The guy did it all - with no formal schooling (he grew up in vaudeville in the depths of The Depression and never went to one day of school) - with one eye, after the 1954 auto accident traveling between Las Vegas and LA gigs - and, having to constantly negotiate and overcome the limitations placed on him most of his life by Jim Crow/Mob laws and restrictions. When you measure his accomplishments from starting point to finish and add in the obstacles overcome, all of them...Sam really has few peers in the human drama.
Aside from being very talented, smart, funny & very well mannered to boot, Sammy was 1 cool cat! No wonder he, Frank, Dean, Peter & the others all hung out together.
I enjoyed watching this and this was way before my time. Rosemary was so stressed on that last one ha ha, and I loved Sammy's look when his partner screamed.
One other thing: it's clear to see Allen Ludden didnt have a racist bone in his body - all contestants, and celebrities - were welcome and treated with respect on his show, regardless of their race. That's a hallmark of good character and also makes for good television.
Rob Bernath He was a real gentleman during the show’s run. I admired those qualities about him, too. Allen Ludden seemed to treat everyone the same. I remember during a Lena Horne appearance how he said to her “God bless you.” It was during the time of her mixed marriage and the oppression she encountered during her civil rights work. His casual approach and genuine excitement made these episodes enjoyable - and his loss irreplaceable.
Allen Ludden hosted a short-lived talk show in 1969, "Allen Ludden's Gallery," and he hired H.B. Barnum, a well-known black arranger, to be his bandleader. Ludden at the time told the press that he didn't hire Barnum to have a "token Negro," but because he thought Barnum was a great man and musician.
19:00 - 19:20, that has to be - hands down - one of the *funniest* exchanges on the original run of this show. Rosemary Clooney looked like she had just given birth to George after the contestant finally gave the right answer. A counterpart would be one of the episode featuring Peter Lawford where a light bulb broke offstage. Lawford quipped that was Dr. Reisen A. Goodwin shooting himself. 😁😅
In context (since he had just said, "I can't wait to get [i.e. buy] it"), it's pretty clear he just meant "I wasn't expecting a freebie" rather than "I'm not actually interested in your album." This may actually been a sign of respect to her as a performing artist (valuing her work enough to pay for it like anyone else).
6:32 Rosie correctly guesses "business" from a potential misleading clue "monkey." Allen then chirps, "I didn't think you were gonna make it on that clue....Rosie you got that kind of mind, I suppose." Oops. lol
For "Pressure" I was thinking of "Under" earlier on… Once that didn't work, maybe "… Cooker…" (Said in a way denoting the second word in a phrase, etc.)
For "Banish" the 1st clue I thought of was "Outcast" (although that's usually used as a noun and not a verb) but my 2nd idea could've worked certainly as a 2nd or 3rd clue which is a synonym: "Oust"
It almost goes without saying, obviously, after the contestant didn't guess "Young" with the clue "Old" if Sammy had simply said "opposite!" That would have cinched it (methinks :-)
I just love - and respect Sammy so much!

Me, too! What class and personality! I so wish he was still around😒
I had forgotten about his eye! He sure was one of a kind! The very best human being!!

Sammy Davis, Jr showed real respect for the female contestants that he played with when he stood up and shook their hands when those women left.

Allen Ludden just seemed an all-round decent and genuine man . Betty White was evidently a good judge of character.
What was it you were thinking he was gonna do?
@@lynnturman8157 you missed the point entirely - please re-read my OP and the other replies to get the correct sentiment.

She couldn't have given birth to George...she was a paternal aunt.
@@lisahayes8834 hence the joke - sheesh
This was a good game! Love it!
Sammy Davis Jr was a great player my favorites show is with Janet Leigh and Peter Lawford that one the funniest show.
Peter lawford was so good in this show
Love Sammy!
Rosemary offered a copy of her album and Allen Ludden said "I didn't ask for that!" 😂
IKR!! Fool.

Sammy and Rosemary both played the game extremely well
Great vintage game show.

The battle rages on...
I didn't think anyone would get 'banish.' Rosemary Clooney is my hero! She was terrific !!!
I like Sammy playing with Peter Lawford. They had a good time, rosemary was to serious acting.
This was so much fun! Refreshing to see an Asian on 1960s television.
refreshing of you to take note, as well. Exceptional.
Very good

I would say "Exile" for "Banish."
@@519djw6 Good one :-)
For "Pressure" I'm thinking either "Sqqqqqqueeezing!" Or, "Tireeeeeee..."
How about "Blood"?

MR. ENTERTAINMENT and ROSEMARY CLOONEY.
I wonder if Mr. Lee told his kids about spending his honeymoon with Rosemary Clooney?
Good program.....Good work Sam

I'm thinking for "Weather" I might have tried "Inclement…" Said in that Password-ian way indicating another word to follow….
I think rosemary got banish cause the woman almost said it . 😄
why does Alan keep saying 'you're in scoring position' when it's less then 10 points for a win? 0-0 is scoring position; 17-8 is in winning position.
Alan Luden, the love of Betty White's Life
And visaversa!
@Deneen. His name was Allen Ludden. You misspelled both his first name and his last name. That was very careless for you to do that.
@@janeiwasduncan8463 "vice versa" are two words- not one word plus you misspelled "vice."
@@lynettepalecek3141 You are, in the parlance of the era of this game show, a "pill".

I like Sammy, but in the lightening round, Allen no SOONER said "one word" when he CONTINUED using two (or three or four; whatever it was)
I knw this is old but I observe rosemary just laugh whn c won. C was very formal whn c did not win
At 19:10 Rosemary Clooney was clearly… Under pressure (sorry :-)
Is it Rosemary Clooney third partner from Korea
Who cares?
wish Alan would quit talking about his little man. That should be kept private. Or in the company of Betty.
YOU ARE JOKING, OF COURSE???? (or are you just always filthy-minded)?
(as if talking about the little man that gives him the words was bad LOL)
They did cheat at times when they made movements with their head
So much cheating. The dog clue especially. Lol.
The captain did cheat on dog leash. He moved his neck up .
"What does your husband do?"
