Mail day! I've received in the mail two new pedals, the famed JHS Notaklon and a mystery Wren and Cuff pedal (that I didn't choose).
Let's talk about a very common trick companies, musicians, and people use to grab our attention - and most importantly get you to remember them. We live in a world where information flows so fast, it's easy for things to be scrolled past in the blink of an eye. How do you stand out in a world like that?
We do a play through of the Wren & Cuff Tall Font Russian, from their custom shop, as well as the JHS Notaklon.
KISS is the greatest rock band of all time - Agree or Disagree?

I got my first KISS album, KISS ALIVE II, in 1979 when I was 9 years old. I loved KISS. My friends and I would play the records and get some broomsticks and pretend to be KISS (space heaters on to ensure appropriate rock star sweating). A few years later I got into punk and turned by back on KISS and everything I used to listed to that wasn't punk (except AC/DC, but that's another story). A few years after that I started expanding my horizons again and digging into punks past, The Stooges, MC5, Velvet Underground, and well, you get the idea. And at some point in the mix I bought Destroyer again. It's a great album. All the old 70's KISS albums are really. And their stage shows, their schtick, are spectacular and changed the face of live rock and also multiple other genres. Fast forward 44 years and last month I also saw KISS for the first and last time. It was one of their last 10 shows and a friend asked me to go. I vacillated because I don't usually go to concerts that big, but ultimately I went to my fist KISS concert and it was without a doubt everything my 9 year old self wanted to see and hear. But is KISS the greatest rock band of all time? Musically, no. Don't get me wrong, I love the music and they have more hooks than your average bait and tackle shop, but there are still, in my opinion, better musicians and music out there. However, taken as a whole, the music, showmanship, stage show, and more pyrotechnics than most big budget action films, yeah, they are the greatest rock band of all time. They fundamentally changed what people expected a rock concert to be and have written more ear worm producing songs than just about anybody. Hell, I was so blown away I actually joined the KISS army for the first time in my life just so I could tell myself I had done it while they were still performing. Is it schtick, yup. Is it awesome, yup. I mean, they tell you right at the beginning, you wanted the best, you got the best, the hottest band in the world...KISS!

I bought a Notaklon, my first pedal purchase, and I play drums. I did purchasing for decades ( different companies), and saw salesmen do dog and pony shows, just to get you to buy their products. This was savvy marketing and a excellent way to bring new business in. My purchase was for a Christmas gift. Thanks for your time. Happy Holidays.

Haha! I’ll admit, I’ve never listened to them on purpose, and I was comped the tickets to see them recently. Seeing them live was definitely an experience and a band doesn’t have that staying power if they didn’t do something right. Am I going to listen to them now? Maybe? But the point of my video is even if you don’t like them, you know who they are and what they do.

Cool video. Both pedals sounded quite good actually, I was pretty impressed with the Notaklon. Seems like a great buy if you know how to wire or want to learn.

I dont just think this is just a gimmick, its a great way to lower costs and musician can tend to be a bit broke.

Totally agree, though after seeing how fast this pedal came together, I'm sure they don't save much in terms of cost by releasing this as a kit. It's maybe 5 minutes of work for a trained professional.

You started to lose me with the 40 year old blanket statement about comedians. And then you definitely lost me by trying to use a 35 year old clip of Bobcat Goldthwait as proof of that. Are you going to bring up Marshall stacks and teased hair next? "Everybody knows you need a leather jacket to play that rock and roll music."
Everything I referenced in the video I love! And regarding Marshall stacks, yes they are to a degree a schtick - look at Yngwie Malmsteen’s stage rig, the Marshall wall is what he is known for, and therefore an awesome shtick!
