I like to think of it as my fingers just free to dance with the melody and rhythm. When it feels right, it is right and don't ever stop. Play it like you wrote it on the spot.

Notes of a scale, in that case I think he was talking about e major scale. 4th note, first, fifth, then sixth. If you know 4, 1, 5, 6 then you can take that progression and use it in another scale (this is called transposing). Which is essentially what you do when you put a capo on and use the same chord shapes. The capo is kind of a "transposer for dummies"

The f is actually not supposed to have a second finger anchored, the g is supposed to be a gadd11, and the am7 is supposed to be a regular am
