I just did this yesterday. Found a great book about a Quaker family that came from Ireland in the late 1600 to PA. It contained information about a few of my ancestors including descriptions of them. It was fabulous.
I watched this video when I was first researching my colonial roots. Since that time, I have learned that my family also traces back to the first Dutch settlers. My 10th great grandfather Wolphert Gerretse van Kouwenhoven. His daughter married into the Van Voorhees famly. This was all very surprising to learn! The information in this video was very helpful!
Another extremely useful video - contains very detailed instructions on how to make use of the zillions of data bases and books that Ancestry makes available. I'm going to start using it right now. I may not come up for air for many many hours. Thanks Crista.

Doris Hill that is interesting my mom was doing a little searching on some more of my family and who our ancestors are and there is a cemetery here in Pennsylvania with Quakers barried in it where I have some family on my mom's side also barried I'm a a descendent of John Tripp the founder. There are tripps, Millers, and Quakers all in the cemetery which we are also related to the Millers in my family as well so I wonder if they are all connected some how.🤔
Part 2: Would recommend you show what types of information to enter from several different types of examples - a document saved from familysearch or newspaper; a scanned document from your personal collection; a book or magazine. You've done a similar presentation (I plan to again watch and review), but recommend this be more along the format of 'citations for dummie.' Very basic; step by step and maybe 'stock' entries that we could copy and adapt to what we are saving.

I have a question about the surname change in spelling. One of my lines surname is spelled Kenison. By 1850 or so it was written into the census as kennison. Took me forever to find that 1900 census to go back further. However I can't go back further than my 2nd great grandparents in that line. Supposedly my 2nd great grandfather's father was born in Canada Eng. His mother New Hampshire. However my grand aunt told me that she thinks my 3rd great grandparents were from Canada and got married

I would love any videos on tracing english immigrants to massachussets during the 1600s. Several people have trees that include a certain ancestor who came to America (married in Cambridge, Mass 1637) some time prior to his marriage, but have found nothing about where in England he came from. There may have been a name change, but no way to trace him to England.
Most of these "gateway ancestors" (as they are called) have been well documented by the New England Historical and Genealogical Society. You might want to contact them.
Lysa Green There is a book you can buy that lists the ships and its passengers that came to various US ports from 1600- 1825. The US only keeps immigration records to 1829, so this book is your best bet. Google it.
I am having problems finding my grandmother's parents and their parents in Hawaii. I found her parents John and Mary Marks along with her and her sister and brother in a 1920 census. I know her father came from portugal and her mother was born in hawaii but her parents came from portugal. I found a 1930 census for a John and Mary Mendes with my grandmother. We do have a postcard saved that was addressed to my grandmother as Elizabeth Mendes in '32. However her maiden name is Marks.
I have a branch on my tree that possibly goes back to Jamestown "Twitty". I also have a branch that were lifelong friends with Frank and Jesse James "Hudspeth". Maybe even part of the James Younger gang. What I'm curious about is I just discovered that my boyfriend is actually My 5th cousin. It's a bit odd to find out we share our 5th GGP's since I've know him most of my life. Just how many people are married to distant cousins and don't know. I recognised his Gma's maiden. Wish I hadn't lol

His decadent the second Joseph Chandler (born 1739)is our common ancestor. then It splits I am from the 3rd Joseph and my husband from James Chandler.

Don't forget the Palatines. Who spread out from New Amsterdam up the Hudson valley to Mohawk valley and Pennsylvania.

Both of my parents in family came to New England in the early 1600's via Boston. They were Quakers with Money.
I always think it's interesting that the separatists were called "Protestants" because they literally "protested" concerning religion.
