    Never doubt that a master fabricator can marry a international bed to a Ford truck to a Chevy lift and make it work on the fly! Paul you are a master. and along with your brother Ben, the challenges Fab Rats sees on a daily basis will be met and conquered! Any company would love to have Fab Rats on their team! Thank you all for your sharing, thank you Michelle for your expert editing! I can hardly wait to see what comes next...

    I was screaming at the TV, "nooooo don't weld that!" Lol. The frame you had going forward actually goes underneath the lift to hold it up at rest. You put the lift in place and let the bed all the way down before connecting so the lift rests properly. Did a lot of these back in the day including a pto wet kit.

    We have a highway that runs through our town with three or four stop lights. We had an overloaded gut truck lose a bit of its load every time it took off from a stoplight. A little stomach here, a little intestine there, even a few skull bits. It was the crime of the century in our town, according to some of the easier offended.

    Fun one to watch! I appreciated the part where Paul added the square tube support saying, "I don't want to die today." A well-known local heavy equipment operator died about ten years ago when the hydraulics on his dump truck failed while he was working under there. That was quite tragic.
    After Paul's project was finished, I couldn't help but feel like there needed to be either fenders attached to the flatbed or some sort of protection built around the hydraulic pump and reservoir. It's looking awfully exposed under there!

    Paul, if you had turned the scissor lift around the other way so that the middle hinge point was towards the cab, then you could have still used the hole in the bed to mount a gooseneck ball on a plate under the flap. Also, the other piece that you welded to the frame in the front looked to be a stand up safety lockout to brace the bed up when it is open for maintenance.

The way you do it is so much faster. You make a bracket and then you hold in place and weld it. Thank you. On another note when you started welding the part of the scissor onto the truck frame I yelled loud enough from that you should have heard me from Virginia saying No! NO! Granted my work truck has a little bigger hinge pins on a flatbed dump bed f350 dually, but it has a B&W flatbed turnover ball that works great. It is welded to the upper frame under the bed, and with the ball turned over it clears the ram hinge by about 5-6”. The only downside is that there are times it takes a little extra to get the hitch out if you have been dumping fine grained material.

  • @barrytimm5497
    @barrytimm5497 Рік тому

    You had me worried there for a few minutes when I could see the initial geometry was way off! In order to directly bolt the top of the cylinder to the bed, the pivot point of the ram on the chassis would have had to be exactly in line with the pivot point of the bed to the chassis at the back. Your ram's pivot point was way forward, so you had to have that scissors link to allow the difference in length as the ram raised and lowered. Good job on figuring out a workaround that did a great job!

    You mention yellow submarine and it reminds me of my friend and fabricator Kevin Woods he built a wet sub around 1980 and ran it all around New Zealand. Great job on the dump bed

    Paul you are so amazing! Your seat of the pants engineering seems to always work, with a few tweaks of course.

    The mission of the fabricator is to fabricate. But I think physics come into play when installing a dumb bed. And there's no sense in fixing a part that is connected thru hinges to another part. But , again, the path of the fabricator is mysterious! 😁
