I didn't realize this at first, but this season had a different showrunner. I knew something was off this season. The showrunner has the final say on the writing, costumes, makeup, pacing, everything. That is what I believe happened this season and why it was so different from the first two seasons. You can see the difference BIG TIME!!!!!
@@giaxalyse I kept waiting for the love confessions of the book or the balcony scene when revealing whistledown and it didn’t happen 😔 idk what they were thinking like where did the focus of the story go?? No romance 😿
It was Penelope's season for real (love her and love that for her). Colin was just a side character lmao (I'm sad and disappointed, because I expected much more)
When Colin confesses he’s been mad at Penelope and distant with her because he was envious of her, it didn’t feel believable AT ALL because they never fleshed him out as this passionate author who also often felt lonely and overlooked similar to Penelope and found solace in writing. Honestly such a frustarting season to watch because this is just one example of the many plots that felt so anticlimactic bc there weren’t fleshed out or written well.
Shout out to the writers for ruining the love story I actually cared about this season. Book readers said that Michael fell for Francesca first and that she was never interested in anyone other than John until he passed away. Instead of doing that, these hack fraud writers needed to set up another love triangle oh my god. Isn't one of the benefits of having so many future romantic leads being able to explore different kinds of love stories? A THIRD LOVE TRIANGLE??? Hack frauds
Yeah, im not even mad about michael being michaela, im more mad about the love triangle which seems fast approaching. That's saying something because I like love triangles but THESE PEOPLE ARE FUCKING MARRIED AND MICHAELA IS JOHN'S COUSIN it's really gross
The Francesca / Michaela things make zero sense and has nothing to do with homophobia, as most of the fandom loved Brimsley and Reynolds. There are valid criticisms over this specific gender swap and its implications taking away from Francesca's story
The golden egg was that Lady Bridgerton described how love happens - the stuttering and forgetting her name, etc - which is why she was hesitant to give her blessing because their love appeared more subtle and quiet. And we seen how Lady Brigerton acted when Lord Anderson rolled up on her. And we saw that the kiss between Francesa and Kilmartin was quick and she didn't look impressed. So those final credits when she meets Michaela and is stuttering was amazing because it echoed back to the type of love Lady Bridgerton described.
@@Brownivygal0811 But the thing is that love doesn't need to happen like that, it can grow quietly and that's what we were seeing with them. I liked when Violet told Franchesca that she taught her that love can be different, but the last part is implying that Violet was right with her first assuption on love, which is not true. (corrected some typos)
Homophobia is a nuanced beast. There are many people who think they aren't homophobic because they're fine with gay characters . . .as long as they are kept to the sidelines. That's to say just because people were rooting for Brimsley and Reynolds as small bit characters who aren't a part of the main story and affect nothing, doesn't remove their ability to still be homophobic when it comes to characters that actually matter to the plot. Saying that a person can't be homophobic because they didn't complain during the Brmsley/Reynolds romance arc is like saying "I can't be racist because I have a black friend". I agree with you that the genderswap with Francesca can be validly criticized because they really messed that whole plotline up but that doesn't change the fact that there are people using that as an excuse to just be homophobic which is what she addressing specifically in this video when she mentions it. Let's not defend or dismiss actual homophobia just because we want our own valid criticisms to be heard, okay?
@@nbucwa6621 I’m sorry, but I personally think that homophobia would be a valid term if people say something like “there should be only straight couples in the series”, because in the case of homophobia people would not accept any type of gay additions to the show. Sadly, people are using the term just because others want to see the couples from the books and it’s just not right to call them that.
I'm so disappointed. I can't even talk. I usually rewatch after and I have no desire to see this again. I'm sick of people using that as an agenda. And I agree with you. They have ruined this entire series with just a blink of an eye. I'm so tired and just not interested in the direction they are heading. I wanted to cry at the end. If they wanted to create a story then do it with a new character. Whoever the writer is is HORRID. I can't believe we got Queen Charlotte and then this mess.
I was disappointed with some choices this season. The new showrunner spent more time making it her versus it being for the fans of the books. It’s not gonna go the way she thinks. The fans are fans because of the charectors and love stories. This season muddled it down that’s why it feels so lack luster to me. I’m not really looking forward to another season. But seeing the babies at the end was super cute. Maybe that is the end of an era for this show.
Colin's character was nullified, in the first half he was sleeping and in the second he was just angry. You never get to know what he feels, why he loves her... nothing. And to top it off, he insinuates that Penelope tricked him into marrying him, despises her, leaves her alone and unprotected, messes up with Cressida, and when the queen exposes her, again, he leaves her alone. In episodes 7 and 8 I was yelling at Penelope to divorce from this idiot. It's a shame.
Colin barely touched Pen during the mirror steamy scene. He hovered over her and barely made contact with Pen. Her chest is in his face and he does nothing with that, he barely looks at her and after he does not caress her like she does to him. He looked uncomfortable and and forced to act in that scene. It was not giving romantic vibes at all. Luke and Nicola gave more flirty vibes during PR and it was all a stunt for them to get us to watch. Disappointed.
I love Pen's growth but I wish it hadn't been made by stepping onto Colin and turning him into NOTHING. A strong woman needing saving doesn't make her weak
I thought Cressida would somehow get a hold of Debling and propose a marriage between them. He needs someone to over see his estate, she needs to get out of the house. Problems solved!
I wanted this too. When she was riding away from her house, I was convinced Debling was going to run in and save her. They would have been perfect for each other.
Loved the mirror scene but I loved the scene in ep 7 where their yelling and just started making out in the street like yesss give us more of this and the acting and the writing was chefs kiss ugh.😭 wanted more polin
That was my favorite scene, they actually argued and kissed to make up. It was frustrating and tense but passionate. We needed more of that energy for this season for sure
I actually thought there are more Polin scenes but I wanted them to talk more. I did not expect the mirror scene to happen in episode 5 and I had to pause because I wasn’t mentally ready for it but so many people are saying that they were giggling cause they couldn’t take it seriously. I liked the alley scene the best, there was buildup with him yelling what good was he if he couldn’t protect her and Penelope screaming “I love you!” was *chef’s kiss* perfection. I couldn’t stand that they changed it so that Colin found out the truth later but I liked how he found out. And yes, Cressida had too much screen time and I think it’s because she’s a favorite amongst the cast and, sometimes, they give certain people more screen time because she might not come back for season 4. Lastly, I hope that based on the 8th episode we finally get Benedict’s season instead of Eloise because Marina (as we currently know) is still alive so it wouldn’t make sense to have it be her season yet. Part 2 was a rollercoaster ride for sure, far from a perfect season imo but I’m excited to see how they progress. The showrunner needs to rein it in and focus on the Bridgerton family more.
I agree! I wish we saw them talking more for sure. And Cressida being a cast favorite makes sense now! I see why they gave her screen time. LOL I definitely also didn’t take the mirror scene seriously and was surprised it happened so fast
Their romance scenes seemed out of nowhere for me and semi-awkward. Kind of like it wasn't earned (that's what I thought of the carriage scene especially). Them building up the relationship with convo between them talking about more than Whistledown would've helped
I'm not a Cressida fan at all she's too much of a bully I don't like how much she bullied Penelope all the freaking time....I couldn't and can't have sympathy for her she's a total pain in the butt!
@@BleedingHeartFlowerCrying I'm not a fan of Cressida in the book or the show. When I said "favorite amongst the cast" I meant that the crew and cast love her, she seems to get along with everyone in real life. But Cressida is not a nice character, she's meant to be an antihero and a villain to Penelope. The only thing I wish they had done was allow her to end things with Lord Debling, for him to sense her true character and reject her as well. That would have been perfect in part 2, we would have seen a little more of Debling and he could have wished Penelope goodbye before disappearing to wherever the heck he was going.
Loved the season, dissatisfied with the Polin intimate scenes. The one scene I feel they failed on was when the maid left the bedroom at Polin's home and Colin placed his journal away in the drawer and he went into the bedroom to grab a blanket, clearly the way he was wanting to be intimate with her. What I wish they would have done with this scene, it would have been a great opportunity for him to invite her to read a page in his journal and then they could have had them sit on the bed and lay together while reading from his journal, then he could have kissed Penelope and nearly go far intimately but they could have stopped it then to keep the building up of their to fight. This would have given the viewers hope in their marriage and the long awaited chemistry build up of their shared interest into writing. I wish so badly this happened in that scene Instead. There was definitely not enough intimacy for how hot Nicola and Luke both are so very frustrating and upsetting ugh lol❤ I know it is only a show but I am very invested now that I had to wait so long for part 2 and now like you say I'm still waiting for the connection between them. I hope we see hot scenes in the next.
imo that is exactly how that scene should have played out. it made me especially sad when their wedding night had such a miserable ending, since i hoped they atleast would reconnect for that. it would have been perfect especially with "i wanna be yours" in the background (i feel betrayed it wasn't used🥲) but i really love the intimate scenes we did get, they were perfect. especially the alley scene. i really wanted more scenes with that kind of passion.
As an absolute Polin Fan, I have to say that I am kinda heartbroken. I think that the first part of the season was done very well. You had the excitement, the longing, jealous-chaos-Colin and the most beautiful first kiss I have ever seen! All together with the incredibly hot carriage scene (which WE ALL replayed like 10000times😂) and then we get to the second part. And boy oh boy, where do I even start? Let’s start with episode 5: We finally got to the incredibly anticipated love scene. I love that they changed the location, and it actually didn’t happen in Colin’s bedroom at Bridgerton house. They had this entire house for themselves, and the writers could’ve written this love scene so magically, sweet and spicy because they had the perfect surrounding for it! Polin could’ve taken their time, as it happened in the book (even though they were at Bridgerton house with the risk of someone finding out what they were doing!!) Instead, we got a very short, non-realistic, and at it’s best DECENTLY ROMANTIC first time, which lasted no longer than 3 minutes?????!!! What the hell happened? Also, the way this was shot, was soooo weird. Pen gets undressed, and then Colin tells her to lay down, without even loosing a single word about her breasts? Guys I’m sooo sorry. But book Colin is OBSESSED with Pen’s cleavage and shows it in every possible way…what the hell happened to that? Also…we heard so many times: mirror this, and mirror that…but all we got was a quick glimpse while SHE was getting undressed, without even mentioning anything about the actual mirror. So, why did you use it in the first place, if you are not going to mention the book-scene where he talks to Pen about actually DOING IT in front of a mirror while cupping her??? Afterwards, everything else happens very quickly, and feels almost “synthetic” I was hoping for sooo much more. In the book storyline, their first time is tender, sweet, romantic and passionate. They get vulnerable in front of each other, confessing their love and being true to themselves. We have a funny moment where she asks him about how he thought she was going to look like…and let’s say it: the foreplay didn’t last 2 seconds as in the series 🙄 The shot ends with them giggling, which is cute, and continues with us having to see another 5 million storylines before going back to our MAIN COUPLE laying together? It felt so off, as if those scenes did not actually belong together… Let’s hop over to episode 6 and talk about the elephant in the room: Our Lady Whistledown reveal. We had so much potential. They could have gone like 20.000 routes about this. Instead, we see Pen going to the printers shop, without any clue about Colin following her. It would have made sooo much sense if we would have gotten at least a little snippet of Colin following her in a carriage similar to the book storyline. It would have made this plot so much better!!! The angst and excitement about this imminent relevelation!! Are you kidding me?? Let’s continue..pen leaves the printers shop, and in absolute Casper the Ghost fashion we see Colin appear out of nowhere…like…okay??? Then we go straight to Episode 7: We start off with Colin accusing Penelope, because she’s Lady Whistledown. What i really appreciate, is Luke’s acting. You can feel his hurt and pain, but afterwards, everything gets confusing and disconnected…. We see Colin being upset (understandably), and get to the wedding….then somehow he isn’t upset anymore?? In the following shots we get to one of the most beautiful and emotional parts of this entire season: Pen walking down the aisle, all together with their wedding declarations. I will admit that I cried during this scene because I really do love them as a couple, and know that WE ALL waited so many years to finally see this moment. We have a beautiful, romantic and incredible first dance…… Sounds perfect, right??!!! Well well dear readers… Of course have to destroy everything because we have our lovely queen breaking into the party demanding that everybody should go home…well done charlotte….well done 😑 Colin gets upset once more because Pen tells him that she will not stop being Lady Whistledown…. In response, he is sleeping on the couch…..a perfect first wedding night….don’t you agree?? In an effort to comfort her, Eloise embraces her, telling her meanwhile that she can’t to anything to help her??? Excuse me what? She wrote that issue in the first place to save YOUR BOOTY, and now, you can’t even try to talk to Colin in Pen’s favor? Episode 8: Why why why could we not get our queen Charlotte seeing them the next day, let’s say while the entire Bridgerton family was enjoying an afternoon tea at Bridgerton house??? 😔 It would have made perfectly sense, and given Polin the possibility of having a wonderful, beautiful and romantic first night as husband and wife….similarly as in the book, he could have put his anger to the side, because his love for her was so much stronger…..something that I’m sure many of us would have appreciated. The next day we see them struggle due to a very cold and distant Colin. What the hell happened to all the “Love” you feel for Pen??? Why don’t they get a moment to sit down, and talk about their feelings ??! That would have brought sooo much to the table and put up a beautiful meaning to their story as Friends and lovers. Instead we get the same old upset and silent Colin. 🫥 After all of this turmoil, the writers decided to go back to a little snippet of something that actually happened in the book storyline: Cressida’s blackmail plot. 💰 First of all: What the hell was the point in Colin’s conversation with Cressida? We could have skipped that part completely knowing that Cressida IS the villain. Nothing could have prevented them from her being mean. It was only a matter of time… Meanwhile, we have to endure the endless threesome between Ben, Tilly and Paul that appears literally almost as often as we hear the name Bridgerton in this show…. Wouldn’t it have been enough showing us that there was a relationship going on between those three ONCE? Why did we take so much time from the main and most important storyline, to give it to sooo many subplots that just don’t make any sense?? (Don’t get me even started on how much time we wasted on Cressida and her entire family) Speaking of: since we took so much time for said subplots, we have only 20 minutes left of this entire season for our MAIN LADY WHISTLEDOWN PLOT……Great… needless to say that the Lady Whistledown reveal felt rushed, such as the other pivotal plotlines, and could have been portrayed so much better. I would have expected a confident version of Penelope, revealing to the ton who she truly is, embracing her identity and coming to her own….showing everyone HOW much they underestimated her. And what about Colin ?? Why the hell was HE not the one holding her hand instead of Portia??!! He was standing somewhere completely different making us the viewers believe that he was still mad at her, and somehow after her announcement he hops out of nowhere, telling her that that was bloody, brilliant, and everything is sunshine and rainbows because he read some letters??? Sir?? I’m confused…deeply confused….The Epilogue was written nicely, but like the last time we got a way too short and cut off love scene…😣 Loved the part about the babies which were incredibly cute ❤️ Meanwhile, instead of sticking to the importance of Colin’s journals as in the book, we see one of them for a brief second and that’s it…we get their final kiss which was very sweet. I want to add, that the actors deserve all the credit and love, because they did an amazing job portraying what they were told to by the script, so I don’t mean to send any hate to any single one of them…. This was just my true and honest opinion as a Polin-Superfan who was eager to see their Book-Storyline come to life. I want to end this very long dissertation, by mentioning those scenes and snippets I really loved: The scene of Colin defending Pen was truly remarkable, and it was nice to finally see someone stand up for her, declaring her importance so publicly. That was a full circle moment that brought home sooo much and set those allegations we heard in seasons 1 and 2 as “Colin is no more your friend, than I am Catherine the great” finally to rest. I also love what they did with the Violet and Marcus plotline. It’s a nice and seemless continuation of what we’ve previously seen in the queen Charlotte spinoff. Violet deserves happiness, and I hope that we will get a continuation of that storyline in the future. To end this off, I loved how they redeemed Portia’s character ark, and had this beautiful Mother-Daughter duo, showing us even more clearly, that Pen has got soo much from Mama Featherington herself. Seeing how she finally perceived her daughter, and saw her true value, was a joy, and put a happy ending to this storyline.
Fran and Jon are cute but i hate Micheala being a woman as other comments have said it takes away the importance of Frans future storyline turning Micheal into a woman -Eloise was ok. I just miss the romance she had last season with Theo - Cressida should have ended up with Lord Debling but he vanished -I skipped through every Benedict storyline it was unnecessary but I did like his scenes with his siblings - I love Kates interactions with the family - I didn't love the Modrich's but i didn't hate them i feel like they could have been useful if the writers incorporated them into the story better - Lady D's brothe I like him with Violet everything else was ok with him I didn't really care. I just Violet to be happy lol
@@monharris28I wanted Michael to and I loved Francesca’s story and how it played out in the book. Also I hate what they did with Benedict if they are just going to have him marry a woman and never really explorer his sexuality it makes it feel like they did it just to do it and it doesn’t really explore anything about him discovering himself and who he is. I hate when shows throw token black people or LGBTQ in the show just to say we have them on screen make the story actually flow properly and be about something cause this ain’t it. Like in Queen Charlotte I loved Brimsley and Reynolds story almost as much as George and Charlotte’s because it made sense and it felt natural not like oh well let’s just throw in a same sex love story to check it off our list.
To expand on my earlier comment, I looked up the writers for this season and a few of them are new to writing for Bridgerton and a couple are new script writers, as in this is the first credit listed for writing. I honestly don't blame them but I want to stress that Netflix and the production companies are the entities that should be criticized for the lack of character development and inconsistencies in the writing - the showrunner brought in new people because it's their team (that's one of the perks of being a showrunner) and ultimately the writing and editing suffered. We don't get to see everything that was filmed and I have a feeling this the latest version of the show because the leaks that happened state other facts and press didn't receive the final 2 episode screeners which makes me think that they made another version of the show for the second part release. I work in production and it takes 12 weeks to deliver to Netflix, more than enough time to edit new versions for streaming.
Polin was my favourite couple. WAS. In the books, I know him way better and actually relate to him more than Penelope. The writing was HORRIBLE for Colin in his OWN season. I barely know him and it was his season. You'd think the couple from childhood and with the most history would get a backstory but no, they didn't. Colin has no depth and felt like a prop in his own season. Isn't he the Bridgerton? And Simon and Anthony got backstories. The writing for Season 3 was poor and some of the worst writing and directing I've ever seen. What was those chopped up Benedict threesome scenes doing just jumping back and forth spliced up with another scene? What the hell was season 3?
I personally feel disappointed by this season. When I watched Nicola and Luke's interviews I felt so hyped, and was expecting a lot. But in the end, to me, the steamy scenes (except for the carriage scene) were lacking, there was not enough cutesy and lovely and loving moments between Penelope and Colin for me to feel like it was truly THEIR season, and there was too much subplots for me so the whole season felt like a messy whirlwind. When I wanted to focus on being happy for them after their engagement and then their wedding, I wasn't because I was more focus on the emotional baggage that came with Colin not yet knowing that Pen was Lady Whistledown, and then his rudeness. Like who is that man? That's not the same man that I loved from the S1 and S2! Justice for Colin. I loved Penelope the whole season, but Colin is just... meh. Also, the big love confession just flew over my head; Nicola and Luke said that what we saw in the carriage wasn't THE love confession and that we'd see something betten in the 2nd part of S3, but, tbh, THE love confession wasn't it for me. I loved how Penelope yelled at Colin that she loved him, that's THE love confession for me. I did like how they went with Pen and Portia's relationship, and I loved the scenes that included John and Francesca being cute together or socially awkward. I also liked how Prudence genuinely told Penelope she looked beautiful on her wedding day (it was just nice and a cute albeit unexpected moment between two sisters, I can't blame myself). As a bisexual person myself, I was also positively surprised they decided to give Benedict his bisexuality back (that's phrased funny lol) (and even a threesome, wow, didn't expect that), because after season 1 I was disappointed they just queerbaited us with Benedict and Eloise possibly not being heterosexual. But I don't like how he was pushed aside this season, because I like him a lot and his storyline this season feels a little forced. Loved lady Arnold though, and I wished we saw more of her, along with Lord Debling (where did he go anyway? why did they forget about him so easily in the 2nd part of S3? wasn't he supposed to want to find a wife this season?? I'm confused. Debling forever in my heart). Introducing Michaela Stirling was a funny unexpected thing to me, I gasped out loud. The actress is stunning, but I worry how they're going to do Fran and Michaela's season. I also would hate for them to make a love triangle out of John, Francesca and Michaela. I just want Fran and John to be cute together for as long as they can before they move on to Michaela as the love interest for Francesca. Overall, I did not like this season much, and it didn't live up to the hype, and I'm disappointed. Singular scenes that I genuinely liked aren't enough to make me say that I enjoyed this season as a whole. I really wish they went differently about it.
I really thought debling was going to come back for Cressida, I feel bad that she did everything cus she was lonely and was ok with being alone but everything was against her
I agree with you!!! Everything you said was well said! Especially the hype around the love confession and then it just fell flat. And Colin was so meh this season he was essentially a side character and not a main love interest
@@yasmeenw7227 I really hoped Debling and Cressida would marry. They seemed to understand each other in that scene with the balloon, wehn he talked about wanting to get away from his family and she looked like she knew very well what he meant.
@@giaxalyse The season really felt like Penelope season and Colin was just aside character, like you said in the video, and I love Penelope, but I still am disappointed becuase it was supposed to be the season about their love story and didn't even get enough of that
I read that some people seemed to think they had filmed more sex scenes and lusty stuff but it got cut from the final outcome. If this is true, I can't understand why, they know we as the audience were eager for it. They're so beloved and I feel they could've done so much more. If they're both back next season, unfortunately I feel we won't get loads of scenes with them, let alone steamy ones, as it will mostly focus on the next lead couple, LIKE THIS SERIES SHOULD'VE DONE.😟
I thought this season would be great considering it was going to be a friend to lovers but they did it soo WRONG I watched Arcane League of Legends season 1 has 8 episodes like Bridgerton each episode almost a hour like Bridgeton and it only took 2 minutes for the writers of Arcae to show the audience Jinx and Ekko's past friendship TWO MINUTES!!! So watching this season and seeing that the writers of Bridgerton couldn't even do that with Polin was disappointing
Let me know your thoughts on bridgerton season 3 part 2!! Overall, I liked part 2 better than part 1 but there were definitely some things I'd change like more Polin scenes, I wanted there to be so much polin it felt like allergy season LOL
My problem with Colin and Penelope is that the show trained me to anticipate it rather than making me actually WANT it. And if that’s not enough, Colin has never mattered to this story up until season 3. We have watched him act like an absolute dumbass with no self respect up until season 3 episode 4 when he finally actually starts to do SOMETHING. And his immediate falling in love with Pen just comes out of nowhere and it doesn’t feel earned. And there’s no excuse at this point since unlike Simon and Daphne and Kate and Anthony, these two have had more time to build up chemistry and a love story. But instead, all it feels like is nothing more than “oh well it’s fine for Colin and Pen to get together.” And it just does not work for me and it’s a real shame because Nicola deserved a better season.
Okay jigs up Bridgeton go re-record the part 2 of season 3 and make the complete opposite of what you gave us because what?! I was really routing for this season and enjoyed part 1 but they effed polin over
Concerning the Michaela thing, I dislike how they made it seem that Violet just couldn't fathom how Francesca loved Kilmartin because he's so quiet and peaceful. I think the writers dropped the ball making Francesca speechless when she saw Michaela after showing the viewers her disappointment with the wedding kiss. It just felt backwards because they made it such a point that love doesn't have to be hard, love doesn't always make you crazy, speechless, and suddenly she's very flustered and lost for words when she sees Michaela. However, I noticed Michaela didn't know who Francesca (implying John didn't tell her) so I'm choosing to interpret Franc's reaction as a result to this(being asked who are you by John's cousin)
Loved the disclaimer off jump. Absolutely agree. I really loved the last two episodes. Cressida got so much screen time and for what now she is gone?! Honestly feel like she is not gone forever considering the amount of time she got this season.
Yeah I’ve seen a lot of hate speech online just in the past 24 hours, I can’t imagine how it’ll spiral. And RIGHT i don’t think Cressida is gone for good after all that screen time
It seemed like Colin cared more about pen in part 1 even though they were friends. I understand he should be angry about lady whistledown but the comment he made about pen entraping him was just so wrong . Like you are the one who brought her to an empty house without a maid. He was not supportive or protective of her at all. They should have had a better ,more serious conversation about lady whistledown. One of the things the book did right was that Colin really was impressed the moment he found out about it. He had his angry moments but it was clear it was because he was worried about her and wanted to protect her. In the show seemed to me like he just wanted to crush that part of her because of jealousy and he kept disrespecting and disregarding her. Which is something you wouldn't do if you truely love someone. When Pen asks him why he is being distant he says he doesn't know . He should have at least gave her a reason. I felt like he was just trying to be controlling and when she said she wouldn't stop her writing just because he says so , he wouldn't accept it. The love confessions didn’t really hit either. They kept saying "I love you " so many times it lost its spark. There were some good distinct love declarations in the book like there was for anthony and they should have used that . Or at least written something better. Overall I felt more love between them in part 1 . Part 2 seemed really flat to me. Even the carriage scene and their first kiss felt much more romantic and intimate than the scenes in part 2. Also I don't like what they did with Eloise. First she comes to her and says stop writing for my brother and also because she is envious of her. Then when her family's reputation is in danger she asks her to write again . And when Colin finds out She is like this has nothing to do with me solve it yourself. Like??? The Eloise we knew from past seasons wouldn't say that. Especially now that they have resolved things about Whistledown. Neither Colin nor Eloise supported Pen when she needed it the most. I feel like none of them deserve her. The other storylines were all over the place. The family scenes we so loved previously were nowhere to be found . Violet was so invested in Francesca even though its Colin's season not hers. Too many sex scenes from Benedict which I had to skip. Cressida's and the Mondrich's storyline went nowhere with all that screentime they had. The lady whistledown reveal was not done properly . The should have excluded Portia from finding out sooner so we would have at least have eloise ,colin, and pen as a trio . And it should have been Colin holding her hand before the reveal . Instead he wasn’t even near her.Like this is their love story not pen's story. Also what the hell are they gonna do now that everyone knows? You can't spill the beans on people if they know who you are and get away with it. Also the point was that Pen was so invisible she could hear everyone' private conversation. Now that everyone knows who she is how the hell is she going to get information. In conclusion when I watched part 1 I felt the flow of storylines was not great but I liked the main couple story and had high hopes for part 2.But the writing really disappointed me. Also they are stepping away from reality a little too much. The bttuerflies and the flower thing an the balloon , the makeup, etc. It is just making it so different from the previous seasons and not in a good way. We still want to see that era with the rules and aesthetic not whatever this is supposed to be. I am all for lgbtq. But if they want one of the main storylines be queer what would be the end of it? They can't still maryy in that period. I suspect they would want to change the rules in society. But it wouldn't be the 1800s anymore!!! If you modernize the rules , the costumes , the looks , what are you left with? And for Francesca's story she has struggles with child loss and infertility. They destroyed half of her story with this move. Imagine Simon was a woman . The second part of season 1 wouldn't exist. The changes the new show runner is making would be the downfall of bridgerton. I myself am no longer interested or excited for new seasons. My expectations are very low right now and I think I even might drop the show.
bridgerton is not a documentary, it is a fictionalized version of the 1800s. queen charlotte in real life was not black. im curious why you chose queerness as something innacuarate about the time period, but didnt say anything about the costumes which are not historically accurate? or the band playing covers of popular songs? and the funniest thing is gay people did exist in the 1800s (unlike taylor swift's "wildest dreams"), gay people have ALWAYS existed. i think clearly, you are not "all for lgbtq", so just say that. no need to pretend as if you care about the historical accuracy of a FICTIONAL netflix period tv show.
@user-so8kl3cv4m I did mention the costumes and make up. I know it is fantasy but they are still selling the show as regency drama. They should keep true to their words. Season 1 and 2 weren't historicaly accurate either but at least they felt realistic. Also even if they decide to make Benedict 's love interest a man I'd be okay with it cause Benedict' love story is about people with different social standings falling in love. It wouldn't change the essence of their story drastically. But for Francesca's it does. Maybe they should've made hyacinth the queer one .
I agree that Eloise will benefit from the travels. I wonder if she will start letter writing in scotland. Re: Benedict leaving art out of the dinner convo is wild but he did it because he feels like a fraud
As an artist myself who often feels like a fraud, I really didn't understand Benedict's whole arc around that. I wish he had at least mentioned that he "used to dabble" or something like that so we could get some kind an opportunity for Benedict's actor to show some emotion this season. I feel like we got nothing from him this season except very shallow, surface level scenes to move the plot forward.
You are correct... there were not enough Polin scenes... those disgusting 3 way scenes with Benedict should have been more Polin scenes instead. There was not enough of Colin as you said: he was a "side character" in his own season. I want poor Eloise to be featured for Season 4 instead of Benedict the Cat.
Last two episodes besides a few pretty lines and the genuinely nice improvement with Portia and pen, was absolutely devastating. Like I’m disengaged from the characters now with how it went down. I don’t think I’ll be able to wait 2 years for more of a letdown. Sucks because I was staying hopeful and enjoyed the first 6 episodes. There are ways to show Colin’s turmoil, distance and development into accepting LW without all that coldness and emotional unavailability. It was so hostile and weird. Such a departure from the book and not it a good way. Because the book has its own issues.
They edited out out polin love scenes which just hollowed out the love story, which showed Colin’s struggle of wanting her. Then without those love scenes he’s just so cold. Therefore, I just don’t rewatch ep. 8, I was good with ep. 7 but it would have been so much better if they wouldn’t have edited out them being together the night before the wedding.
You haven't read the books, so I'll be tactful for others not wanting to be spoiled... . . . . . . Eloise definitely needs to be a better listener to be a better friend in general. Her story is going to require a lot of empathy on her part, and I'm thinking that is going to help open her heart to romance, and to be a less selfish person. She's going to get her big adventure, and hopefully that is going to mean growth.
They really thought a smile and a nod was going to save that whole wedding scene. I will never forgive him for accusing her of entrapping her. I wish he would have turned the blame on himself and said he was marrying her because he entrapped her. Because he DID. He stole her honor.
8:35 Unfortunately, I thought the show disserviced their relationship because fat phobia. It just felt really unsatisfying. And that was disappointing.
The sex scene felt a little awkward to me; not the first part, but the second part. The sofa looks uncomfortable as hell to me...I don't know. Like put that woman in a bed and Colin didn't even look into it like he was fumbling with his fingers too much lol. I agree with your point about Colin not being male lead--he had simp energy to me.
I really enjoyed part two and feel that splitting the season was a mistake! All together it was great! Although a little too well wrapped up for a S4. From the comments I have read a lot of people are unhappy with the gay storylines that are emerging and the shift away from the books in order to do so. Some people are being labelled homophobic for expressing their views on this topic. For me, I feel it is more that when I watch this show I love to be sucked into the storyline and project myself onto the characters, so as a straight woman I like to watch straight couples as I can relate more. It does not mean I am not moved by gay storylines, it just means I can absorb myself more when I can imagine it is me. Same with Benedict, I imagine that if you are attracted to his character, then you like the illusion that in your fantasy you have a chance with him. This shatters that illusion if he would rather be with a man, than you. So I don't think all the comments that sound homophobic are always intended that way (although admittedly some are). That is just my experience as an audience member, and how I experience the show.
The writers did Colin’s character so dirty in episode 8, and then the show runner edited out their love scenes. I’m alright with it but I don’t rewatch ep. 8, I just stop watching after the wedding dance in ep.7.
I loved it!! As a book reader, i felt it was the best season yet. ❤ Maybe i feel this way because i hardly like any of the books in the series...show was a much improvement imo.
6:58 I really appreciated this part because I feel like a lot of Bridgerton fans ignore the good parts of Eloise’s character. Pen is my favorite character but I often feel like most Pen Stans treat Eloise, Marina, and Colin like they’re the devil. It’s nice seeing another Penelope fan who actually appreciates the other characters and recognizes that they are flawed and fun. I’m looking forward to seeing how Eloise grows out her self centered nature.
Overall i liked it, but personally i felt that Polin was a bit sidelined(in their own season??) In my opinion this is on the new writers, producers etc. I think Luke and Nicola did a phenomenal job. 8 episodes is simply just not enough to flesh out Polins love story, LW and multiple sidelines. Part 1 was 10/10 for me. I became extremely obsessed with Polin immediatly. Episode 5 was also perfect. But episode 6, 7, 8 felt rushed and crammed with storylines. There were a lot of incredible scenes, moments and dialogue in part 2, but also things i would have changed. This season was so romantic, but it felt like it was for everybody, instead of focusing mostly on the romance between Colin and Pen. They deserved more attention to their love and connection outside of all the drama. I was especially saddened by their wedding night having such a miserable ending. I hoped they would atleast reconnect for that. I feel like they needed a couple more passionate scenes, or cute moments between them to really show their love. The alley scene is a perfect example. I really wanted more scenes with that kind of passion. Could we not have gotten a couple of quick scenes, or an angry s*x moment? I also wish they had delved a lot more into Colins story arc the same way they did with Anthony and Simon. That's a big missing piece we really needed. In some ways it also kind of felt like Penelope's season, not Polin's. Everything about Penelopes development and journey was thought out and well executed and Colin deserved the same. But it's like there wasn't enough room for him. Benedicts storyline could've been saved for his season with just a couple of easter eggs in s3. The whole mondrich storyline could also have had a lot less screentime. (also i was really bummed that "i wanna be yours" wasn't used. I was expecting it and that would've been so perfect like whyy??) But all in all, since Colin and Pen have captured my heart; i still absolutely loved it.
How did you clock that they would make Fran gay?! That is incredible! And i completely agree with you that Eloise was right there?! Eloise has always been queer coded so why did they go that route with Fran instead?
LOL when she was with the other girls and they asked her what she wanted in a man she didn’t have a solid answer and it gave off wanting to be with a woman to me! And Eloise would’ve been so perfect
Maybe because how the author wanted the couples to stay the same as in the books even though they changed the gender of Michael to Michaela it’s still the same person and has the same relations being that she is John’s cousin, Eloise endgame relationship is with sir Philip crane which is a character that we have already seen in season 1 and 2, making it not really possible to change that being that the relationships have to stay the same. Francesca however is a character that got hardly any screen time due to the actress being busy not here fault, as a result most people didn’t know of her existence until this season and have only started questioning her story, not like Eloise who had a lot of screen time over the past seasons and in those seasons people already asked questions about her character and story and have already gotten the answers thus knowing what to expect and have seen her future partner as he has featured in the show as well. My opinion is because most people didn’t know of Francesca and her story thus not really caring about it because of the lack of connection, made the writers think they could change her story because hardly anyone would notice nor care however they were wrong.
I was really looking forward to POLIN, all the PR. I was just eating that up! I thought ok, slow burn part 1. Part 2 Colin tore my heart and throw it to the ground, stepped on it as he was throwing his tantrum. He accused her of entrapping him! Excuse me, YOU (Colin) are the one who interrupted her proposal, she was just trying to move on with her life! Pen always looked after the Bridgertons and Colin didn't appreciate her, he couldn't see her, her motivations. Thankfully Pen was friggin amazing! Her growth was outstanding. Other women even lifting her up, her mom, Lady Danbury, Lady Bridgerton even El got in there! Not her love interest, why would he support her. (rant over). Loved the development with Pen's mom, her sisters and El!! They all eclipsed Colin. I would LOVE to see a spin off with Lady Danbury!! She is a role model!! I love her so much! I also want to see Edmund and Violet!
everything felt so rushed this season. too many things happened. I didn't feel the chemistry between Pen and Colin either. Like where's the passion, where's the sparkle! Also disappointed at what they chose to do with Cressida's character - I was rooting for her happy ending.
The other plots were enjoyable. It really is a shame polin got reduced because of it. It feels like they needed 10 episodes so polin could have a whole lot of scenes and longer scenes for build up. Instead of the main leads they felt like side characters in their own season was so disappointing.
I hate to say it but I didn’t care about part 2. I agree that Colin didn’t take up space and wasn’t convincing in terms of conveying his love to Penelope. I was waiting for his love declaration from the books at the ending after Penelope is revealed as LWD and that was one of my favorite parts of the book. I wanted to like this second half so bad, but it just fell flat for me.
You actually missed this point of their first encounter, she was then still very insecure about herself her as a woman, she is been fir yers ignored so the first encountered was in point, buuutttt!!!!! Yes girl i totally agree they needed more episodes after wedding reconciliation, more romance, more sexual empowerment from Pen
So part 2 was definitely better than part 1 but not amazing. Colin is still boring but he was definitely better in this part. Penelope and her relationship with her mother was very interesting. I really liked the direction they took with it. Benedict’s storyline was a bit… frustrating? I was totally rooting for him to be bi but I was expecting it in a bit more of a love story or a little crush, something cute. I just found it a little cliche like “yeah he is bi so put him in a threesome”. Maybe I am the only one but I was expecting something more romantic? Idk. (The “I don’t make art” comment was because of the fact that Anthony paid the art academy to accept Benedict which made him question his talent in season 2) Eloise is probably my favourite character but I never realized how bad of a friend she is 💀. Like she really didn’t care when Cressida was asking for help and then was mad at her for doing shitting things. Like girl- she has no one except you and you don’t give a shit. I am really excited to see the direction they will take with Francesca and Michaela (I didn’t read the books). I hope it will be well done.
Ok so here’s a thought and I’m not saying this is my specific opinion but it just occurred to me: what if they tried to make Polin a bigger part of season 3 but since the chemistry isn’t THERE like the past 2 seasons they were like oh sh!t we gotta bump all the other storylines up to make up for it. It’s not like they could just recast Collin or Penelope (not saying they should!!!) to find people who had more chemistry without there being a huge uproar so they just made Polin a bit more low key. What are everyone’s thoughts?!
The queerphobia in this fandom is actually insane, the reactions to Benedict and Fran tell me everything I need to know about the people who are hating
My problem with the whole Francesca situation is, from what I've seen people putting online(i haven't read the books), it seems there's a lot of very deep and emotional elements to her storyline such as infertility i believe and a few other things which i can't recall, so by switching the gender, it seems like they will be thowing away all that stuff and completely changing her storyline. The Benedict threesome man love doesn't really bother me, I like to think that he's given it a try a couple times, and will deduce that actually women are for him! I have to admit I did think there would be a bit of gay action with him in a couple moments from Season 1 , but then it got abandoned so i thought it was just me !!😆

I don’t think it’s homophobia, Micheal’s gender swap doesn’t make sense his character is based around him being a male like gaining ownership of property which is something a women could not do, this also means they have to rewrite Francesca’s entire story
AGREED!!! You can totally feel and see the difference! I hope they get a different show runner for season 4!
They had four different directors
where did book Colin go? his whole character arc was given to other people...he had no role whatsoever in the last 2 episodes like what
nah LEGIT! He was a side character until the very end
@@giaxalyse I kept waiting for the love confessions of the book or the balcony scene when revealing whistledown and it didn’t happen 😔 idk what they were thinking like where did the focus of the story go?? No romance 😿
He's not important. Only the women are. And Benedict being gay of course
It was Penelope's season for real (love her and love that for her). Colin was just a side character lmao (I'm sad and disappointed, because I expected much more)
@@satanspizza-dq6xf it wasn’t supposed to be pens season so that’s why I’m disappointed it was combined in the books
That's saying something because I like love triangles but THESE PEOPLE ARE FUCKING MARRIED AND MICHAELA IS JOHN'S COUSIN
it's really gross
@@gracebres Fran is acoustic, so it's not her fault she likes other people while married.
@@thelegacyofgaming2928 I’m pretty sure the showrunner said she wasn’t autistic, just gay which… idk about that
The Francesca / Michaela things make zero sense and has nothing to do with homophobia, as most of the fandom loved Brimsley and Reynolds.
Agreed. It would be better for her to stick to the book as the others do.
I feel EXACTLY the same as you…utter disappointment over the ruin of a previously good series. They should fire this new show runner.
All males are idiots in this show 😂
Colin barely touched Pen during the mirror steamy scene. Disappointed.
the whole season felt so rushed..
I love Pen's growth but I wish it hadn't been made by stepping onto Colin and turning him into NOTHING. A strong woman needing saving doesn't make her weak
they did Colin dirty. They developed Penelope but not Colin. I was so disappointed he felt like a side character
The spice scene felt flat! I was really hoping lord debling would come back to help Cressida, they would've been prefect
Wait you’re so right! That could’ve been so cute!
Yes. He would be kind and bring out her softer side.
Lord D just got lost leaving the ball. Like I was worried he’d been murdered! 😂 guess this writers drops people as soon as they don’t serve the story.
I was bummed about the second part too, not enough Polin
No because whyyyyy was Cressida on my screen all the time instead of Polin
Loved the mirror scene but I loved the scene in ep 7 where their yelling and just started making out in the street like yesss give us more of this and the acting and the writing was chefs kiss ugh.😭 wanted more polin
Right???? I actually felt the passion GIVE US MORE
That was my favorite scene, they actually argued and kissed to make up.
All together with the incredibly hot carriage scene
(which WE ALL replayed like 10000times😂)
and then we get to the second part. And boy oh boy, where do I even start?
Let’s start with episode 5:
We finally got to the incredibly anticipated love scene.
I love that they changed the location, and it actually didn’t happen in Colin’s bedroom at Bridgerton house. They had this entire house for themselves, and the writers could’ve written this love scene so magically, sweet and spicy because they had the perfect surrounding for it!
Polin could’ve taken their time, as it happened in the book
(even though they were at Bridgerton house with the risk of someone finding out what they were doing!!)
Instead, we got a very short, non-realistic, and at it’s best DECENTLY ROMANTIC first time, which lasted no longer than 3 minutes?????!!! Afterwards, everything else happens very quickly, and feels almost “synthetic”
I was hoping for sooo much more. In the book storyline, their first time is tender, sweet, romantic and passionate. They get vulnerable in front of each other, confessing their love and being true to themselves. We have a funny moment where she asks him about how he thought she was going to look like…and let’s say it: the foreplay didn’t last 2 seconds as in the series 🙄
The shot ends with them giggling, which is cute, and continues with us having to see another 5 million storylines before going back to our MAIN COUPLE laying together?
It felt so off, as if those scenes did not actually belong together…
Let’s hop over to episode 6 and talk about the elephant in the room:
Our Lady Whistledown reveal.
Then we go straight to Episode 7:
We start off with Colin accusing Penelope, because she’s Lady Whistledown.
What i really appreciate, is Luke’s acting. You can feel his hurt and pain, but
afterwards, everything gets confusing and disconnected….
We see Colin being upset (understandably),
and get to the wedding….then somehow he isn’t upset anymore??
In the following shots we get to one of the most beautiful and emotional parts of this entire season: Pen walking down the aisle,
all together with their wedding declarations.
I will admit that I cried during this scene because I really do love them as a couple, and know that WE ALL waited so many years to finally see this moment.
We have a beautiful, romantic and incredible first dance……
Sounds perfect, right??!!! Well well dear readers…
Of course have to destroy everything because we have our lovely queen breaking into the party demanding that everybody should go home…well done charlotte….well done 😑
Colin gets upset once more because Pen tells him that she will not stop being Lady Whistledown….
Episode 8:
Why why why could we not get our queen Charlotte seeing them the next day, let’s say while the entire Bridgerton family was enjoying an afternoon tea at Bridgerton house??? 😔
It would have made perfectly sense, and given Polin the possibility of having a wonderful, beautiful and romantic first night as husband and wife….similarly as in the book, he could have put his anger to the side, because his love for her was so much stronger…..something that I’m sure many of us would have appreciated.
After all of this turmoil, the writers decided to go back to a little snippet of something that actually happened in the book storyline: Cressida’s blackmail plot. 💰
First of all: What the hell was the point in Colin’s conversation with Cressida? We could have skipped that part completely knowing that Cressida IS the villain. Nothing could have prevented them from her being mean. It was only a matter of time…
Meanwhile, we have to endure the endless threesome between Ben, Tilly and Paul that appears literally almost as often as we hear the name Bridgerton in this show…. Wouldn’t it have been enough showing us that there was a relationship going on between those three ONCE?
Why did we take so much time from the main and most important storyline, to give it to sooo many subplots that just don’t make any sense??
(Don’t get me even started on how much time we wasted on Cressida and her entire family)
Speaking of: since we took so much time for said subplots, we have only 20 minutes left of this entire season for our MAIN LADY WHISTLEDOWN PLOT……Great… needless to say that the Lady Whistledown reveal felt rushed, such as the other pivotal plotlines, and could have been portrayed so much better.
Sir?? I’m confused…deeply confused….The Epilogue was written nicely, but like the last time we got a way too short and cut off love scene…😣
Loved the part about the babies which were incredibly cute ❤️
Meanwhile, instead of sticking to the importance of Colin’s journals as in the book, we see one of them for a brief second and that’s it…we get their final kiss which was very sweet.
Fran and Jon are cute but i hate Micheala being a woman as other comments have said it takes away the importance of Frans future storyline turning Micheal into a woman
-Eloise was ok. I just miss the romance she had last season with Theo
- Cressida should have ended up with Lord Debling but he vanished
-I skipped through every Benedict storyline it was unnecessary but I did like his scenes with his siblings
- I love Kates interactions with the family
- I didn't love the Modrich's but i didn't hate them i feel like they could have been useful if the writers incorporated them into the story better
- Lady D's brothe I like him with Violet everything else was ok with him I didn't really care. I just Violet to be happy lol
I'm LGTBQ myself but I wanted Michael not Michela.
True
LOVE your reactions. I was soooo disappointed with the writing.
THANK YOU!!! And ugh agreed!! The writing was a mess
But instead, all it feels like is nothing more than “oh well it’s fine for Colin and Pen to get together.”
And it just does not work for me and it’s a real shame because Nicola deserved a better season.
And RIGHT i don’t think Cressida is gone for good after all that screen time
I don't think Cressida's gone. She's going to come back in some revenge story with Eloise or something
Wait till part 2!!! Right? So many people did say that and here we are now?! Wonder what they think about part 2.
NAH bc they were mad at me saying “wait until part 2” okay babe I did and it still didn’t deliver 😂
I’ve been waiting for this 🙈😝 you definitely should do more of these they’re so good and I love the way you breakdown and analyze the show
It seemed like Colin cared more about pen in part 1 even though they were friends.
That makes sense!! I wonder if we’ll ever explore that route again with him
As an artist myself who often feels like a fraud, I really didn't understand Benedict's whole arc around that. I wish he had at least mentioned that he "used to dabble" or something like that so we could get some kind an opportunity for Benedict's actor to show some emotion this season. I feel like we got nothing from him this season except very shallow, surface level scenes to move the plot forward.
If you’re going to rewrite a story atleast make it better than the original. They destroyed Collin’s character

I absolutely LOVE ❤ this season. That's all I have to say.
Realll
The writing, pacing and editing was so bad. Incompetent.
I think Benedict didn’t say anything about being an artist because it’s still a sore spot for him…all the thing about the art academy
Everyone gay now 😂
It's two people, it wont hurt you
it's becoming riverdale
All cause the "showrunner" inserted herself into the story. She is terrible at her job. Cant write for shit
I thought the same when Lady Tilly mentioned the cook! Like why does the cook matter..
The new showrunner destroyed the show
The other plots were enjoyable.
Subbed straight up for telling the 'phobes to eff off ❤
It was a bit confusing for those of us who are fans of the books because the are drifting away and alot if adjusting to plots ok but not the books.
Girl, I agree with almost everything you said. I just wanted to say that you're very beautiful, respectfully.
I thought there was supposed to be a scene where they broke furniture
I agree. Stick to the storyline of the books
5:35 thank you! I thought the same thing
Benedict gave up art right since Anthony paid for his way into school right? Probably why he didn’t address his art.
No need for gay relationships in every show its exhausting
So part 2 was definitely better than part 1 but not amazing.
Colin is still boring but he was definitely better in this part.
Penelope and her relationship with her mother was very interesting. I really liked the direction they took with it.
Benedict’s storyline was a bit… frustrating? I was totally rooting for him to be bi but I was expecting it in a bit more of a love story or a little crush, something cute. I just found it a little cliche like “yeah he is bi so put him in a threesome”. Maybe I am the only one but I was expecting something more romantic? Idk.
(The “I don’t make art” comment was because of the fact that Anthony paid the art academy to accept Benedict which made him question his talent in season 2)
Eloise is probably my favourite character but I never realized how bad of a friend she is 💀. Like she really didn’t care when Cressida was asking for help and then was mad at her for doing shitting things. Like girl- she has no one except you and you don’t give a shit.
I am really excited to see the direction they will take with Francesca and Michaela (I didn’t read the books). I hope it will be well done.
Show was to short need more episodes episodes
This commentary is garbage. Is this commentator on speed? The chemistry was there for people who can access their five senses.
The chemistry is there look at the carriage scene. The issue is the show runner and the writers.
The queerphobia in this fandom is actually insane, the reactions to Benedict and Fran tell me everything I need to know about the people who are hating
Also the racist saying John is ugly? That man is gorgeous?😭
No, you're just homophobe if you don't accept Michaela
whenever you disagree with anyone you yell homophobia or racism. got it
