Tom has this amazing interview about this song. The quote is, "I think we hit on soemthing that sounded like adolescence lashing out over being caught in the middle of a storm that they had no control of." Song hits way harder after hearing that and putting words to the emotions.
I listened to this song a lot as a teenager. My mom and the handful of step dad characters in my life fought a lot, and fought hard. One of them was a bad alcoholic, and one time even walked around the house with a gun. On a couple of occasions I called a friend to run to my place and meet at my little sisters window. I'd sneak her out and hand her to my friend outside. He'd take her to his house and I'd stay to wait and see if the fight died down, or wait to see if I needed to jump in. Idk what I'd do since I was 14 and he was a marine. Lol Life eventually got better, but between 13 and 16 that was a pretty nornal event at my place. This song, plus many other from Blink, and my other favorite bands, helped me get through it. Blink is tied for my favorite band, and once I had someone sort of laugh at that since so much of their catalog is music a lot of people grow out of. I told that person that in my 30's I may not currently relate to a lot of what they sing about anymore, but I'll always relate to myself. Blink was such an important band for me at that age, and I'll always have the memories that go hand in hand with their music. Both the good and the bad. Because of that, they'll always be on my playlist. I recommend checking out Not Now, Reckless Abandon, After Midnight, Give Me One Good Reason, Anthem Pt 2, Hold On, Going Away To College, Aliens Exist and Story of a Lonely Guy. All great songs. Just random favorites of mine. Honestly everything from Dude Ranch to Neighborhoods is worth hearing. People shit on Neighborhoods, but fuck them, there are some great songs on there.
Want some dark and/or moody Blink? I got you! Not Now Ghost on the Dance Floor Adam’s Song Stockholm Syndrome Asthenia After Midnight All of This (featuring Robert Smith) Violence Honestly, the entirety of Untitled (2003) might be what you’re looking for
its almost like this is also about the band...wasent this around the time where they were kinda about to break up? i always thought this was about them breaking up ._. i just watched the music video and found out its about divorce
