Great idea! Well executed experiment with interesting results. I am also surprised the "free and clear" did so well. I always assumed those formulas were less effective. I'll be sharing this one with my local run club!
Wet clothes in a bag for over a week?!?! That smell must've hit like a train. Great tests and review! The sock test was crazy to see how much dirt was left behind.
Haha yeah I know, I'm gross. Honestly I left them in the bag intentionally so that I could really test the product. But yes it smelled horrible! Thanks man!
You are the 🐐 for this. I was looking for a detergent to get the sweat smell out of a few of my clothes and found this video. Going to purchase 1 of these and let you know how it goes! Thanks man!
@@UltraTrailSteven Came back to update you. thank you thank you thank you!!! I don’t run NEARLY as much as you lol. I average 40-50 miles a month lol…but after my runs & weight training, I would forget that I have wet clothes in my laundry bag and after a few days and as you can imagine, it stinks lol. And there’s a few shirts that no matter what I tried I could never get this distinct sweaty gym smell out of it. So after my first wash I went for a 3 mile run and couldn’t smell a thing on my clothes!!! So needless to say this worked like a charm!!!! I’m positive that the rest of the washes will be just as amazing and further clean any clothes I have. I used the regular sweat x activewear (not the max or free and clear). You are a lifesaver!!!!
Did you consider testing Atsko Sport Wash? Trying to figure out how that stacks up to some of these other options...which manufacturer bowed out of the test?
@UltraTrailSteven Atsko has a great marketing story around the benefits of residue free detergent on their page-- The Great Detergent Conspiracy. They promote Sport Wash as being good for down and i notice that most of the other sport wash brands don't, so im trying to figure out if I should try Win or another alternative for down quilts and jackets too, or stick with Sport Wash. It has always worked well for me for down and supposedly the residue left by other detergents impacts the feathers' ability to loft and insulate well.
Who knew there was so much to detergent. Brave topic to cover but you did a great job Steven! Does the temp of the water make a difference? Which one are you going to move forward with?
Question: I wonder how the clothes smell after sitting on a clothes hanger for 3-4 weeks, after they are washed and dried? Mine smell clean after a wash using regular detergent and during excercise. If I do not use a shirt until 4 weeks after it is washed and pull it out of the closet it has a funk smell and can't be worn. Thus, the reason for investigating activewear detergents. These are cheap Russel Athletics shirts from Walmart.
@@UltraTrailSteven Yeah, I'm learning that there are good antimicribial treatments and not so so good. I could have spent my money a little more wisely and ended up with less but better clothing. Always a learning process. I will still do my own little test with long term closet storage after using one of the products you tested. Thx again

Thanks, Dan! I tried to keep it as controlled and sciency lol as possible. Thanks for the share man!
I've used free and clear for years, good stuff!
We must be in adulthood, because this was interesting.
HA totally! We are grownups now I guess
🤣 😂
Putting in the sweat so we don’t have to. Nice job, I need to consider one of these to give a try.
Yeah these all work really well!
Great video!! Really helpful to see what these products can do.
Thanks for watching!

Glad I could help! Definitely let me know what you think after a couple of washes.

No I actually haven’t heard of Atsko Sport Wash. it was a big name in the sport detergent game 😆

I have always read and heard that cold water is best. That’s why I use tap cold. Not certain, but likely one of the Sweat- X sport products
Thanks for watching!
Are any of the scents over powering or would any of them attract bees/etc while on the trail?
No they are all very mild, and the free and clear have no scent. All are nice!

Hmm idk. My running clothes don’t sit that long.
