@@davidm5415Definitely album of the year so far in metalcore. Polaris has the only album that has come close and Silent Planet is the only band that has a chance to top it.

I watched their Q&A livestream and they basically said they don’t like going back to B-sides at all. Keaton said something like “songs that didn’t end up on the album aren’t ones we’ll ever go back to”. So if they end up doing a deluxe because the record company wants them to, I guess they’ll end up writing a few new songs 🤷♂️
Don't think so Keaton posted the Riff on Insta a while ago with comment "don't know why this Riff didn't make the Album", I don't think they will realease a Deluxe Cuz apparently they are quite picky what goes on the Album given this Out of this world Riff. I think they released the Song cuz IT was the title track that didn't fit the mood of the Overall Album so they Made IT a single

Love this track since it "closes" the Heavener era and I actually like how it came out a bit later especially if they weren't feeling how to write it until now. Fantastic track
The reason this track wasn't on the album was because they wanted to make a title track but they weren't getting it the way they wanted it to sound so they released the album first, then after release they wrote this song

This was such a nice little treat when I opened Spotify yesterday. I thought Heavener was a perfect album personally, but this song somehow went above that and blew me away.
It's a shame I only started listening to them after seeing them with Currents in Toronto this past May, but man did they deliver and got me absolutely hooked on their music.
Wasn’t too big on this band prior to this year but this song has been on repeat all day and they still have my AOTY

This is what Heavener was missing. “As If It Never Was” is still my favorite IA song and I was bummed that nothing else on Heavener captured that same feel

Heavener is AOTY in metalcore so far, not one album has come even close except maybe Polaris. Silent Planet is the only band that could possibly top it. This song is amazing, new favorite song of the year.
They got 2023 no other way, their album and this single are so high high quality and emotional and unbelievable

Same here. I don't think anything could top the Heavener album. Tho I'm hoping for a strong Imminence album too. The singles were absolutely incredible so far!
I think Silent Planet is the only band that can possibly top Heavener but so far Heavener reigns AOTY.
Honestly Earthside has a fair chance of topping Invent Animate, the new stuff sounds near perfect. Heavener will still probably remain my AOTY though.

This is album of the year by miles. I haven't heard anything as good or listened to any album as much. Oh, and I don't really like their old albums. I can't explain how good this album is.

Honestly confused why this wasn't on the album. My one minor disappointment of the album was that it ended on a single that had been out for a while before it released. This would've been the perfect way to end it

Can someone explain to me why Heavener is considered such a strong AOTY contender?
My favorite band is Currents and IA hasn't blown me away. I just think it's "pretty good". Feels like something similar to Currents with less heavyness and more of a calm ambience vibe.
To me unsurprisingly The Death We Seek is my personal AOTY with its main problem being that its not quite The Way It Ends.
I guess what I am getting at os that I dont understand why out of all releases Heavener is the one with the overwhelming mass of praise and calls for AOTY. Only album with similar praise was Sleep Token and while I disagree even more there I at least understand why that album specifically. Not looking for an argument, just genuinely want someone to explain it to me maybe itll make me see what everyone else sees.
Invent animate is kind of a band that has to click with you and they will become your favorite band, that happened with me too. They evoke so much emotions and one of the biggest reasons is simply Marcus Vik! He is the best vocalist in the game right now
Theyre a band that has to reach that “click” point like Loathe. Their music is not exactly super unique most of the time but they have this atmosphere that really only clicks in IA songs. The ‘ambience’ is the bonus that elevates IA songs above competitors. I don’t know how much more to explain. I also love the breathiness in the cleans.
Funnily enough I’m exact opposite to you, I really didn’t like the new Currents album (but did like their previous), felt too generic and safe imo going off their previous work. Did not click with me at all
@@SeelsOfElation Thanks for the responses. It helps me understand it more, because I just always got the impression there was some musical brilliance that just passed me by because I have no idea of instruments or composition.
I guess I'm giving Heavener another go with the mindset of trying to take in the atmosphere and emotion. On my previous listens I just expected some grand, innovative, boundary pushing songs because when I hear "AOTY" I expect something like that (Not saying TDWS is that, I just like it the most this year).
To me the problem with The Death We Seek is that it lacks exactly the atmosphere and emotion. I like almost every song individually (Sorry, Beyond This Road) but Remember Me is the only song that is more to me than just a headbanger track, while The Way It Ends was full of those big goosebump moments (Monsters chorus, All of Let Me Leave, Second Verse of Origin, Second Half of Second Skin, The last two entire tracks). Soundwise its just refined Currents and I love it for that.
If you asked my opinion on Invent Animate before they dropped The Sun Sleeps, I would've said that they're a pretty good but rather hit-or-miss band. They have their own niche sound, and even though I've heard bands with more unique sounds, no one does the IA sound like they do it and I think that sets them apart. They just have a way with their clever melodies and distinctive melancholy ambience woven in seamlessly with heavier riffs and breakdowns, which makes them resonate emotionally with me very much. They aren't really for everyone, but if you click with their sound it's extremely pleasing to listen to.
I honestly wasn't a big fan of TDWS apart from 3-4 tracks, just felt like constant heavy chugs with overly dramatic choruses in between. Just my opinion.

Even as someone who doesn't like it the same as others do, surely your love for music can at least give you some vision?

But to put it simply
It's because of its mix, it's sound design, it's rules and themes
It's a perfect mix of ambient, progressive, melancholic and relieving metal.
Heavy, sound wise, doesn't, and shouldn't make an album aoty worthy.
Heavener is still plenty heavy, honestly, probably heavier than TDWS, with themes and riffs, vocal pieces with emotion and weight.
This album is praised because of its uniqueness, how well crafted and mixed every aspect of the album is, how well it moves from piece to piece, in a way that some other bands just can't compete.
Vibes, mix, themes, and emotion, is what is making this album such a heavy hitter for all of us.
Heavener is just one of those albums that will be a staple when someone asks about the genre, up there with the Way It Ends, and The Dark Pool.
