    Oh that's tough. Well, you got respect for showing the mistakes I'm sure. Really helpful, thank you.

      It's not a failure unless you quit trying. I learned several ways NOT to carve melamine. Thank you very much.

    Thanks for sharing ! I too learn from my mistakes. Sometimes trial and error is the only way.

      Yes, you are correct. I to experiments all the time. I think I may post more experiments. Both success and failures.

    Oh no! Thank you for sharing....great to see all of the steps and pilot projects instead of a curated product

    I think your first board was moving a little bit during the entire carve. Would explained the odd shapes of the letters and stars.

    Informative as always. Thanks for showing a not-so-successful carve - now I know I’m not the only one!

    With the star, looks like the damage was caused by the 1/8" bit, stars are better with just the plain V bit cut that gives a defined V channel centralised in each star.
    Would some large penny washers secure your cosmos/stops better?

      That just shows how much pressure is put on the project. Thank you

    Thank you it happens to everyone! Have you done any cnc carving for 3d with round nose bits or tapered ball bits? That is my next challenge!

      You're welcome. No, I have not done any 3d carving yet. That's on my list for this year. Thank you very much.

    🤣😂 The sign said, "If you're not stopping this disaster, I'm leaving!" The best part about the entire project was the part that sucked! 😂
    Ok...but seriously, am I correct in assuming the issue was the depth of the carving? I'm just guessing. I don't know why I'm here. I don't even have that machine! But in case I do get one, I'll know what I'm supposed to do (or in this case...I'll know what I'm not supposed to do) 🤣

      The real problem was that the particle board under the melamine was not stable enough and broke off taking the melamine with it. The other problem was that the clamps did not hold primarily due to the angle of the clamp itself.

    nive video,paw paw...we all have disasters like that..experimenting is how we all learn.... .particle board doesnt always machine sharp and clean ive tried carving particle board laminated shelve material and it wasnt very good...Have you tried carving polycarbonate.? it carves great and looks great when done....

    Stupid question:. If I wanted to achieve the same results freehand and "old school" without the high tech space-hogging equipment, would that be possible? What tool could I use? I'm thinking a drill or dremmel, but they seem too unstable (I can't hold a drill like a pencil without the need for a good left-handed wall scrubbing after...while waiting for paramedics to arrive).

      flxmkr you could try an engraving tool.

    • @PawPawsWorkShop
      @PawPawsWorkShop  4 роки тому +1

      An engraver might get the detail that you would want. The problem is being able to hold steady to get good results.

      Paw Paw’s WorkShop yeah, I have an engraver. Either it’s a bad quality engraver, or I don’t know how to use it. Ah well. Back to the drawing board where I’ll just draw. 🙂

    I wonder if you did the eagle detail with a 20° v bit, if it would come out ok.

    • @PawPawsWorkShop
      @PawPawsWorkShop  Рік тому

      Yes, it would most likely look great. Shallow carve should work well. Thanks

    What was the cost of your setup. I am looking to get a machine myself ?

      Go to inventables.com and you can price your CNC with different options which will affect the price. Shop around, there are more options today than when I purchased mine. I'll help answer any questions that I can to help you get started.

    it looks like the real problem was the mdf substrate.I don't like to use mdf in my cnc work.

    Would u upload this project on the inventables

    • @PawPawsWorkShop
      @PawPawsWorkShop  4 роки тому +1

      I can not upload it yet to inventables. The file is too large and causing problems. The folks at inventables are working to solve the issue with easel.

    Please frame your work a bit higher in the camera. I want to leave the banners so you get your $ but it blocks some of the stuff you are trying to show us.
    Thanks
    Have a great day.
