  • Taken from the back window of the 17:50 2C51 Exeter to Penzance service on Saturday 30th August 2014 (Hauled by 57603 Tintagel Castle). The video starts shortly after passing Starcross and continues to just outside of Newton Abbot. It offers a good view of the repaired sea wall (following the storms in February 2014) at Dawlish and the 5 tunnels between Dawlish and Teignmouth.
This train uses the seating accommodation carriages of the First Great Western Night Riviera Sleeper Services and was introduced as a summer Saturday only service from Par to Exeter St Davids arriving early afternoon and returning early evening to Penzance.
I have some other shorter videos for other sections of the route such as the departure from Exeter St Davids and Dainton to Totnes (where I alighted) which I will also upload if I get enough requests

Better than a footplate ride. I did the same thing on the old Arlberg Express.

A really nice, enjoyable video. Nice steady camerawork. Others need to take note - no zooming and waving the camera around makes for better footage and viewing. Only amateurs do that! Thanks for uploading.

That's because the camera is fixed on a tripod!!

@@stuartbroome1258 No tripod was used in the making of this video, but the phone was rested against the rear window which helped to keep it steady

What was this filmed on? Sounds a bit like mk 3 stock

It was filmed on a Nokia Windows Mobile Phone. I cannot remember the model as unfortunately the screen cracked when it was in my pocket at which point it stopped working, so I no longer have this phone, but it was one of the lower spec models, I think the model number may have started with a 5. It was probably a 2013 or 2014 model.

Educate me !- What is the word for passing through a space before you can see it! - ie - like this vid and when rowing.
