- The farm bought an old International 1086 as a winter project and its in pretty rough shape. Come along with us as we split and tear it down to figure out what's wrong with it. This will be a several part series and is not a how to series.

Oh man, that's going to be a very irritating sequence of errors when you put it all back together. The plate wouldn't come off because the woodruff key on the reverse shifting arm was catching and the parking brake needs to be pried up and something pinned underneath it to keep the brake disengaged. You'll find it nearly impossible to get the reverse shaft back down into the location without also approaching it from the side. I haven't watched any of your other videos to see what the original problem was, but the spring that popped out of your shifting lever box was just a spring to keep the stick centered; it's not the cause of any problems other than a flappy lever. There is an arm over a series of detentes that the lever arm moves you through that tends to lock up - happened to mine. While you have the top cover plate off though - I'd just go ahead and replace the detentes in there as well to get some value out of the unimaginable headache you have coming. IH Delight has some videos on 86 series tractors and has one on replacing the detentes.
@@HalfAssedRanching Thanks for the info we are planning on replacing a bunch of stuff while we have it apart. Our local dealer told us that they have a tool that we can borrow that helps it go back together somewhat easy. We found out that it was the TA that's messed up that's coming up in the next video.
