Nice review! I have also found you can use it to gently scratch an itchy finger, use it as a template to draw a small hoof, lift an earing from the table all the way up to the shirt pocket, defend yourself against a wagtail attack, and even frequently open and closing the tool for adhd disorders.

I don't know why but my favorite tool on a SAK is the hook. I rarely use it but the fact that it is rated for 200lbs is awesone and just appeals to me. It is one of the necessary tools for me on all of my SAKs

It's funny when people claim Any tool on a SAK is useless.. as if they added it on accident. The hook & wire stripper get the most hate. And they are both very useful. Outsmart the tool, to your advantage. Don't let the tool outsmart you, leaving you puzzled to It's existence. Great video!

If you need to remove the plastic hubcap from the wheel with the hook you can reach the wire frame beside the valve. Then you have a good grab. Great video, thank you.

This is my favorite tool. All the other ones have a more direct approach. With the multipurpose hook you have to figure it out on your own and once you start using it, you become obsesed with finding new uses.
I've found the hook to be one of the more useful tools on my SAK. I use mine mostly for safety wire wrapping/tying. The one for pulling the tonneau cover to the snap is a great idea. I'm always fighting that thing.
@@TheOCDHunter also you can use it as cellphone stand along with a Pen. Have the SAK stand Upwards with the Hook as a Leg, and the Can Opener opened halfway, Place the Phone on its side, place it on the half opened Can opener and place the pen on the other end of the phone to balanced it. You will have a makeshift Phone stand to watch videos
Honestly if you really think about a hook is a tool that many people don’t have or know how to integrate into their daily lives. This video has been a real eye opener.
I will be keeping my Victorinox Super Tinker next to my Air fryer. I have 2 and 1 is 1 of my many EDC. I can't believe it can tighten Bicycle spokes. I only have been using it for a T shank jigsaw blade. Mind blowing with what everyone figures out how to use a tool.
Some of these “uses” seem like you reached for them. Like open a box? Really lol but my favorite is when you use your finger to lift the soup tab to stick the hook under👌🏼
Actually, there are so many times when I want to open the box without damaging it, in case I need to return the item. Jamming my big sausage finger in there usually ends up tearing the lid. I usually use a butter knife, but the hook would be way better.
Mine too. I don't have a trampoline, but on occasion I have to remove springs on garage pull-down stairs and putting them back is difficult. This should help immensely!
When I bought mine back in the late 60's, I was told that the hook was made as a gut hook for ducks and geese! Folks that can't find a use for it, ain't never done any work 🙄👍✝️🇱🇷
Good video, most of my hooks on my SAKs are so stiff they will practically rip my fingernail off. I use the corkscrew from another SAK to lift them out :)
@@Scleavers after my post, I did just that. I use mineral oil I had on hand and works perfectly, plus the rest of knife is food safe if I need to use the blades.
3 years late, but here because I saw the hook being used on a saxophone ligature in the thumbnail. Just a heads up, ligature screws only need to be finger tight.
I just subscribed to your channel today. Thank you for posting this video. I just got a new SAK with the hook on it, and I have been wondering what it is good for. Lots of things I guess. I haven't had a SAK since my scouting days in the late 80's to early 90's. I wanted something for EDC that was a little less bulky than my Leatherman Wave or Sidekick.

I found some genuinely good uses for the hook that even Felix Immler hadn't thought of. Some others were a little silly but fun nonetheless. This is a fantastic video! The parcel hook is incredibly useful and was one of the main features I looked for in choosing a SAK. I bought the super tinker for the hook, #2 phillips and scissors. I wanted those 3 items on my EDC.

spring puller and Instant Pot wire rack lifter----- yes!! spoke wrench? NO. the most plausible thing I can come up with for the hook, after playing with one for a while, is an aid for some types of fine work if you have an injured or broken thumb in a survival situation. This would not be a primary tool in any non-emergency situation... but like anything else, practice and problem solving in everyday situations makes those emergencies a little bit less difficult. Good video.

Yet there always comes a time that the slightly differently tool does the job, but other similar tools cannot. The point here is to think outside the box, be aware of what you have. Every curve and point on a tool can be a benefit to a situation and worse in others. So this hook is there, it's certainly different than other bits. And that's a good thing. Just gotta think. To me, half of the victorinox usage is fun, half of it is for emergency.

Its not that the hook cant be used for things, its just that it feels like you have to go out of your way to use it over other tools or just your hands alot of the time. Eye bolts is a very good use for it though
I sharpened the inner edges on mine to use on my ferro rod instead of using the saw blade which I've cut myself on too many times because I'm a big dummy

When you Drop a Key with a Keyring in the Street Drain, you can tie a Rope and Hook the key with the SAK Hook

I used the hook today to put the rubber dust cap back on my riding mower. It was the perfect tool for the job.
Btw: “pulling the spring into place”, was my favourite.

Tie a Prusik knot with Paracord around your climbing line and use the hook to pull yourself up with the Prusik loop.
Also you can hold the little pen of your SAK in the Hook's slot. The close the Hook and you use your SAK as a pen holder.

Seems like a small cleaning and oiling is in order. See if you can get the victorinox oil, but I guess any other brand oil might do the trick.

I use it to hook and pull back my crossbow string. knife acts like an excellent handle while the hook holds on to the string.

I close the hook on a para cord lanyard hooked to my belt loop. Then the tool is in my pocket but is supported by the belt.

I sharpened the inner edges on mine to use on my ferro rod instead of using the saw blade which I've cut myself on too many times because I'm a big dummy
You can use the spine of the saw or the corner of the file for a ferro rod if you have those tools on your Swiss Army Knife.
Now I want one.

Can you use it to crochet? Seriously, I wonder. Also, isn’t it too small for most tent pegs, but that’s the one I really hope works.
Why don't you try that out, crochet, I bet it works with paracord.
Also people suffrering from arthritis in their hands the hook makes it easier to pull up zip fasteners on cardigans , slippers , skirts etc .

If they have trouble with pulling a zipper, I doubt they're going to find it any easier to open a Swiss army knifes tools

Great video and it definitely showed me things I never thought of. However, for the picture hanging wire, I was a little disappointed when you went for the drill to add the screws. 🤣
Hahaha. Good point on the drill. I was trying to just think out of the box for ideas on the hook. I should of used the hook to pull the drill’s trigger!!! 😉.
