    I use brush nibs for everything. Btw, copics do best when you have most of the colors, but then again I use a lot of color to build depth. As for these markers, I like the halves that have the same amount of ink as a copic pen and that you can pick the nibs. I don’t care for chisel nibs. A giveaway would be cool.

    I gave in back in february and bough the whole set... I don't regret it a single bit! I really love these Markers and hope they will make more colors and maybe a fine tip in the future!
    Also thank you for sacrificing your Markers for us! Really interesting to see what's actually in a Copic and no wonder my feel so dry now after all these years and won't refill properly anymore :/ (one reason why I wanted the Olos...)

    I ordered a Olo set of skin tones. Each of the ends are a different marker color with brush nibs. 4 markers = 8 colors. I love them but it is easy to overstate while coloring depending on the paper. I am pretty sure I want to keep with these over Copic. While I love Copic I have purchased several that went empty almost immediately and cost so much more! Thanks for the comparisons!

    the cartridge system reminds me of fountain pens. It'd be really cool if they set up a recycling program for used cartridges; like when you receive refill cartridges, they give you an envelope or something to send the empty ones back and they either refill and reuse the used cartridge at a discount or recycle them for you

    These look amazing. I am tempted by getting 64 colours in 32 pens but haven’t looked into the cost or delivery to the UK. They really seem to have thought about the end user when making these. Whilst I would love a giveaway I think you should keep them to do ‘further testing!’

    Essentially, what you demoed for us here (thank you!) was two markers of the same color with the same tip.
    It would be more economical and offer more variety buying colors alone. If you purchase "sets" you get a double-end marker of the same color but *half* of that is supposed to equal a regular sized Copic (or other brand) marker.
    I've looked thoroughly at the individual marker selection on their current site. It's definitely more economical to buy the individual brush (or chisel marker half, whichever you prefer). The connector rings are included as a courtesy. So you will end up with "one" marker end of one color, and can connect it to a different color. You get more for your money. Then, when it's time to replace a color you get it at half price with no need to buy another connector. Hope this makes sense. ;-)

    Some pros & cons of Olo, including ink % & $ factors, based on your video (which I loved)...
    *PROS. 1) store any direction: better use of space; maybe less space & less containers needed.
    2) 2 colors on same marker: need less working space; travel lighter with 50% less marker tubes needed; save $$ buying less travel containers.
    3) refilling: easier & less mess & less tools.
    4) ink usage (included 70% & 65% ink for non-Olo markers): 70% of 2ml non-Olo ink = 1.4ml usable ink; 90% of Olo 4ml ink (2ml & 2ml in 1 marker) = 3.6ml usable link. That's 61% MORE in Olo.
    If use 65% non-Olo number (versus 90% Olo) then you get 64% MORE Olo ink.
    So... don't compare $ of 1 Olo set versus 1 non-Olo set because MORE THAN 2 sets of non-Olo equals 1 set of Olo.
    If strictly using $ and not including pros to help decide, compare $/ml USABLE ink instead.
    (Note: Olo says better than 92% usable ink, not 90% - based on watching a zoom video of theirs.)
    *CONS. Only con seems landfill / environmental and I'm unsure ultimately how it'd compare gram for gram. Yes, Olo refill cartridges go into landfill, but so do the much larger ink refill containers of non-Olos. And 1 dead non-Olo takes up twice the landfill space of 1 dead Olo, and a non-Olo also has that large inner fiber tube. I personally would consider this one a tie rather than a Con for Olo.
    All in all, I'll eventually try Olo markers.
    Jennifer (and Steve), I'm thrilled you did this video. You're both so wonderful.

    What a missed opportunity that they didn't offer double ended blending dogs. Like a light and mud tone if each color. Who needs 2 of the same color in the same tip? It feels like lazy marketing to me. These seem like they are being different, not because it's better (like ink cartridge instead of a bottle) but to be unique and proprietary. Maybe so it could get a patent. It seems like more waste to me and more expensive per ml vs a bottle if ink. I'm not sold but you did a great review!

    • @olomarker
      @olomarker 2 роки тому

      For our presale offering at a very large discount we only offered a small number of configurations. We just couldn't do anything more. However, now, on our website, you can order and customize your marker however you like. Different colors and different nibs or the same nibs and same colors. It's totally up to you. I've been in the marker business for nearly 25 years and some of the biggest complaints we got were that users were forced to have certain nibs on each end when they bought markers. That's why we decided to create this system that allowed you the freedom to decide for yourself.

    These look great! I used to do a lot of alcohol art in coloring and some of my own designs. Now I’m focused on producing more fine art with primarily watercolor…a world unto itself (but still love doing “some” crafting & coloring.) I wish alcohol inks could be lightfast, but their chemistry makes that impossible, I guess. Alcohol ink gives the most soft and beautiful blending that I don’t think you can get with any other color medium. Thanks Jennifer!

    I like the idea that I can order just one end and one color and use the paintbrush ends! Also, when traveling we can put a different color on each end. I bought a set of 32 on the pre-order; I like the markers because I have all the Copics but lately many of the Copic markers have had caps that were defective and became dry. You can't get in touch with Copic in Japan and how do you prove where you purchased one of your Copics? I have Copics that were purchased in Japan, and many from different retailers in the USA. That is very frustrating. You can reach OLO. So, I don't know. I have just really started getting used to the Copic coloring/labeling system and maybe don't want to learn another. I have had problems with the OLOs when I am capping or un-capping them and the middle of the marker becomes loose. Maybe I haven't put them together properly. Thank you so much for your input on these markers

    Cool, finally something other than a white label same old, same old. They're close in price to other scary expensive sets of markers, but at least you're getting good Japanese nibs. They're not cheap ones that will fray. I wish they could be refilled, but the liquid system probably requires a baffle or bladder system that can't leak. At least they're unique.

    That chisel tip shape looks a lot like the Prismacolor chisel to me. I like that you can potentially use more of the ink and that they offer half markers for sale, but I really dislike that you’re basically tossing the half marker body each time you get a refill! For me, the entire point of refilling a marker is to reuse the plastic marker body.

      My distribution company Global Creative actually handles the Karin brand for North America. It is a really amazing product that does use a free ink system. However it is water based. That is why the ink flow on the Karin marker is so amazing. Using a free ink flow system for a product that is water based is fairly easy to produce. For alcohol based products it is very, very difficult. The technology in our marker is different than the water based markers and pens, but you are right that the concept is similar.

      I think Ohuhu are a great place to start with markers - they’re inexpensive enough that you can get a feel for the markers and get a bunch of colors without totally breaking the bank. (About $100-125 USD for the set of 168, the 48-packs are about $25) For me, the brush tip on them is a little softer than I like - specifically for calligraphy/hand lettering, compared to the Faber Castell Pitt series - but they’re not so much meant for that, I think. I like using them, and feel good about the purchase, having never worked with alcohol markers before I bought them. They’re nice for hobby-level stuff at least - I haven’t been able to justify the cost of copics because I’m just not that serious with markers.

I'm not buying many markers now, but when I consider it investing in a new set, I'm looking to buy markers that can be refilled if at all possible rather than to pitch the entire marker when dry or having to purchase another plastic cartridge may not be economically the best and/or will mean more plastic waste (that we are literally drowning in.) I think, for now, Copic may still be the leader in alcohol markers, but the "double ink" supply in the Olo, if it really works out to be that, may one day give them a bit of an edge. It also depends on what people think of the ink colors themselves. I have some Copics, but Prismacolors are really my favorites...I think their ink formula is exquisite and tops even the mighty Copic. but no refills and I don't think they're ever gonna go that route. 😞

      We hear you on the cartridge for sure. With our current technology it just isn't possible, but we will continue to push ourselves. There is some interesting stats on how many people actually refill their markers versus just throwing them away and purchasing new ones. It is a very, very low percentage of people that buy refills. Actually more people buy refill ink to use as an independent art supply than to refill their markers. So simply having more useable ink really makes a difference. We had to make OLO with a replaceable cartridge system because of the technology, but other reasons that we like this system is that it does solve many problems that we heard users complaining about. Issues such as it being messy, overfilling, spilling ink and blobbing as well as time consumption. However, we agree with you on limiting anything plastic from being thrown away and we will do our best to keep improving.

    If you run out of ink on your brush nib can you change that to the Chisel nib end?

    • @olomarker
      @olomarker 2 роки тому

      You can for sure, however, you will then lose the advantage of knowing which nib is on which end of the marker based on the marker body color. If that is ok with you, then it is also a cool way to customize your markers even further.

    It's a really interesting marker system. However I think it's not as new. I think Molotow released their similar Sketcher Line at the beginning of this year. However I can be wrong.

    • @olomarker
      @olomarker 2 роки тому +1

      You are right, Sketcher was released a while ago in Germany and it is a really cool marker. I know those guys and it is a great product. However, it is quite different than OLO. OLO is a true alcohol based marker that uses a free ink flow system. Markers have been made internally the same for over 40 years and we finally had a break through to solve many issues that we have heard marker users complain about for decades such as inconsistent ink flow. Sketcher is water based but they do have a really nice ink. It does act differently than a true alcohol ink, but again, it's a really cool product.

      @@olomarker Interesting to know. Now I think I have to try them both, as the Sketcher were already on my To-Try-Out list.

    should the marker pens be laying down or sitting up. Because everybody keeps telling me they need to either lay down or sit up so what is your best opinion about that.

      Horizontal (laying flat) for one-sided, vertical (upright) for dual-tip. But Jennifer mentioned in the video that the Olo markers can be stored either way.

    • @ColoringBliss
      @ColoringBliss  2 роки тому +1

      Good rule of thumb…if the tool is double ended, store it horizontally. For the new OLO markers, the manufacturer says you can store them either horizontally or vertically.

    • @olomarker
      @olomarker 2 роки тому +1

      With OLO, because of our technology, it is ok to store them in any orientation.

    $1,000 for the full set of brush/brush markers? I'll stick to budget markers...

    I personally would not buy their refill cartridges. I’d just take out the nibs and refill them with Copic ink ( or similar ) in the closest color.

    • @olomarker
      @olomarker 2 роки тому

      This is a great idea...but it won't work very well. Because we have somewhat of a closed system technology for OLO, the ink won't soak back into the cartridge very well. It would mostly just saturate the nib and some of the stem that goes into the cartridge. In order to accomplish our goal of a free ink system and consistent ink flow as well as really high ink consumption, we had to make the marker this way. We will always be trying to improve the technology and maybe someday we can make our cartridge refillable, but right now the tech just doesn't exist.

      They are a lot of money for sure. OLO is a very expensive marker to make because of the technology we have implemented. The great thing is that for the price you pay, you are actually getting double the amount of usable ink as other comparable markers. We really tried to make the replacement cartridges as inexpensive as possible at $2.69 and they do provide as much usable ink as an entire full marker of other brands.

    You do realize there are millions of free printable color sheets on the net right? Why would anyone pay you 5usd for what they can get for free?
    What makes your color sheets worthy? Why should I buy yours instead of printing them for free?
    Also, I only watch videos of products purchased by the UA-camr. After all, if the UA-camr won't pay fir it why should anyone else.

    I wish these companies would keep their stickers, candies and ridiculous packaging then pass on the savings to the customer. I don't draw with packaging. Stickers are for toddlers and I can buy my own candy.
