But we always made sure to put a couple of layers of clean trash bags in the can before putting the bread in, and we only put the bread in, then we would take the good triple bagged bread and sit it beside the dumpster outside. there was a man who came to pick it up for the homeless shelter every day. subway had refused his request to donate the day old bread, so we all found a way to work around it. the amount of food wasted by American businesses every day is absolutely staggering
Same thing with 7/11. If you’re ever awake after around 2:30 am you can go in and just ask if you can have anything they’re gonna throw out from the fresh items. This was like 7 years ago, but me and my friends would always walk up high as hell in high school and ask for donuts or even the random sandwiches they had (those probably last longer now due to all that dog shit in them) , but always worth a try if you’re at 7/11 in the middle of the night
Even if they gave homeless or people in need the left over donuts, what does it accomplish? Donuts have zero nutritional value. It wouldn’t be helping them at all. Everyone in Texas has known this for decades lol. I worked with a guy in Dallas who would come to work every morning with dozens of dumpster donuts he snatched from donut stores when they closed after breakfast.
My kids worked for Panera for a couple of years. They do get rid of all the leftover baked goods every evening. Bags and bags. But local charities and not for profits usually benefitted. Cops, schools, other places knew about it and knew when to be at the door for pickup. But some nights there was no one interested and my kids would bring them home. I’d drive all over town the next day giving donuts and pastries away.
The doughnuts would get stale and bad to eat so they have to throw it out, if not employees can get fired if they get capucha feeding it instead of throwing them out.
