- Heavy Grain Train Crossing Interlocker With 3 Norfolk Southern Locomotives + CSX Box Cab Locomotives Pull New Looking Boxcars That Are 41 Years Old! 4 Trains In Hamilton, Ohio with a CSX double stack intermodal and the old B&O train station sees a Canadian Pacific Locomotive! The old train station in Hamilton will be moved and restored. Amtrak runs by here 3 round trips a week but does not stop. Hamilton is talking about bringing back Amtrak service just like nearby Oxford, Ohio is going to do. The city is talking about restoring the station nearby and using it for Amtrak once again. It's far fetched but maybe it could happen some day. The day that I filmed this it was freezing cold because of the heavy winds. It was 23 degrees Fahrenheit but with the wind it really froze my hands. I came here because it snowed over night and I was hoping to see some trains in the snow. There was barely a covering. At my house we got about 3 inches of snow but there weren't any trains in my area so I went north to Hamilton and got disappointed with only a dusting of snow if that. Winter is just about over. The best train in this video is the CSX local with the Sponge Bob square cab locomotives that were pulling some boxcars that looked brand new. The boxcars were recently painted and only one had graffiti on it. They were built in February of 1981 so they only have about 9 years left on them. The old dilapidated abandoned buildings next to the tracks are the remains of a big paper company that closed down almost a decade ago. They use to have sidings for them and boxcars were switched there with rolls of paper in them. Norfolk Southern shares the tracks here with CSX and this is ex Baltimore And Ohio Railroad territory. The old B&O signals were replaced not very long ago. I have them in my videos. The intermodal train had 376 axels. Filmed March 12, 2022.
Filmed in 4K.

It looked nice 👌
Thank you 😋
That old blue building beside the tracks was it a hotel years ago,its similar in architecture as the one we have in our town in ILLINOIS
Truck footage looked great! No need to freeze! Stay warm so you don't become cracked tooth! Lol..... Great video, thanks very much!
Thanks 👍
That was good news to hear that the depot will be saved.
I hope to be able to film them doing the restoration and moving the structure
Jaw Tooth The move will be interesting to see. Do you know if they plan to move it as is in one piece, or some to major disassembly?
3rd train lead engine 4488 how kewl. JUST occurred to me B, if Hamilton wants Amtrak , why move the old depot, just fix it up where it sits and sell tix from there??
CSX wanted it moved

Thanks for watching!
I love this man's enthusiasm when it comes to trains.
thanks!
Nope, couldn’t tell you were shooting from the truck. Great catches for another awesome video
And it looked as if the CP locomotive had a prancing horse on the front of it, making me wonder when Ferrari started building locootives.
Jaw Tooth thumbs up for a good show I think I meant into train depots one in Dillsboro North Carolina someone in Marshville North Carolina with series it's gone now had a good time at Dillsboro model trains inside and course they had all kind of festivities going on there and it's it's a train that you ride through the mountains it doesn't go anywhere in particular I don't think it can even get on Mainline no more I don't know enjoy your show thank you sir God bless you and your family
Thank you for giving up your time so you can bring us your fans these awesome videos. They are truly fantastic....made all the richer by the sounds of horns and brakes....💪🇺🇸
Glad you like them!
I'm glad you don't put any music in your vids except at the beginning and end. I've had a few train videos pop up lately that the person or persons doing them had a music track over most if not all of their videos. I don't understand or like that. I don't know the name or names and I didn't subscribe to them.
Big LIKE 😏👍
Thanks!
Heard from some of my old home town Hamburg, NY (snowbelt along Lake Erie) peeps that that whole section of the country is getting slammed... cold and snow. Probably should put up a BIG WALL along the Canadian border with electric heating coils in it. Good to see that you're wearing a hat. Stay warm. 80°F high today here, but we're expecting T-storms mañana and dropping down to highs in only the mid to upper 70s the next three days. Gracias por tu video. RT sends... envía... Colonia Centro Histórico, Puebla, México... P.S. Looks like that 3 loco, grain train is doin' their part to help. Probably more supply for the moonshine-making boyz down in Kentucky and West Virginia... a huge spike in demand for hooch with all that cold.
Love the horns on those smaller EMD engines. Cool to see that CP engine too. Thanks for sharing!
Thanks for watching!
I.. love. The. Trains. Rooster. Crowing. Dog. Cat. Its. Great
It is understandable to want AMTRAK at both places, yrs ago I left that old train station in Hamilton headed to Chi on one of the last Steam engines to service Hamilton. Beside Oxford has the University there, so very understandable. Amtrak to CHI for additional travel would be good too.
I hope they do it. They need to make Amtrak available during the day also
Very cool, interesting building in the background, I like that you told us what it was. Thanks
Thanks for watching
Great news about the train station, love seeing that Canadian Pacific engine
Thank You Jaw Tooth, I have been a Cinncinati area railfan since I was a kid. I recently discoverd the Garry Kreines UA-cam channel that has videos of the Cinncy area from the 50's. I have been comparing your video's to the ones from the 50's, very interesting! Agian Many Thanks for your work in preserving this history.
Thanks for the footage JT. Brutal cold wind in OH yesterday morning!
Thanks for being here so quick!
Congrats for being so quick
Great Catches!
What's that light-grey building right next to the grade crossing? Back in those days nobody objected to putting white "carpenter's lace" on a factory uilding's windows.
Amazing videos jaw tooth keep up the good work
Thanks! Will do!
Great video Jawtooth! Great news on the old depot! Really glad there saving it! Thanks for enduring the cold and bringing the train's to us!
Thanks again!
The Frozen Tundra of Hamilton, Ohio. Who would have thunk ? 😬 Glad to hear the Train Station is being Saved and Moved. 👍
15:46 The old style intermodal wellcars, I don't see many of those around anymore like I use to back in the 1980s.
I love these train compilations keep it up
Thanks, will do!
@ 00:33... because
Thank you for braving the cold wind in Hamilton, Ohio on 12 March 2022 to document these trains. That was a very long Norfolk Southern grain that crossed over the tracks to make its way to the Norfolk Southern yard in Cincinnati, Ohio. There were a lot of bare tables on that CSX intermodal train at the end of the video. I enjoyed watching this video!
Very welcome! Thanks for watching and commenting!
It wouldn't surprise me if in the not too distant future we see an intermodal with all bare tables and not a single container.
@@BudgieJane I think that I have seen a video of a train that had only bare tables. It was just an engine or two and bare tables for at least a half-mile. I do not remember whose UA-cam channel had that train though. Now that I am thinking about a total bare table train I am thinking that it may have been a Deshler, Ohio.
Track switching is always a treat.
Seems odd seeing empty container cars and short sets these days after what we're used to.
Truck view was awesome and undetectable .
Stay safe, everyone. 🙏🇺🇦
Totally agree
@@JawTooth truck window view was undetectable and you stayed warmer. Win for us/Win for you
Some realy nice trains you caught there Jawtooth -a shorty train or two are always good !! GATX cars looked brand new -or fresh repaints? Looked cold too -you take care out there !
Regards
Thank you very much!
Fresh repaints. Built 1981, refurbished 2021. You can tell they're old cars from the door-latching mechanism. Actually, I didn't know they were still using those latches (the ones with the two handles that cross in a V-shape) in the 1980s -- I associate them with the '60s and even earlier.
A excellent video of the trains. Since, I live in Detroit, Michigan. The weather temperatures 🌡 will be a Roller Coaster.
Yesterday, Sunday, March 13th.,the temperature 🌡 was 20 degrees and snow ❄. Today, Monday, March 14th.,and Tuesday, March 15th. The temperatures 🌡, will be in the lower 50's and sunny 🌞 ☀️ 😎. Wednesday, March 16th.,and Thursday, March 17th.,the weatherman had predicted, that we will be flirting with the 60's.
Pretty much the same
Here in Kalamazoo, Michigan
There was a train through La Grange a couple of weeks ago led by a KCS and a Canadian Pacific locomotive. And had a Canadian National dpu
Cool upside down redeyemob graffiti. First time for everything. Haa
Nice catch’s jaw
Thanks!
Hamilton sure has the train traffic go through there.Be safe Brian.
I would like to catch Amtrak there someday
@@JawTooth It goes through there about 2:30 am on the way to DC. We took it east out of Union Terminal and boarded around 3:00 am or so. I think it was about 2:00 am when we got off at Union Terminal headed west towards Chicago. Don't quote me on those times though. (Lol) You could always check their schedule online.
I haven't seen that many Box cars together in a long time.
Most likely due to driver shortage in trucking industry
So glad they're gonna save the station 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
That's a busy place for sure - 4 trains in a short time :) Stay warm, JT!
Thanks, you too!
Actually, what surprised me about the cut of box cars at 4:30 was not the relative lack of graffiti but the old-style door-latching mechanisms, with the two handles that cross in a V-shape. The stencils says the cars were built in 1981 and I didn't realise those mechanisms were in use that late. Conversely, I'm surprised that a major leaser like GATX is refurbishing and still using 40-year-old box cars (refurbed last year).
I wonder if this is because most modern box cars are 60ft hi-cubes, whereas a lot of industries have loading doors 50ft apart and/or don't have the vertical clearance for an excess-height car. Before long, most Railboxes are going to hit their 50-year retirement but there's still a lot of need for 50ft, regular-height box cars.
it's a hotspot with railroading troughout the day and a very nice scene to watch to these old buildings and industrial artifacts you almost go back in the day when everything were running if you watch the screen and by the way JT
you say the old station is going to be preserved ( that's very good to hear) and it's being replaced on a different spot but is the new spot near where it's now or an other location away from this one where it stands to this day.
BUEN DIA GRACIAS Y BUENA SEMANA.
Great video
Thanks!
I'll take a guess and say that blue/grey 4 story building was a hotel?
Good morning Good video ni e train station aw a CP neet sounds a little windy there second train was short that a nice old building third train had 3 head unit and no DPU 4 train CSX 2 head unit long train and no DPU good video
Morning!
What's the first NS unit says DC to AC? On the cab?
Originally, diesel locomotives used a DC generator to power DC traction motors. From some time in the 1970s, they started using AC alternators to power DC traction motors after putting the current through a rectifier to convert it to DC. That has the advantage that alternators are more reliable (and rectifiers are all solid-state electronics with no moving parts, so they're very reliable, too). More recently (late 90s? early noughties?) they've started using AC traction motors, which avoids the need for the rectifier but also has some other advantages. Vague, sorry -- I'm not an electrical engineer. I think it's something to do with low-speed pulling power. So the DC to AC thing is because the locomotive was built with DC traction motors and a rectifier, but was later converted to AC traction motors.
I’m glad they saved the train station and will restore.
We're planning to railfan there, is the first train in the video where the mil line breaks off into the short line? Great video!
No, it is at the depot in Hamilton where the CSX Indianapolis line breaks off going toward Oxford.
@@JawTooth thanks

Thanks for being here so fast!
Stay frosty Jt. Chessie as your sidekick is the best.
That train with the CP AC4400CW was just the right length! Much more manageable than the 3 mile land barges! Much safer too!
Good excellent video, mr Jaw Tooth.
That was a busy day in Hamilton with 4 trains. What they gonna do with the old trainstation not replacing upgrade with terraces van when trainspotters filming and fotography the trains drink a cup coffee and eat a burger or pizza or fried chicken.
Greet from Zandvoort the Netherlands
Not sure yet but they are saving it. They are talking about getting Amtrak to stop again
Didn't know you were in the truck..save your fingers! Some of these old buildings and mills are classic ghosts from the past a bygone era that you have to love. When they are all boarded up like that it looks like some kind of dystopian future,,oh yeah I guess it is! It's here now..Laughs! Something about the forlorn blast of a locomotive horn in the cold or night that appeals to me on some kind of melancholy,,or nostalgic level. OK,,I starting to get too poetic here.
You're a real trooper to be out there in that freezing weather! Watch for frostbite! Thanks for bringing this to us.
meant to say BNSF as yard power, and I caught upside down graffiti done from the top of a grainer just last week, so!
Nice!!
Good video Jawtooth. Saturday night here in Georgia we got a very light dusting of snow, probably less than a quarter of a inch. Most of it is completely gone now and it's getting warmer weather every day.
Oh wow! Didn't know it snowed all the way in Georgia. Ours melted yesterday
@@JawTooth the governor say no to the Amtrak purposel
It seems to me that you don't often see a Canadian Pacific locomotive at the head of a train, cars more often. Thank you for these pictures.
Thank you very much!
You always do a great job with your videos, Jaw Tooth!!! Thanks, and please keep them coming!!!
8.5 in in Jackson Ohio
Jaw~very inasne . 👌
Thanks for watching!
Who'd have thought you'd see that many railbox cars in one train?
Good Morning
Are you gonna film when the start moving to depot????
Yes, if I know about it
First
Thanks for being first person to comment Andy!
Congrats
The build date on one of the box cars was in Feb 1981. So they probably just recently went through the 40 year rebuild. That extends their interchange life from 40 years to 50 years.
Couldn't tell you were in the truck. Looks like the first NS had a turbo fire at one time. One of the CSX as well. Is Chessie chewing on an antler? Oddly, I'm eating venison right now. Norfie at the vet - boy does that look familar!
I love it! Great video as always! Those boxcars were probably rebuilt and repainted! I doubt they were new with this precision scale railroading they do now. They sure do look great though! If I were the railroads, I would make any caught taggers sentences be to have to repaint the cars and other equipment they deface! This would deter them from vandalizing anything else! What do you think?
I was all set to write that that grain train was impressive because there wasn't an odd car in the lot, then I saw the next to last car.
Did you like those freshly painted red boxcars?
@@JawTooth Unfortunately just a blank canvas for the next TAG ARTIST/ vandal/whatever. They tried to stop it in my town by limiting spray cans to one per customer. it did not work. The Rustolium people must be loving it. How long would it take to paint the entire side of an autorack with a spray can? I have seen it more than once.
There was another of those cars about sixth in the consist. So two odd cars out of however many it was.
@@JawTooth , I did. I thought they were brand new. I never occurred to me that they might be rebuilds with fresh paint. It's to bad that one of them was tagged already.
🇳🇱👍👍👍👍👍👍👍🍀
Thanks for watching!
The rail network should be expanded instead of just restoring old train stations. Passenger cars and cars for stacked automobiles of the passengers. And, as always, thanks for this video!
Pretty awesome
Upside down graffiti isn’t weird. It’s actually really impressive
I bet it took a lot of time to do that. interesting
Yes! The 'artist' knew that Sawtooth (and others) would like it.
Pretty clever on the part of that tagger, it makes their work different from all the rest. Ya sure noticed it and commented on that tag.
great seeing a good old fashion freight train..only thing missing on it was a caboose
great video
Thank you very much!
Saving that station is great news. How will they move it? Will they dismantle the station and rebuild it? Do you have any information on where the station will be rebuilt? Thanks. :)
Jaw Tooth great video as usual. Just before you went to Chessie and Norfie in the vid there was an old steam tank engine behind you. Where was that? Also couldn't tell you were in the truck for the intermodal train.
No, I could not tell you were in the truck. But I did notice you were not panning the camera. Why don’t you get a good pair of gloves like skiers wear.
Ham -town!!!!
I love all of your train videos on csx and Amtrak Norfolk southern cprail
Was beginning to think it's National Short Train day....
That sure was a long train on that last train in the video. I didn't notice you were in the car while filming it. Still, I appreciate your willingness to put up with the cold for these winter videos. Thank you for all you do.
NS over here uses quite a few BNSF and some CP foreign power on NS runs through this way often.
The boxcars appear new. Nobody has had the chance to tag them yet.
They're just newly refurbished. Built in 1981, according to the stencils.
It's a shame so much stock is covered in graffiti/tags. Most of it looks awful
It would be neat to restore the old blue painted building in Hamilton to Railfan hotel....
I was out in that windy cold Saturday too, but up in Dayton and just for the time it took me to walk from my car into the Air Force Museum. Looks like I got my yellow RailBox car fix for the day!
I see Jason sent you a hat.
Yes, that was last year. I have it in videos from last winter also
I'm so glad they're saving that old B&O depot. They don't make them like that anymore. I wonder what it would cost to build that these days. You know they used good quality stuff in those days because so many selling it made it very competitive and kept the prices down. I bet it's a $multi-million building these days.
Thanks once again. I never miss a video.
Brrrr
Jawtooth , you rock the train action . This land locked foamers lovin
every minute of it ! ! Thanks Man ! ! I'll be watching !
Hi jaw tooth uh I make some train videos like UP trains
Shorter and faster trains also keep moving and there is less chance for the taggers to do their thing!
I don’t have a problem with engines running across our borders, north or south, on through interchange trains. What I do have a problem with is foreign ownership of US companies. I also don’t like US companies buying foreign companies either.
Shortly after the CN got the I C the CN was going to move the dispatchers to Canada. Our government stopped it. But I am not sure if they were able to do it at a later date. I hope not.
Looks great 👍 ho idea in truck
Thanks 👍
I am glad they are painting the model type on these engines.
I could not tell. Stay warm.
Thanks, I might do more like that in poor weather
Canadian pacific is all I get where I live in Minnesota. Kinda miss seeing the CSX trains I always would back in New York. It’s cool to see the variety!
1. 37; 2. 19; 3. 90; 4. 127; Total 273.
Thanks for counting cars Michael!
Thx JT I appreciate it....I love Norfie
Me too!
@@JawTooth did you name her after Norfolk Southern cuz she's a black 🐈⬛?
Great catches box cars look great , one question that large blue building in the back ground was that and old hotel. Great save on the old depot .
It was an abandoned paper mill
@@michaelhewitt258 thank you
Thanks for watching!
Hello jaw tooth I like your train videos also I like your Dodge Ram it's nice looking truck
Thanks 👍
Nice video keep them coming
Great video JT and it seems that Hamilton, Ohio always seems to be a HOTSPOT to railfan! I'm a BIG FAN of the SPONGEBOB engines and they always have the best horns on them! For the most part you can recognize whether its NS or CSX by their horns. Hopefully the weather starts to get better up that way soon. We're in the 60's this week and 70 on Friday. Thanks again for sharing your videos especially with the time and effort you put in to give us the BEST FOOTAGE!
