  • Video of Houston Derecho captured from my tower cam in the Heights area of Houston Texas May 16, 2024. At 3:00 into the video (6:23:04 timestamp on the video) the first of many power flashes is seen on the horizon, then at 4:45 (6:24:44 timestamp on the video) there are three very large power flashes and the violent wind and rain start to move in. Day turns into night within a minute as the worst of the storm moves through.
Unfortunately, when the power started flashing, the weather data that is displayed on the screen froze and my UPS only recorded about six minutes of video after power went out. Looking back, the wind reached 65 mph before being knocked off line.
My neighborhood didn't have power for the next five days after this storm. My anemometer is still not working and the tower that the cam and weather equipment is mounted on is leaning due to the force of the wind.
    Thanks for watching!

4:19 that idiot doing a California roll stop, ignoring the sign that reads “cross traffic does not stop” almost hitting that SUV
Some people should not be driving.

I couldn't agree more. That intersection is notorious for people not stopping or like you said, roll stopping then proceeding as if the cross traffic has a stop sign even though it clearly states "cross traffic does not stop". I've seen so many accidents there.

The data transfer from my weather station to my live stream cut out after the first power outage, so the last reading that is on the screen is only the first part of the storm. When I looked back at the data from my anemometer, the last reading was 68 mph before losing my UPS that powers everything when the power fails. Unfortunately it only recorded about seven minutes after I lost power to my house. This tells me I need a bigger UPS. Lol

The wind speed never showed going over 21 mph - that's not a Derecho, that's a thunderstorm. A Derecho MUST have: gusts of at least 58 mph, damage extending 400 miles, and must be at least 60 miles wide.
