I feel worse for Peahat's LTTP runner. He was about 1 minute 20 seconds faster than Pro_TGMH's guy. And Sidewayz' was the best of the three, beating Pro_TGMH by over 1 minute 30
Team Peahat feeling the burden of an autosave lock. had he had just one more heart going in i think he would have been fine, but 3 hearts just wasn't quite enough. Sorry the run ended this way, but you did good trying to power through for the marathon.
Me gusta que haya buena onda en la comunidad de speedrunners, nadie se tira hate, al contrario, veo comentarios bien intencionados, no veo burlas ni nada acerca del jugador que se retiró del primer zelda, felicidades y excelentes jugadores :)
I am bad at choosing the winner when it comes to Zelda racers. This time I had peahat, then I couldn't tell if they had a mercy ruling or what cuz I didn't want to read the comments yet. So I needed sidewayz my back up team. The only time I could've chosen the winner was probably a lot of Andy's runs, however he's so good that I choose underdogs.
Always root for Pro_JN 😄 If my mind serves me correctly I think he’s undefeated in GDQ-races despite not being the world record holder in any of the categories he’s played during GDQ.
Ryan Pawelko those games are not very marathon safe. Just finishing one of those runs is a miracle, let alone all 3 games, and even more incredible to expect relay races between multiple teams. There’s about 300 different run killers between the 3 games, it’s not very likely.
@@DrBacon22 "Marathon Safe" seems to be going out the window with time for AGDQ though. We had both Super Metroid Impossible and a Link to the Past Crowd Control this year, plus 2p1c blindfolded Punchout . . . . Every year it seems like GDQ moves further away from being a speedrunning event and more of an exhibition of the awesome things communities have found to do with the games they love, which is part of why I love watching the runs. Randomizers, romhacks, and more are getting featured more prominently, and in doing so upping the entertainment factor for audiences that might not be as interested if it was *just* speedrunners (as impressive as their skills might be.) I think seeing Sonic 1/2/3/K would be really cool to see at one of the events, if not as a race then just as an exhibition. Other cool options: --A Spelunky race set up much like the hot seat SMM2 race this year --Wonder Boy relay --Disney Afternoon Relay (all the games in the Afternoon Collection) --Spyro Reignited Relay --Contra 1/2/3 Relay Race
I asked simpoldood about that, the world record holder who has put in thousands of attempts, he's never seen it happen either, and don't know what could have caused it but guesses it was something wrong with either the cart or the console.
There were some issues with the controller and there was a rule that the team could pass after a certain point. Since it is a marathon rather than a serious race it is more important that all three teams stayed in the game.
@@redtaileddolphin1875 I had some controller issues. When i got home, the rubber was wore down. I was gripping it too tight. Pressure does things, lol. Especially after the first death, it just spiraled down hill from there.
The game scrolls top to bottom or left to right. When you enter the dungeon at the bottom of the screen, then exit, you are technically exiting through the top. Since you cant exit a locked door, the door becomes unlocked. A weird glitch.
So the one team got a mulligan on Zelda 1? The runner was really good and it seemed like really bad luck. Was there some sort of hardware issue with his controller and they were allowed to start Zelda 2? It wasn't addressed at all.
Hello, lots of things went wrong, the first death was on me. I didnt' react to being gridded which happens in this game. My controller was giving me some issues during the run, a few inputs got ate. We moved on to Zelda 2 cause i could of been stuck there forever. We had a mercy rule that wasn't addressed. Had to keep the show rolling ya know :-)
@@cantaloupeme That really bites. Comisserations to you for that, the frustration was clear and I really felt for you. I usually pick a screen to follow and I picked yours, it was killing me when it went wonky. The run was amazing though, there's no shame in the last 1% going bad when 99% of it was amazing. Hope to see you again at another GDQ!

This was a treat to watch live. Shoutouts to Cantaloupeme in team Peahat, you did your damndest.
Man, team Peahat... That Zelda 1 ending was brutal. It was pretty heart wrenching to watch
Green Tunic and Blue Wizzrobes can be a death sentence for even the best Z1 players. x.x

that rough level 9 for cantaloupe, damn
All of these speedrunners have amazing gaming skills, but Pro_JN's skills just blow my mind. I have never seen a more skilled gamer play Zelda 2.
Simpoldood (or do00d as he goes by these days) has the world record, but yeah, JN is certainly one of the best.
this kind of thing is great way to spice up a familiar run more relay races please
These commentators are just having a great time, and it was fun to listen to.
All 3 teams did awesome in my opinion.
Good job teams.
That was an awesome run by great players! Pro_JN is such a legendary gamer and his "Death" sweater rocks!
Peahat dude got it rough 😬 like really rough
Finally! Great work everyone! We had a blast watching from the back couch!

22:57 for all 3 of 'em on level 6. BASS!
I'm glad to see the best runners here in this great channel!
Beautiful race, great runners!!
Great runs!!! So proud of RCDRONE.
"wait, wait, this game has nicknames for rooms?"
Great relay! 👍
"Are the puns going to win anyone over? It's Hylian likely..."
ಠ_ಠ
Love it! :-D
My favorite part of any GDQ race is the couch desperately trying to convince you that the race is far from over.
THE REDEMPTION
Great run by great runners. Thanks for this :)
Ha! The hyperlink pun was well done!
man these puns are awesome
Moments like this... great memories, great run... that's a thumbs up from me, your good buddy Cactus! 👍🏿👍🏿👍🏿

32 minutes into a 3 hour long video, and 2 games left. Stuffs going to go down, isn't it?
Love team relays
Sucks what happened to the Zelda 1 dude in the top-right. Definitely a broken controller.
If they had 3 players for Link's Awakening, they could have added that in as well
ok
What happened to the Magic Container in Magic cave on team Peahats side ? Ive never seen that before..
We still don't know what happened.
I asked simpoldood about that, the world record holder who has put in thousands of attempts, he's never seen it happen either, and don't know what could have caused it but guesses it was something wrong with either the cart or the console.
Corrupted savefile most likely, but exactly how the savefile gets corrupted in that specific way is anyones guess...
Ha ha ha! Return of Ganon!
Anybody notice the first magic container didn't load for Team Peahat?
What was happening with Team Peahat during Zelda 1? System issue?

Why does that first door in level one that is locked becomes unlocked? A coding glitch?
The game scrolls top to bottom or left to right. When you enter the dungeon at the bottom of the screen, then exit, you are technically exiting through the top. Since you cant exit a locked door, the door becomes unlocked. A weird glitch.
It is a well known glitch with level 1. If you enter, then exit, then re-enter, the door becomes unlocked.

Hello
