  • Full Highlights of the League Cup Final 1971 between Tottenham Hotspur and Aston Villa. Also includes:
-Jimmy Hill interviews with Chico Hamilton (Aston Villa) and Martin Chivers (Spurs)
-Small interview with Bill Nicholson (Manager of Spurs)
I think this is the full Big Match show from that final.

The fact of the matter is that in terms of domestic honours, Aston Villa led the way until the early 1980s, when they were overtaken by Liverpool, and are still very much in the highest tier as far as domestic honours won is concerned, with 19. Their only Euro honour (if you discount the Super Cup and InterToto) is the European Cup, true - but in those days only CHAMPIONS could take part, it was sudden death and if Spurs had a victory in that competition on their list, they would take it.

Went to this gsme as a 12yo with my friend Mark and his brother and dad. In those days you collected your tickets from a wooden hut in the grounds. They only.found two. His dad and me were unable to gain entry. As he asked someone in the hut to look again, the WembleyOffice Manager, walking past, overheard and said MR GRAHAM, YES YOU RANG WEDNESDAY COME WITH ME. He escorted us into the ground but amazingly put us in the Villa end. Villa outplayed us and in the end after Chivers' goals I covered my scarf up as an 18 yo skinhead screamed WE HATE SPURS AND LOOKED Evil !!! ! I swear to this day I'd have been lynched wearing a Spurs scarf !!!!

I’m not sure I can explain it either, but I feel the exact same way about the Old Wembley, it was something Magic about 2 teams playing for the FA Cup/League Cup in this ground before the renovations. I truly feel that the love for the FA cup started slowly dying when they changed the stadium… it was football heritage, and hell I liked the cup finals at Cardiff over the new Wembley. I know it’s the same area same stadium but there’s nothing special about it. I wish there had been a way to improve the interior of the stadium without making it look like something completely different when it comes to where the seats were and the pitch.

@@richardloring7545 Truly all the old temples of their sports. Especially Twickenham I loved how it looked before, honestly I’m just a big fan of the old stadium designs. Felt like most had something unique and special about them, nowadays a lot of the renovated grounds or newly built ones feel nearly identical in terms of design. Maybe I’m wrong but that’s the feeling I’ve always had about the old vs new when it comes to sports grounds especially in England.
