not in the drag scene, this feels like a gift for getting to know and learning about the lives and fascinating backgrounds of these artists we look up to and cherish so much. The amount of research and just straight-up PASSION for these queens is obvious. Maddy knocks it out of the park each and every time, and I'm always amazed. As a first gen boy color guard member, I relate so much to Latrice. I fought my director tooth and nail and was able to do winter guard but was never able to do marching band guard. So many boys started doing it in the years after I graduated and it warmed my heart they were getting the chances I was never given.
