@@McDevittMikesame here! It sure does stand on its own. I wish Elsa lived but that would rob 1883 of its authenticity. Sure would love the continuation of the Dutton’s story right after settling in Montana. But then again it would be a change of pace and a completely different show. Not a trek across the country full of perils but more static, still perilous though. I guess I just loved the characters that much that I want to see more of them. On the other hand I feel that the way the show is is perfect. It does not overstay it’s welcome and leaves you hungry for more.
Hi all! If anyone is wondering if 1883 could stand on its own, I've never seen Yellowstone and I binge watched 1883. When I introduced it to my 65 yo parents who love westerns, they watched 8 episodes in one night. Stayed up 'til 4am.
100% agree with Sam, if it weren't tied to Yellowstone and the main characters were John and Maggie Carter, the show would still be just as good... it's fun that it's a prequal to Yellowstone, but 1883 could easily stand all on it's own!!
@@firefalcon100 the only thing that i didn't like was the fact that they killed off Ennis for her to fall in love with another guy just 1 or 2 episodes left. She fucking forgot Ennis so fast
I've seen the first 3 episodes and it is sooo good!! I've been saying for years that Tim McGraw is an underrated actor. He is such a great actor, you truly forget that he's a music superstar when watching him. Then there's Isabel May who immediately impressed me in her lead role in the controversial movie "Run, Hide, Fight." What a gem! A true natural talent. And I actually enjoy her Narration. Hill has surprised me the most. She's proving herself to be a true actress. Lastly, there's Sam Elliot , need I say more? I mean, he's Sam Elliot for crying out loud. All this talent is lead by creator, writer, director Taylor Sheridan, which is a recipe for utter perfection!!
I would watch 1883 even if it wasn't connected to Yellowstone. In fact I like it more bc I love the era of the American frontier. Great show so far and im starving for more
I wish there was a continuation of the story during the Frontier era coming to an end. But I think it would be an even harder undertaking to tell a story bridging two eras together (Frontier and a new civilized age coming).
This series, “1883,” was definitely the most epic show I’ve seen since “Roots” originally aired in the “70’s.” McGraw, and all of the other actors are so stellar in the show. If you haven’t yet seen it, literally drop everything and go watch it.
I've been a fan of Yellowstone since its first episode, and eagerly wait for each new one. That said, I immediately binge-watched the entire 1883 series in two nights when I'd only seen the first episode of it as a "freebie" after Yellowstone. Not once, but twice in a two week period. Indeed, it DOES stand on its own, as a testament to how difficult and dangerous the trip west was for the people who decided to attempt it. Taylor Sheridan is obviously reincarnated from those who survived that odyssey west, he writes it as if he had lived it. His eye for those who can portray his characters is perfect. Sam Elliot is the consummate cowboy actor, and the series would not have been nearly as good without him. He and Tim McGraw were perfect counterpoints to each other, and Tim proved he is an actor to be reckoned with in this genre, as well as others he's done. I was amazed at Faith Hill's portrayal, I've not seen her as much on the camera stage as much as the musical one. Last, and most certainly not least is the ab-so-lute-ly gorgeous Isabel May. As good as these other established artists are, she stole the show. Her narration in the vernacular of that time was like reading one of the great authors of that era. I regret her character could not survive the story, and I hope to see her many more times as her career progresses. She has a fine talent that will only improve with time.
As a Texan who was born in upper East Tennessee and whose family members came to Texas in 1866 I was thrilled to find that the Dutton family came from Tennessee. Mr McGraw makes a fine Confederate officer! 1883 is an amazing show.
I have never even watched Yellowstone (tragic, I know) but my friend introduced me to 1883. I have never been so emotionally moved by a tv show...absolutely incredible. I will be watching Yellowstone next
I'm not a tv watcher.. at all. But I decided to get me and my woman breaking bad, better call saul, and el camino on ebay. We binged it hard and ran out of material. I then got us Yellowstone, and I was hooked the whole way thru. And then I learned of 1883. 1883 is the best story telling I will ever see in my lifetime.
I think it is very special that Tim and Faith are playing James and Margaret and are actually married as well. Can't help but to want to hear them sing to the cattle or something in one episode.
I’m currently sobbing as I’ve just finished the series literally 3 minutes ago. Figured I’d educate myself as soon as I’d finished. I’m in absolute shambles right now
MAN this was good some people make westerns and just don't get it but this hit the nail on the head. Mcgraw is a for real tough guy in this..and loved Isabel sad what happen in the end there everyone was great
There where no sub-par performances, every actor was terrific but Sam Elliott was absolutely incredible, he is one of the finest actors of his generation without a doubt
Im with Sam Elliot, Never watched an episode of Yellowstone. 1883 Stands alone perfectly. Like Sam Elliot says, in 1883, there was no Yellowstone yet, not as its recognized today anyhow. Perhaps we'll learn from the writers how the indigenous nations interacted with the geologic elements of the Yellowstone area...but you dont need to be a fan of one show to enjoy the other.
Luckily I waited till I could binge all 10 episodes because I love 1883, I have no patience. So I would have gone nuts to wait a week every time to see the next episode. I love Yellowstone so much and I’m glad to have a prequel, but as the actors just said, 1883 could stand on its own. Great storytelling, really feels authentic! Next I’ll watch 1923!!!!! 🤠
Tim McGraw and Faith Hill is a great couple and the happy in their marriage they got a great marriage but I ain't never seen the movie yet cuz I don't know what channel it comes on
So here’s the thing, it’s a great story and done very historically except one thing. The white teeth are very distracting! Not to be picky but if it was historically perfect, they would’ve darkened their teeth and even black out a few teeth to show things in a more authentic way. Other than that 4 1/2 out of five stars
What people don’t understand about programs like this, being Fantasy…….. is the actors are portraying a time in our history. And if this involves guns ,well that’s part of history. Sam Elliott Tim McGraw and Faith Hill and Elizabeth Day. Outstanding work they did 1883 well. Tim McGraw As James Baltimore Dutton was fantastic. Sam Elliott what can you say about Sam Elliott he's perfect in role of a cowboy he's just perfect. Love love Faith Hill as Mama gotten yes yes yes cannot wait. And if the 4 6666 Ranch. Sam Elliot just looks so old...it’s kinda sad. I don’t see him at his age, playing that character! Don’t get me wrong, his catalog is amazing! It’s just that he looks so thin, and weak.
The show is pretty good but there's so many "movie mistakes" in it that it makes it not as appealing to me as it should be. Mainly because I feel like the show was rushed based on the success of Yellowstone and it missed the mark in a lot of areas.

This serie is so amazing it really effected me emotionally.
It stays with you for awhile probably forever.

Yes! It's definitely amazing on It's own, I've never seen Yellowstone but I'm hooked on 1883!

Seriously, all the positives of 1883 and you have to say something negative!!! Go away...
He's 77 years old, first role was Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid in 1969. So, that being said he's getting up there.
Why cause he not overweight, he's in his late 70s , he's what I aspire to be nearing 80!
Sam Elliott is awesome at any age any weight and in any role. He has always been lean and lanky. I feel he carries off his character grandly.

I believe killing off isabel Mays roll was a huge mistake
He and his wife are against the 2nd amendment and they love firearms in movies
Half of Hollywood is is against the 2nd, yet they have no problem killing each other w/ guns in movie roles for the almighty dollar.
