As someone rightly mentioned , the cover I took off seems to be a non OEM one anyway, but it was still a OEM airfilter, thanks for mentioning that because I did think it looked a bit "open" ha! Hope you enjoyed the video and Thanks for watching.

I didn't quite see the filter cover when you removed it but the standard OEM Cover has a trumpet on it with an opening of about an inch. Effectively the air enters this trumpet and then turns through 90 degrees before entering the filter and air box. With the DNA cover the opening is around an inch larger and air enters into the filter directly. There are a number of replica filter covers on the market and some owners have modified their own, the DNA filter itself also provides increased air flow.
Some people suggests it makes the engine mixture run leaner, no it doesn't, the ECU has capacity to compensate for that - if it didn't you would have rough running issues, EML Light problems and it would eat Spark Plugs. The increase is noticeable both on inclines and makes overtakes a little easier with the increased throttle response. DNA has invested a large amount of money in developing this filter upgrade and from memory their Dyno figures suggests it gains another 2 BHP at the back wheel, not to be sneezed at when you're starting with such a low output in standard spec. Their is also a noticeable increase in torque which shows through when performing overtakes.
As for fitting the Fuel X, I wouldn't bother. Owners report little or no difference in performance. I'm on my 3rd Meteor and have fitted the DNA filter to all 3 of them, it's one of the most cost effective upgrades you can do to this bike, as for the increased induction roar, you get used to it.🙂👍

Hi Steve. When you took the side panel off, it looks as if, it’s already ? Had the Hitchcocks open cover fitted. Which is half the price of the DNA cover.
The original cover is snorkel based, with small opening at bottom right corner.
So your findings would be slightly reduced, due to it already having the open filter cover, with standard filter.
But good that you was able to feel the difference. Which is a win win!😊

Had a DNA filter in mine for over a year and it does increase the noise and give a boost.
If you're going uphill on motorway for example it has a tendency to hold the speed better with less drop off on power. Well worth it.👍

If you feel it benefits from the upgrades then great. I fitted a DNA filter and a booster plug to my old Interceptor. With the induction roar it definitely sounded better but I i couldn't notice any difference in performance. I've recently fitted a booster plug to my T100 to smooth out the previously snatchy throttle and its help a lot.

Hi mate the air filter cover you removed was already an open flow cover maybe a Hitchcock's one the standard one has like a really restrictive trumpet looking openning on it so can't see how it's made a difference by just fitting the DNA filter and cover ? 0:14 Mmm I don't think the statement 'a lot more power' is quite accurate, it improves the mid range pick up and throttle response, but any power increase is moderate 😊 the holy trinity of upgrades for the J-series engine is a de-cat pipe, the dna performance air filter and cover, and the fuel X lite to richen up the fueling 👍🏻

A good way to remove the weak mixture restrictions imposed by Euro 5 regs. Booster Plug does the same but costs a lot more.

@@exeterrider You're right, ER. A constantly lean mixture will accelerate engine wear and eventually cause damage to valves and pistons as well as causing excess engine heat. In an effort to overcome this problem manufacturers have had to generally increase engine capacity. The crappy ethanol fuel doesn't help either.

At 4:18, the air cover on is not the factory fitted cover. Yours already has the DNA cover fitted. The cover is what makes the biggest difference, (that and a couple of thousand miles to loosen the engine). I’m at 3,000 miles now, fitted the DNA cover at about 1,200 miles. Immediately noticed a difference, not arm wrenching, but better. At about 2,000 miles I removed it and put factory one back in, just to see if the difference was psychological and noticed its absence through subtly less power, it has been back on ever since.

I do my chain lubing the same way. I hate spraying crap all over my bike so prefer to do a hand job with a nice smooth glove on 🫢
As you know, I have to keep my Buddy standard until the first MOT is done, which will be next May. After that I will look into getting some Hunter springs and then, if I get bored, maybe do this. Although I do worry that it will result in higher fuel consumption as the ECU adds more fuel to adjust for the increase in oxygen coming in. Being tight, I'd rather burn less fuel than burn more for a little bit of added grunt. I'm sure you'll let me know how the fuel consumption is working out, post mod 👍
