    R I P to the memory of Anne Frank. May her soul be comforted with love and peace after how much pain and suffering both her and her family and her people went through. #Respect

      sorry, that comment does not make this video acceptable. Trixie is making money by making fun of a person who died in a concentration camp and people are handing her money!!! ! Did we roll back time 75 years>? We cannot scream about the injustices happening today against minorities and then applaud disgusting bigotry at night clubs. Cancel this clown and expose her for who she truly is. There are so many TALENTED drag queens who hone their craft with blood, sweat and tears, this is not an example of a person who has done that. Antisemitism and bigotry should never be applauded!

    My perspective on this as a Jewish person... is complicated. I don't think the intentions were bad, and I don't think the 'joke' of the piece is actually making fun of Anne, the holocaust or Jewish people. I understand the concept of bringing light to something so dark and 'untouchable' and trying to find some joy in the situation. I heard Brian talk about it, he said he was inspired by the fact that Anne just wanted to be a normal teenage girl but never got that opportunity, and that she wrote about hoping for there to be more humour and lightness in the world. In that context I can see this being meant as a kind of loving tribute, I can see positivity in the intention.
    On the other hand, I don't think this was Brian's story to tell. If this act was done by a Jewish queen I might feel differently, but it's important that it comes from a place of lived/generational experience, and Brian doesn't have that connection to the issue. There's an entitlement in claiming Anne's story for your own benefit as a non-Jewish person that I find really off-putting, and I don't think there was any deep, important, transformative statement being made that might have justified using such an extreme reference. It ultimately felt trivialising, and at some level seemed to be using Anne/the holocaust for shock value, to make people gasp and nervously giggle, and to get points for 'edginess'.
    In conclusion I don't think this act was done from a place of hate, in fact I think it was probably well-intentioned but coming from a place of naivety, privilege and entitlement. I don't feel deeply offended by it, but I also think it was the wrong choice. This wasn't Brian's story to tell, and the nature of the performance didn't make any kind of statement which would justify taking such a liberty. I believe in people's ability to grow, and I know this happened years ago, so I'm not here to 'cancel' or hate on anyone, but I do hope he reflects on what these performances really meant to people and apologises.
    Unfortunately as far as I can tell he seems to take a "no apologies" standpoint with comedy, and that disappoints me. It's frustrating because I feel like being part of multiple marginalised communities he should know better than that edgy-white-boy "freedom of speech" Ricky Gervais kind of outlook on comedy. He seems too smart for that, but apparently not. Unless he actually does face up to this (and other offensive jokes) at some point I'll never be able to be a proper fan, which sucks because I like a lot of his stuff.
    (^^^ obviously this is all just my personal opinion, other Jewish people might disagree with me.)

      @@VCPRPressingIssues I posted a random stream of consciousness I wrote in a few minutes, not thinking anyone would see it on this old video. I recently discovered Trixie/Brian, enjoyed his stuff and considered becoming a 'fan', but then found some things that disappointed me... am I not allowed to have an honest reaction? And if you don't care why did you reply?

      I feel pretty similarly. Like, I don’t get the point he’s trying to make. Anyone who’s actually read the book is already painfully aware that Anne Frank was just a normal teenager with all the emotional turmoil that entails. I cried my eyes out for her lost youth as much as for her lost life. So yeah, Anne longed for a normal life as a teenager, that’s not some big revelation. So I’m just confused where Trixie is going with this as I also do not think she’s trying to hurt anyone or hate anyone. But like you, I’ve never been able to be a fan since I saw that Anne Frank Snatchgame video.

    How did no one see how fucking gross and disrespectful this was? Anne frank was a child who was fucking murdered. Shes not some fun little character you should dress up and dance as and make jokes about this is exactly like when people were calling her a “bicon” im reslly disappointed in trixie for this but not surprised after seeing the amount of people who do this exact same type of shit and think its okay. If anne frank was still alive I’d be apologizing for people like this 😐

      I agree that I would love to see more of her on RDR (because I hardly watch it as it is) but honestly she doesn't need those shows. She's been doing fucking great all on her own. I mean, she was the first one to sell merch and even go to Europe after her season! Trixie doesn't needs RDR which is honestly just the Disney of doing drag.

    Why do American audiences destroy the artists show by offering $1 bills during the performance? It's cheap and annoying. Give them cash at the end of the show or pay an entrance fee

    • @meh.4161
      @meh.4161 9 років тому +8

      max mix I agree totally, but that's the norm in the U.S. & Canada too. Very annoying, especially when its a queen who's doing choreography while people are kinda shoving the scuzzy dollar bills in their face, like,"Here! Here, take my money, take my money now!" Let her perform for cryin out loud, wait til the end of performance.

    • @TennesseeRatTerrier
      @TennesseeRatTerrier 8 років тому +17

      Drag hasn't always been mainstream! When queens were first performing in the east village that's how they were paid. If it wasn't for their friends and bar patrons tipping they couldn't have afforded to do drag! The tips are on top of the cover charge. It also shows respect to the performer, a gift of appreciation! Some times with an extra thousand dollars or more, which I'm sure they are grateful for! If you were on stage, I assume you would appreciate tips as well, instead of bitching it ruins the video you're watching!

    This man disgusts me, both my great grandparents were murdered in the holocaust and she chooses to make a minstrel show about it? I would expect a Native American to be a little more compassionate to victims of genocide and not choose to make a mockery of a tragic woman who died from a macabre sadistic experiment at the hands of arguably the most evil human being in the history of the world.

      @@lyvieee161 You don't have to suffer from the effects of the holocaust, I do. You will never have any idea what it feels like for ninety percent of your family to be victims of a mass murder and having never grown up with the concept of an "extended family" because my extended family were all shoveled in gas chambers and suffocated to death. You don't know what it's like to have have I explained to you at the earliest age why you can't wear a kippah in public or else people will try to kill you, you don't know what it's like to not even be able to set foot in the county your family lived in for hundreds of years your hometown was all complicit in your families murder and wouldn't be sorry to see you suffer the same fate or even claim what once was your families home because it was confiscated from your grandparents because the Nazis didn't feel Jews were deserving of owning their own home . All these situations I have suffered from constantly and you will never, I was born sixty years after the end of the Holocaust and yet I suffer from it's ramifications everyday and the pain is excruciating. You have no right to say that I do not have license to be offended by a trash tier performer trying to make a cheap buck off the incident that has killed half my family and deprived me of a normal life.
