  • This is the final video of a vertical smoker build. This smoker is more closely related to a Japanese Kamado cooker as it is insulated with thermal mass.
In this video I go over the completed cooker.

Beautiful design & build, makes me want to do one tomorrow. FYI, aside from needing an upper vent-out like the lower vent (to control temps), build yourself a matching bottom storage box/cart to raise it all up 18-24", so the grill & firebox can be easier to use. Nice job Andrew!!!

Way cool man! I have an old Vietnam-Era Army surplus Ice-box I'm getting ready to convert into something like this, so it was really cool to listen to some of your ideas, especially with the thermal mass concept. I'll send you a link whenever I finally get started!

Thanks. Totally amazed. I am interested in every aspect of this project: The type of welder you used, the type of cooker you made... I'm inspired.

Just found you video. I've been considering building my own cabinet smoker/cooker. I love what you've done. I've never welded, I know nothing but about steel accept that non-galvanized, 304, lead free stainless steel plates and expanded metal should be use.
I don't know where to purchase the materials.
    Why not fire brick?
What tools? It looks like you posted this video in 2016. Has there been any modifications?
Whatever you can share would be awesome. Great job.

Very well built! But, why it doesn't have airflow outtake control?

A year later, how has the insulation worked out? Would you do it again or something different?
