- Many Spaniards perceive the Catholic Church as old-fashioned. A priest in Madrid is trying to change that by leading a modern, inclusive congregation ready to receive anyone 24 hours a day.
This documentary visits Father Ángel García Rodríguez, the priest at San Antón's, which is likely one of Spain's most unusual houses of prayer. Open 24 hours a day, the church in Madrid is furnished with comfortable chairs instead of hardwood pews. Free Wi-Fi is available, along with breakfast and lunch for the needy, and there are live sports on TV in the nave. Father Ángel has made San Antón's a place of community for the whole community. The 81-year old's parish has caught the attention of the moral martinets in the Catholic hierarchy. The church doors are open to gays. Same-sex couples often ask Father García for his blessing, which he grants, even though it is inconsistent with Catholic teachings. In addition to his work as a priest, Father Ángel has also established an organization that cares for the socially disadvantaged. It is controversial. Critics say the priest's social projects are profit-oriented and relieve the Spanish state of its obligations to the poor.

I have to respectfully disagree although I don’t like he revamped it but in our religion we need to help each other and the Catholic Church is known for charity work we need to help people and they worship god in there
There are some things I like about this. For sure most of the instincts that started this are beautiful but the Church isn’t just some social work organization. It’s main priority is to lead souls to heaven.
I'm atheist, but seems to me that those who criticize the priest do nothinhg to help this people in need...

"The crisis"? Which crisis are they talking about in the video? If you said this word in 2019, it meant the 2008 crisis. Now it might mean the 2020 one, after Corona. I would specify. It's not even sure when the video was recorded. They say winter is coming. They uploaded it in May 2020.

The Church's mission is to evangelize to all people, and as people change, the way we evangelize can take different forms. That being said the dogmas and official teachings of the Church can never change.

Everything is free, they just have to pay with unconditional obedience, they work for the catholic church now. Free things, free workforce.
Charity is needed but it should be unconditional and without proselytism. Charity with conditions is not real charity. It will be more beneficial to provide honest and well paid work for everyone this way citizens could reach the liberties that democracies need to prosper.
As well some people find themselves in need for not being compliant with catholic societies, by not being able to find a job or nice work environment, in that sense catholicity might be creating a problem and profiting from it.
People are scared of religious institutions because they know they will be manipulated and harassed by an organization that will try to force them for their agendas and it feels totalitarian. And lets just remember how much suffering this creates among people, suffering and anger should not be fomented by any society, it is counterproductive. Happy people make a society work better.

Sorry, no matter what anyone says or how many houseless/jobless people the church "helps", all I can say or think is get as far away as possible. I was raised (initially) by my father (and my mother) who was a DEVOUT Catholic. As any religion goes, it's all about indoctrination from birth, so technically speaking, it wasn't my father's fault (necessarily speaking) that he was so obsessed with making sure that we got up at 4:00 am when we were on a camping trip out in the middle of the Southwest deserts while on one of our father's many photoshoots. He often combined his business with taking the family on these amazing camping trips out into the middle of nowhere, but, being the brainwashed Catholic that he was, he'd make us get up in the middle of the night so that he could drive us 80 miles over four-wheel-drive roads (because, as I said, he would take us literally into the boonies for his photoshoots and because he wanted to get as far away from other people as well as get as deep into the wilderness as possible) to get us to church on time, even to a strange church in a strange town surrounded by strangers.
Our mother (I have one older brother and three younger sisters) generally wasn't very fond of the idea let alone the actual act of having to get up before "god?" just to drive down some crazy dangerous four-wheel-drive road in the dark just to go see "god?" and tell "him?" all about the terrible things we did last week like picking our noses, contemplating our navels, cursing some person who was cursing us and other horrible, HORRIBLE, and TERRIBLE things that we humans do. Then, our dad died and although we loved him immensely, there was this wonderful release from having to attend Catechism and church anymore. Life got a LOT better after that. And we stopped attending that silly religion. There's nothing more freeing than just being free to think and do for oneself without being judged by religious fanatics. Religious "leaders?" have no more of or have a "better" a connection to Source than anyone else, and giving individuals that power takes your own power away from yourselves. Why would anyone in their right mind consciously allow that to happen to themselves? I guess people who allow themselves to live in fear of what they perceive to be the unknown is the answer to that question.
Don't worry, after you die, you're going to be alright. That's all you need to know and believe.

1. WHAT IS THE PURPOSE OF GOVERNMENT?
2. WHAT IS CHRISTIANITY REALLY ALL ABOUT?

father technically refers to your dad. The father in heaven refers to Jesus's dad. Priests are called father because they are seen as a father figure in the community. Simple as that
