Good luck in your own home, Gayle! About homeownership and clutter. Owning a home brings in a lot more things, just to maintain a house. (vs. renting) like house paint, house appliances and building materials , outdoor supplies. On the other hand, owning a house shifts focus from busying personal things ....over to buying things for a house. The good news is that when anyone moves from their own house eventually, they only have to pack up their own personal items. And they can leave behind or give away all the "house" things.
If you've never given away aspirational clutter, or supplies and tools for an activity that isn't "you" any more, I can assure you that it's a GREAT feeling to know that someone else is going to use them. Especially if that person might not have been able to afford to buy them. When I left my apartment upon retiring, to move across country and buy a small RV to travel in, I got rid of pretty much every thing I owned. Among the stockpiles were tons of art supplies I had bought but never used, because I have tremors in my hands, which gradually got worse and made it impossible for me to paint or draw. My apartment building was near several colleges, including an art school, many of whose students were my neighbors. I put out all those art supplies on the furniture in the lobby, with "free" signs. Everything disappeared. I felt great, knowing it would all be used.
What a Great feeling to be Free of all that stuff. .. it can be alot of work moving, especially if you haven't done it in a while, but i really Enjoy the feeling of starting Fresh again. 😊
Items like bicycles & books -> a person really needs to schedule on the calendar to have any hope of ever using or reading in most cases. I find this works for myself.😊
Wow! That was a good one! So much to relate to and so much to incorporate into my life. Thank you! Your own moving struggles are so down to earth, love hearing them. Please tell us more!
My advice for someone with materials they are afraid to use--- make it your challenge to use them up on a grand scale, you'll never know what you could have done if you don't do anything.
Wow.. the husband who put up w/ boxes blocking his path 😳 my husband never would have put up w/ that = it definitely would have been moved & I would have done the same. The difference btwn myself & my husband = I would have found a permanent & better location. 😊

Congrats on buying a house, a lot of people have been hurt by rent increases so I'm glad you had a way out.
