- Mercedes Fastest While Big Teams Struggle With Understeer
The 2024 Spanish Grand Prix weekend has already started with a bang, with the top four teams being super competitive. Red Bull has brought big upgrades, and Ferrari looks to be in a great window again. Lewis Hamilton was fastest in FP2 and looks poised to challenge for a win in this GP. Have the Red Bull upgrades done enough, and can McLaren capitalize on their strong car?

James and his minions snorting lines back at brackley 😂💀
LOLLLL
Only way to get through the pain😭🙏
Why
😂😂😂
Time for Toto to come with the Blankets during Quali Sessions 😂
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤔🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤔🤣🤣🤣🤔 nice one
Everyone so easily forgot that James Allison is a genius.
They were so eager to make fun of him earlier this year because of how much they hate Mercedes forgetting this is his first ground effect car
True
And its taken him 6 months. Newey is great but Allison was up there with him until he himself departed in 2022 and Newey has had a free run for 3 years
@supaahflyy Are you serious? Didn't you see "The adjustable A-Arm attachment points at the beginning of the season? They tried the alternate attachment point how many times before that approach was never to be seen again....... On an Aero-Downforce car no less.....

😁❤️❤️
He’s the best. As a new F1 fan it’s making me feel way more educated than I have any right to be 😂
As an F1 race fan for the last 50 years, @F1Unchained has added a new dimension to my race weekends, with great factual, technical and non-sensationalistic commentary and excellent analysis packed in these videos. There’s no BS - just good, plain evidenced objective analysis.

That front wing is a game changer 🙌
Yep 👍
this is what merc does, shows out on Friday just to get shown up on Saturday and Sunday. I'll believe our pace when were back on the top step
I hope they dosent happen with all the optimism around the team
@@F1Unchained me too, I feel like Marc has always been good at Spain so hopefully this is our opportunity
@@coopersieb1391Is Marc the new Mercedes driver lol
Naw. God spoke. Mercedes is literally the best car thus weekend . They will start one Two. George will crash into on the last lap to prevent him from winning.
Weve already forgotten who was on pole in canada? Wow…
dude being a charles fan is just a roller coaster of emotions.
i dont even know if charles is going to have a good qualifying and race for this grand prix
he’ll be fine but sainz might beat him this time
As a charles and Ferrari fan myself I feel the pain! I have PTSD from Canada
im pretty sure only carlos had the new floor today so that might play a factor
@@jrjhn3895 will Charles get the new floor tomorrow?
@@erics489they probably were making head to head comparisons, so yeah
Based on the data from FP1 and FP2, Sam Collins, the F1 technical analyst on F1 TV Pro, Max Verstappen, and Lando Norris are neck-and-neck. Followed by the Ferrari drivers of Carlos Sainz and Charles LeClerc.
Then, it's the Mercedes drivers of Lewis hamilton and George Russell.
You're right.
We don't know what fuel levels and power modes each team is running, but his analysis is usually spot on.
Did he say anything about Piastri or Perez?
Will have to see because it’s hard to tell you never really know
@@bigjamal5229this track is a tyre killer, so Oscar will probably not do very well. And Checo... maybe a top 10 but a top 5 seems quite unlikely

Be funny if Merc is just fastest now and is just dominant.
I don’t want that- that would suck- but that would be hilarious
Don't worry, the Merc sabotage squad is on the ball, wait for quali tomorrow. 🤣
@@CashBacks-rz3bc Sh-shut up! 😭
the Mercedes seems so smooth with the drivers barely fighting the car especially compared to the redbull
This channel is genuinely amazing. You always make high quality content extremely quickly, no clickbait, extremely knowledgeable content, and just great! Thank you for what you do. Can’t wait to see you hit 50k! Only 800 subscribers, it’s gonna happen soon!
HAM is faster because he is faster in the corners that the car is in the longest. 3-4 and 12-14 take up much of the lap time. Fast there and you have a fast lap. MB does look fast, they have improved a ton in the last few races. This is the most concise and accurate F1 analysis channel on UA-cam. I am glad I found it.
The best F1 channel on UA-cam by a country mile
its just not accurate at all
Good commentary here. Very astute.

A long awaited title 🎉

It's FP
As much as I wish that was the case let’s not get too ahead of ourselves maybe next year at Ferrari for lewis
@@mikevandervegtFP vad for brits? What does it mean? French poverty
The title is total bullshit clickbait... It is FP2 dude. But i guess you Merc fan live of those now
Honestly this season has made such a huge 180 turn around from a snoozefest to im watching every goddamn free practice qualifying sprints and races. This is the most exciting f1 season since fucking 2021. It is about goddamn time shit started to heat up and get some what interesting. Im a mercedes fan and im finding myself cheering McLaren in miami then ferrari and charles in monaco. Midfield is also showing some exciting racing. That overtake albon did in canada threading the needle was absolutely insane unfortunately he didnt get to finish his race which is sad because i really wanted to see him finish with some points hes a very talented driver. Shit im even impressed with yuki he seems to have matured alot since last season none of that yelling and curseing like a small child dude has finally collected himself and realized hes made it to the top tier of motorsport and theres no place for childish antics. Head down and focus. Cant wait to see what 2025 is gonna look like and beyond
That front-wing was all they need, their powerunit is really strong as we can see with them and McLaren
The front wing doing magic
Yep I'm sure all their performance has just come from the front wing 🤦
@@Luke-en2tkofc not but the front wing might of helped other parts add performance trough better airflow
@@blackness. they have changed lots the biggest change seems to be behind the scenes in that their data is finally correlating to what happens on track
They both have the PU ?
For some reason, Lando’s long run data in that chart only showed his runs on soft. He threw Mediums on and put 5-6 laps to end the session and had the fastest long run pace of any car…that was on mediums.
Found this channel yesterday ! I am like where has this been all my life! absolutely love this, please keep it up because I love the cold hard facts and deep dive into the teams and their cars! 🔥💯
Glad you enjoy it! my friend :)
Wow! Norris's candlestick graph is WILD. That's insane consistency
This star is a rising !! Another banger of a review. Best one out there. THanks for sharing.
😁❤️ you’re the best my friend
That Red Bull like I said understeers quite a bit. I think it’s due to them creating too much downforce with those side pods and they want a strong rear end due to possible porpoising.
Honestly very good analysis and quite possible
If this is true then why can't Perez drive the car
@Luke-en2tk Good question, because he prefers understeer right ?
@@Luke-en2tk I think because it's understeering on corner exit, rather than entry. Perez likes a high minimum corner speed, but when it understeers on exit he isn't getting enough grip to get the throttle input out of the corner.
@@cg_2k72 that makes sense
I'm so loved RedBull in trouble ❤❤❤
James Allison is cooking 🔥
Will be interesting to see where Mercedes stack up in qualifying and the race
dude this is really good content and personally I really appreciate you pulling up all these analytics.
"George Russell domination could bore fans".
5:06 #alpine dying.
was looking forward to your take on these sessions since this morning. I think we were all surprised that Max was never P1 in any session...
Yeah Red Bull is shocking my friend
Nice video as always ! Laurent Mekies the director of RB said on French TV that they can’t go flat out in turn 9 and 14 (I think?), so yeah they can still make progress I hope 🤞
The Rb20 at the upper lip of the side pod change a lot to help with the undercut effect, the outside part is bigger to help keep the clean air under
❤ wow !!! Can’t wait for the race this weekend 😮
Did merc forget about the costcap ? they've been throwing upgrades like it's nothing
They don't care, sacrifices must be.
It’s not big upgrades they have been doing a lot of small upgrades like McLaren
They can just file the expenses under catering
@@bruhhhhmoment4848 But they are more effective.
@@benhaylock7097 write it off on their taxes
Damn you quick with this one
Lord I hope Hamilton does well in quali
When Mercedes brought out the zero pods all the major teams from red bull to alpine realized that vertical side pod slots can provide sufficient cooling that's why red bull ferrari alpine all have them
I am happy that its close but i just have a feeling RedBull will increase engine mode bigtime as usual on qually and win by 0.200. Its like they're always 1 engine mode down from the rest on practice.
Must have plugged in the tyre warmers today 😬
The mercs looked punchy, could this be their race or are they gonna fall away? Time will tell
I feel like merc are always fast in fp1 !
Uncertainty is beautiful. Gimme mixed setups, strategies, and drivers being the difference
I feel like the Barcelona upgrades are suiting Sainz driving style more than Leclerc as he seems to be struggling in Fp2 but thankfully setup changes were made and he did long runs but I am worried about his qualifying run
I think leclerc always takes a little time to adapt
I can’t believe how quickly this season has turned around every thought it was gonna be another snooze fest but now not even half way into the season we have 4 teams fighting in the championship now
We need that lh victory, or gr I don’t mind
Might happen
Merc are nowhere near to RB or MCl in longruns coz they are in-comparison too focused on single lap pace.. they added more downforce unlike all the other teams which would give them extra grip through corners but will backfire in the race by eating the tires once they try to attack someone.. who knows? they said Sunday would be a bit cooler🙂
When Lewis is on it there aren't many that can keep up with him
i hope merc wins or just gets close to win in that first triple header! ☺
I love the vids bro❤
😁❤️❤️
You're GOOD, son, Keep it UP!!
Always ❤️😁
Another great video, Go Merc.!😊
Super fast on these videos😂 damn dude
😁❤️
Aston Martin doing great with the Downgrades 👍
If Lewis keeps this pace into Quali he can definitely get a top 3 (he’s been pretty shit in quali tho) and also in the race he can definitely get a podium which would be nice to see
As a Ricciardo simp (fan) , I was really hoping to see better from the teams (rb1 &2) . I applaud merc if that pace is genuine , that's an impressive improvement! . Qualifying is going to be intriguing!
1-lap pace vs race pace my friend. Both Mercedes didn’t show as strongly in long run pace from the first two sessions. McLaren seems to be strongest with Ferrari and RB close second and third
I think there is a bit of over analysis of free practice at the moment. The track was very green after rain early in the weekend so I think the cars will change and gain more traction as the track rubbers in for qualifying. Merc are going well but setting up the car for today might bite tomorrow. Buts here's to a 4 team battle.
If Mercedes is fast on the saturday quali & the sunday race it will be good
Max turns up engine at qualy and chatters all! Max happy after FP2, so bad news for all the others.
We all try and tried to analyze these practice…. These are set up moments but race day comes and redbull comes away with it. It’s about the driver. Weather, set up tv… it’s any given Sunday on F1. Loving it
And we are waiting to get the Red Bull up but the Dutch are playing now we see tomorrow
It all comes down to that long run pace consistency. I think Mercedes will do well in quali and for the first 3rd of the race, but I could see them dropping off due to their setup and the amount of downforce they seem to be running. They'll end up eating through the tires vs. other teams who seem to be taking a slightly more conservative approach to downforce levels.
Not a lewis fan but i hope he wins. Silverstone might actually sell tickets lmao
teams need to declare only those upgrades that are visible, so anything inside or under has a free pass.
Lewis and Schumacher
Both have won it 6 times.
The biggest factor is Max factor
100% the best driver
Redbull needs to start pulling their weight.
@@F1Unchained when white boy max wins in the best car it's because he is the best according to the racists. When lewis wins in the bast car it's because of the car according to the racists.

James finally decided to be useful for once lol.
When are we going to give Komatsu the credit he deserves? Last year he was mocked even blamed for pushing fan favourite Funny man Gunter out. All the experts said that it made no sense because at was all about Haas not investing but clearly Komatsu is able to run the team much, much more efficient. At the same time Vowles is still seen as the savior of Williams while that team clearly is running it down hard this year. Feels like a lot of bias in the paddock and press with the who knows who talking eachother up.
Wake up babe, F1 Jesus just posted!
😁❤️
F1 John Wick, dude!
I wish Carlos could get a podium here, preferably a win of course
Another God video 🙌
😁💚💚
Well if all the teams are understeering there is a fairly simple solution but some drivers may not be able to handle it
Leclercs FP1 struggles were with the non updated car.. In FP2 with the updates, he was much happier/faster
Having done about a million laps on different F1 sims on this track... turn 3 is an absolute LF tire killer and can be the key to race pace
Happens every weekend with Lewis, he dominates the practice sessions but the proceeds to get dumpstered in quali and the race stints. Love him tho!!!❤
I'm very happy to see Mercedes back into competition, but they will probably fall back next race tho
Will have to see
It's carzy that RB is lost on sector 2-3 from haas xD
So all they needed to boost the. Was a front wing 😮
As usual when qualify happens all of a sudden Max will race up to the front from his poor p2 and p2 placing like magic
Nah its just the friday championship
I saw it, they just did what they always do in fps since the beginning of the season aka not turning the engine down, they did 320kph at speed trap whilst mclaren did 301 ferrari 298, on qualifs when other will turn up the engines it will go Back to what they been doing all season
With all respect to Alpine but if one of them is at p4 then you know that the topteams around it were on high fuel.
come on Merc., 1 and 2 tomorrow, thanks.
Quite Quick Out of the box it's always Been that Hamilton guy
How can Williams go from the fastest straight line spoed a year ago to the slowest? If you're a Williams fan; hope for rain.
0.3 back to Lando duh
Lol this aged well 😂😂😂
Did you miss the part where it's only p2🤔🤣🤔
Welcome home, Flavio Briatore! 😁
"whilst" red bull fastest in race pace, then mclaaren and ferrari, merc closein q pace but hafl a second off race pace.. merc n ferrari prob most tyre wear tho
Because practice always tells us what we need to know.
Practice never lies, does it ?
Merc usually runs higher power modes than everyone else
They didn't
Being a Williams fan is constant pain
With all the front runners being so closely matched, it's almost impossible to see who is sand bagging. Ha-ha. What ws the problem with Checo's car in FP2?
Nothing he is just slow but he is suffering from mid corner understeer and traction which is what max is also struggling with except he is driving around it

They have Lewis on glory runs to calm the people upset about the sabotage
So if they are so fast, how did they only finish 3rd & 4th. George led from the start, but his defensive blocking was pathetic. Max won, Lando 2nd then Hamilton.
Is Perez really that much worse than Verstappen or does he have a different car setup?'
