I spent about four family holidays in the caravan site on the opposite bank of the river just over fifty years ago before the road improvement and was always fascinated by the abandoned trackbed, last time I visited was about 35 years ago when there was just a museum and the plans to reopen the railway seemed a long way off. I now live in France but will have to consider a visit when this COVID crisis dies down.

Yes, all the drawings and structural calculations have been done for a while now, we've mainly been waiting for a local source of fill to build the embankment at a reasonable price, which came up recently and we jumped on it, leading to the work you now see going on.

So does the deviation rejoin the old route? Or has it got to recreated all the way down with a new embankment?
It will rejoin the old route, the deviation is only needed because of the road widening that took place which encroached onto the old trackbed.
