This sweep is an advanced technique, but it DOES work with practice and timing! Referring to the comments on my other video... of course it is much more difficult to pull off on someone heavier/bigger/taller, but when is it ever easier?

It seems like it'd be easier for tall lanky people to master this without getting hit 🤔
You didn't hit him on the way down tisk tisk Jeff
@@MaddenMagician LOL touche... but to be fair these were filmed before I made that video
@@MMAShredded haha Ill forgive it then 😂 great content brother
Imma finna use this Footwork video purchase, and the Southpaw one i bought earlier, for my first amateur Muay Thai fight in about 4 to 5 weeks. Wish me luck!
That’s a classic Muay Thai sweep. I would be surprised that people said it doesn’t work, except I’m familiar with the people of the internet, and what they really mean is “I don’t know how to that.”
Oh cool you like Jeff Chan too? Didn't expect to see the coach here haha
That’s a pretty accurate summary of my dumbass teenaged self
haha yeah I had several people from another video I posted about this. Im sure they were just trolls but many were saying I got lucky with the sweep and it doesn't work
i read it in your deep masterful voice lmao
He couldnt do this to someone who knows D.U.S.T 😂
Imo the foot sweep is the most finesse a striker can display
Perfect timing, foot position, weight management, trap setting and even feinting need to be in place
cheers :)
Absolutely
the grappling foot sweeps are even more brutal to me
Leon Edwards hit some beautiful sweeps on Punchbag Diaz.
to bad connor forgot all that stuf.
This is actually my favorite technique which I learned from Judo when I was a kid and adapted itself to kickboxing as a muscle memory reflex, it works even if it fails to throw the guy to the ground because it distracts the opponent just enough to break his continuum, I love to use it when I'm back against the ropes and the guy is peppering me, I sweep and evade out then turns the table against him lol... Thank you Jeff !!
sweet man im glad !! cheers bro!
i like this
Leg kicks are dangerous and underrated. Also unexpected.
In judo, kickboxing or MMA. I consider it a jab like maneuver that even though it doesn’t work enough to sweep the opponent, thrown well enough will always take some of the opponents balance for follow up throws sweeps, and strikes.
You can actually combo continuous sweeps, throw attempts, strikes in if your timing and sensitivity are trained up enough.
This is pretty common in Karate competitions that allow sweeping and throwing. Ie there's plenty of footage of it working lol.
And that's without posting or grabbing the head either. Which is how it's most often done in Karate.
Once you get the timing down it doesn't take much more than a good swipe at the ankle to send someone tumbling with these kinds of foot sweeps.
cheers!
I think the karate version has a more hooking motion to it, leaving you less time to follow-up with another attack right after. At least that's what I've seen in tournaments, but that said, you don't have to follow up in a tournament🤷
@@TheKamiBunny Actually yes you do! Sweeping and throwing in Karate is only allowed if it’s followed up immediately with a strike to the fallen opponent.
@@TheKamiBunny Hooking type motion is typically used for sweeping from the outside in, in that it does pull the foot slightly forward. It is typically used with a simultaneous hand strike, Otherwise it requires an immediate strike upon completion as stated above.
do you know what the tecnique is called in karate? I'd love to see how they teach/perform this technique
Love seeing this. FYI as a southpaw be orthodox, you can use this with great effectiveness - your lead foot sweeps back/out, since your opponent will usually try to step outside. Leads to him falling on his hands, and you are in great position to counter as he rises.
cheers!!
I like how he’s being nice and not following up with a knee to the face.
I doubt jeff will ever see this but your video on footwork drills, your 8 basic combinations. Saved my life. In a real street fight. This turned me from nothing into a survable outcome. Many blessings thank you Jeff Chan
hey brother , I am so happy to hear that! keep up the good work!
I thought we already talked about this: hit them on the way down Jeff!
🤣
hahah trueeeee
I was just wondering how quick it would need to be to get that sweep leg as a knee to the face on the way down... Let's see that!
That’s the karate way!
My favorite among your techniques.
I focus on Judo and Boxing, and this ashi-waza boxing combo is perfection imo
agree I learned it from Judo and it works in striking especially ibecause t's not taught much and is unexpected
cheers :)
This front foot sweep is awesome… I still struggle when I try it during sparring sessions, but I hope one day do it… kkk
Really only works when someone is moving forward at you!
It’s a joy to watch you continue to evolve in your art and your production of these videos. You are exceptional sir
thanks for watching!
me: "you can't teach a detailed technique in under a minute"
Jeff: " hold my beer bro"
LOL
Love it Jeff. Who the pot head that say posting and sweeping doesn't work? Lol
Sweeps are very good against agressive oponents, how can someone say that sweeping doesn't work lol
@@gabrielavelino8419 right exactly 💯
several people commented on a short video I released a few weeks ago, said it was a lucky sweep or that it doesn't work , so I had to remake..
I video I posted early was called "my fav move to do on aggressive opponents" LOL
@@MMAShredded no wayyyyy 😍😍😍😍 you responded back!!!! Yes coach/brother in arm Jeff. Thank you for clearly that. I was like, I use the same move too. But then I guess, keyboard warriors right? Lol just saw your footwork workout and it look great.
Wow, this was the video I found the footwork guide in. Such a great follow along. I still use it to this day, just to keep moving on the daily.
You Tube wasn't really don't the shorts back then.
So weird.
Nice technique. I've never seen this ever not even in the UFC. Thank you.
This middle aged Russian Muay Thai dude at my gym used it all the time and it is extremely humiliating and annoying 😂
Zabit did this against Kattar.
yeah!!
I loved seeing this move the first time you showed it to us. Even better seeing you pull it off multiple times with different opponents. Really enjoy your vids
thank you brother!!!
Man your channel is gold for technique.
thank you!!
The young master, already have, showed these technics in a previous video. I took the liberty to take them to myself, because they are simple and effective. Thank you, for sharing your knowledge!
🥊✌🇧🇷🇺🇲
all your techniques always work, Jeff.
I used your techniques in sparring a lot.
Thanks Jeff
im glad to hear man :)
Thanks Jeff for the video, I landed this trick twice yesterday during sparring. Greetings from Budapest, Hungary
awesome!!
YESSSSS! I always used to pull this off during sparring. Glad to see it is being used in more advanced sparring 😊
:)
Will definitely have to add this to sparring tricks.
Awesome soundtrack added, makes the video that much more awesome.
:)
this is beautiful. Seemless. This is a real weapon. Two of those and your opponent will get emotional.
Awesome tecnique !!!! Congratulations!
thanks for watching!
Simple yet effective.
I definitely see street fight applications for this.
Not even to be the aggressor,, but for creating distance and getting out of trouble.
Hard for people to disagree when you give them proof like hours of sparring footage, but they'll still find a way. You make it look so clean as always. We appreciate all your hard work jeff
thank you brother!!!
My favorite combo was a lead inside leg kick to jab. The kick tripped the opponent into the punch and the punch helped me to get back to my preferred stance. Very similar mechanism to this technique.
The movement is so smooth, and effective....of course I'll start training This....
awesome :)
This is such an elegant move As a nine year old white belt I used to see the black belts at the JKA Of Trenton NJ use these sweeps over and over again. It's in a lot of old martial arts as well as modern sports. A truly universal technique that can make such a difference in various formats of martial art.
Thank you for sharing brother
I love this shorts technique highlight video, the hard sparring was also good, keep it up
Thats a good friggin technique my bro.Gets every amateur out there every time!!
cheers!
Very subtle use of a sweet technique. Nice 👍🏾
cheers!
Awesome! I bet having multiple efficient low energy techniques must be great.
I’m about to become a real menace on the mat in sparring doing this: thank you
Always been a trusted go to.
cheers!
So that's how an ashi-barai is supposed to be done.
I appreciate that you also posted the fails.
cheers!
It never gets tired to watch
:)
Omg senpai notice me!
Btw love your work
Thank you very much master for this wonderful technique 🙏🇱🇰
Love it coach. Your Content is truly the best.
thank you Bryan!!
Gros Merci pour ton cours gratuit , vraiment utile et efficace !!
thanks for watching!
Dope sweep! I used to use a similar one but would step in with a knee to the inside on their lead thigh. Caught a lot of dudes off guard with that. Love the channel my guy! Keep up the good work
thank you brother!!
Youre the man. Cant wait to see you in UFC
thanks for watching!
In karate I used the front foot sweep a lot to set up the reverse punch-but I’ve seen it done even better with the Muay Thai fighters-love how you add the head post to make it even more effective and show it successful several times in sparring-
Who says this technique doesn’t work?
Love the timing, I can learn so much from your channel, cheers mate, keep up the good work, much respect.
thanks for the support man!
This 100% works. one of my go to moves. Can also do offensively if they shell up on your jab.
awesome!!!
@@MMAShreddedwarrior collective has a good video on it. This is how I first learned. ua-cam.com/video/N0gGjHwXqjM/v-deo.html
This is very effective specially in a real fight or competition you can use the same leg movement to deliver a knee strike to the face instantly from the sweep, which will also give your punch more power since the bodyweight falls in the direction of the strike. Very well done 💪💪💪
cheers!!
This is sweet. I found something useful that is very similar, from southpaw position to sweep with your outside leg the inside of the opponents outside leg when they lifting their weight off of it.
awesome!!
A sweep, I wish I was younger, damn. I’ve been training in Muay Thai for 2 years in Thailand. I love it because it’s so difficult every lesson, so much technique, strength power, coordination, concentration, cardio. I am always learning and improving. I must be crazy but I’m 67 .
From my experience this technique works really well in certain situations - mainly against opponents who use punches to close distance, they have to land heavy on that front foot in order to advance and that’s when they’re most susceptible. Another situation this works well in is against opponents with bladed stance like taekwondo. I am sure you can employ this in a multitude of ways but the above mentioned is when it works best for me.
cheers!
Thanks for sharing your wisdom 🙏
Wow! This is really really nice Jeff. I’m 100% gonna give this a try next sparring session. 👌
I think MOST people neglect their hand-fighting/parrying/posting and positioning work. I think maybe there’s a fear that it will ALWAYS lead to a clinch battle. 🤷♂️
Really great, thanks brother 🙏
thanks for watching brother :)
@@MMAShredded thanks for the really great content Jeff. I love the amount of sparring vids that you post. Fantastic for proving your points too bro...especially since it’s obvious (to me anyway) that you’re showing it working on opponents of all experience and skill levels in this vid too. 💪👏
Much respect Jeff 🙏
I learn this in silat. You must know when opponent weight transfer. It better execute when weight on infront foot.
When:
1.Opponent step forward.
2. When punches.
3. When ever weight shifting to front( while or when)
4. when kicks. (Received kick and hook foundation kick/evade and sweep landing foot or front foot)
Key is timing, weight and fulcrum knowledge.
Power of strike on is on foundation. So, shake it.
cheers!
Your content is fantastic man
thanks man!!
The foot sweeps absolutely do work. Love using them on the very aggressive forward movers as well 😄
:):)
Brilliant man! Thanks
Catch them with the knee on the way down. Can't wait to try this one out in sparring thanks Jeff.
awesome :)
I have practiced and studied old school Chinese martial arts, in particular 8 Step mantis boxing (tanglang quan), and there are all kinds of sneaky little trips, head/frame manipulations, and foot reaping type techniques that can totally disrupt your opponents structure and balance out of nowhere. People who don't have an open mind to more unorthodox techniques are missing out. Sure these moves may not succeed with the same frequency as say a double leg takedown or the more 'bread and butter' techniques but they can create some interesting mixups in yoyr bag of tricks. I like to see this kinda stuff, good stuff!
I love that move. Also good in grappling range. Thanks for the great content Jeff! 👊🏿
thanks for watching!!
I'm a big fan of sweeps especially to set up strikes. They work real well someone is rushing and closing distance quickly while heavy on there foot
cheers!
Nice to see this technique getting some love, I use it in sparring a lot, extremely satisfying to pull it off
awesome!
I have been involved in the martial arts for over 60 years now, one thing I learned is that every time I doubted that a technique would work, but sure enough, I will see someone that will be able to make it work.
cheers!
I remember as a kid this sweep was used a lot in street fights 26yrs ago. It was basically over if you fell down you'd get stomped.
cheers!
timing, timing and timing. pure arts
cheers!
I was trying to show a former wrestler trips and foot sweeps a while back. Either you get it or you don't. Great clip.
thanks for watching!
Jeff you are a legend man ! I want to see more of your fights
thanks bro!
One of the best martial arts channels demonstrating the power of sparring as a learning tool. No bullshido here!
thank you!!!
if you hit it while the opponent is stepping in its deadly
the problem is avoiding the overhand that comes with the step
you jus got a new subscriber, keep up the good work bro!
thank you!!!
I get this often also, either time it on they jab before lead foot sets down or post on head downwards and opposite of the sweep
awesome!
amazing dude! keep up !
Some champion caliber stuff right there
cheers!
I do a similar in southpaw. Circling to my right, sweep foot, post witht right hand, then throw left or jab
nice man!
Good work man. That looks solid
thanks!!
When she says she just wants someone to sweep her off her feet
0:08 I would personally add a uppercut knee to the face instead of a punch! It’s a good technique overall, especially the “Pulling the head down” part I have never thought of that. But when I saw it, right away that knee to the face clicked in my head.
tks for sharing ! I got mine...I will practice
From Brazil - Brasilia
thanks for watching!
This sweep absolutely works. In my karate days I used it to a lot mainly to unbalance my opponent and throwing a cross to the head.
Who would say that doesn't work? That's classic Muay Thai!
internet trolls

Excellent technique!
thank you!
Hell yeah this karate guy used that on me in sparring all the time when I put on coward pressure -if your quick enough you can counter by stepping back on the lead foot quickly but still hard to do
awesome!
I love the ending footwork workout. That’s going to be more helpful than any bag or pad work you do
cheers!!
For some reason I haven’t got the videos is there something I have to do
@@MMAShredded ?
Properly executed technique ALWAYS works, except when it is countered by either a) superior technique, or more importantly, b) superior execution of that technique.
cheers!
People who don't know sweep is the most underrated method used in ancient/old days martial arts.
It works if you know leverage
I'm not a fan of someone who says a technique "doesn't work". They clearly haven't applied the technique at the correct moment and then discounted it as ineffective.there is always a opportune moment to apply a technique effectively. Nice work Jeff. Keep proving people wrong.
thank you brother!!
Like it 👍 I was always taught especially when grappling, wherever the head goes the body goes, manipulate the back top half of your opponent’s head and the body will follow.
I could be wrong 🤷🏼♂️
cheers!
I don't practice MMA but I use to be an advanced member of my aikido dojo. Long story short we practice a technique called heaven and hell. One hand moves the weight up while the other moves hands down. The idea is to disperse the enemy movement. It's all a science, force comes in straight you break the force by deterring it. Anyone doubting this technique never trained in a martial art just my 2 cents.
cheers!!
I love that move! Fighters gotta use it more
cheers!
DAMN THIS WAS SICK TYVM Jeff
thanks bro!
That is really slick!
cheers!
Damn, well you well and truly shut those doubters up haha
:)
Definetly gonna try this
awesome!
@@MMAShredded I failed any tips?
Damn man. I'm sleeping on this sweeping move.
haha
Man this is my coach's favourite technique, he literally puts everyone on the ground with a perfect timed move. Very elegant move in my opinion.
haha sweet!
I love the compilation, As anyone who trains knows this is an amazing technique but not easy to pull off
👍
cheers!
Dude Jeff is such a badass!
