I was doing some loaded development for my .223 recently, using all manor or Hornady, Nosler, Sierra, etc bullets to work up loads. But, the most accurate load I found was a 62 grain V2 from Everglades ammo loaded with 21 grains of 3031 at mag length. It was shooting consistently sub MOA, my best group was .762 MOA, and this was a 5 shot group. That was with a PSA upper, bipod and rear bag in a 15-20 mph gusting crosswind. It was kind of by accident as I loaded these for plinking, but decided to shoot some groups and they outperformed 69 SMKs, 75 Hornady BTHPs, and Nosler 77gr custom comp. Note, I am still working up loads for these with Varget, CFE223, 3031, and IMR 4895.
Richard, what was your case length overall for the 24.5gr Varget load? And what twist rate was your barrel? I'm trying to work up a 62gr bullet + Varget load for a 1/7 twist 16" barrel. Thanks for sharing your conscientious methodology.
I do not have a bullet comparator yet, so I checked my barrel by pressing a long seated bullet into the lands. Did this three times, I got 2.75"-ish average. (I don't have the notes with me.) I loaded for 2.250", just on the long edge of the cannelure. My barrel is a Ballistic Advantage, Hanson profile Wylde barrel with 8" twist.
Thanks for the video
