Battle of Naga Sadhus

The Naga Sadhus are a unique and brave group of sadhus in India known for smearing ash on their faces. They practice extreme forms of Yoga to attain moksha or salvation. Nagas are only present during the Kumbh Mela festival, which occurs once every 12 years. After the festival, they retreat into the deep forests and upper Himalayas until the next Kumbh Mela.
The Naga Sadhu clan was established by Adi Shankaracharya in the 8th century AD, as he foresaw the increasing attacks on Indian temples, wealth, and culture in the next 1000-1500 years. He believed that a military and wild group of Sadhus were necessary to combat these cruel attacks, leading to the formation of the Naga Sadhus.
Historically, the prowess of the Aghoris and Nagas was first recorded in the Battle of Gokul in 1757. The invading forces from Afghanistan led by Ahmed Shah Abdali, with his 30,000-strong army, attacked Vrindavan and Mathura in a quest for wealth and religious supremacy. Despite the defence efforts of 10,000 Hindu soldiers led by Prince Jawahar Singh, they could not withstand the invaders. Many pious women jumped into the Yamuna River to escape mass rapes and executions.
After destroying Vrindavan, the Afghan army turned towards Gokul, where they encountered almost 3000 naked Naga Sadhus with swords and Trishuls. Commander Sardar Khan and his 30,000 soldiers laughed off the Nagas, believing them to be an easy target. However, the Nagas proved them wrong and defeated the Afghan army of 30,000 soldiers within hours.
The Naga Sadhus saved the holy city of Gokul from the Afghan forces, and their battle cry of “Har Har Mahadev” rattled the enemy. The invaders never dared to attack the holy city of Gokul again. #harharmahadevॐ

Naga Sadhus are still taking care of temples in some areas of India. There is incredible history of Naga Sadhus who even fought against invaders protecting temples in Gujarat

Sir, are you sure NAGA SADHUS were founded by Adi Shankaracharya.
I think they were much before 8th century.

I’m not not sure of this, but I think Adi Shankaracharya established the “clans” of Naga sadhus, like he inducted a combat training system. Maybe before Adi Shankaracharya Naga Sadhus were fragmented. And he organised them of sorts because he saw what was coming

Its very sad that nihang sikhs are presented to be extraordinary warriors and very valorous however, the valor and martial prowess of the great Naga sadhus is hardly known. Genuine Naga sadhus are a force to be reckond with in any battle!
